Chapter 206: Sorry to Disappoint Everyone

“You have done very well.”

The Mission Hall Master nodded approvingly, his gaze warm as he looked at Qi Yuan.

“The Sect Leader decreed that any disciple who solves a puzzle will be instantly rewarded with 100,000 contribution points. In a few days, additional pills and treasures will be bestowed upon you.”

As the organizer of this event, seeing a puzzle solved was a feather in his cap. He was delighted.

Qi Yuan stepped forward, bowing deeply with practiced humility.

“Thank you for the Sect’s cultivation. This disciple, Big Qi, is endlessly grateful.”

The surrounding demonic cultivators watched with green eyes. 100,000 contribution points! Just for sticking out two fingers!

If I had known it was just Rock-Paper-Scissors, I could have done it too!

In the Nether Fiend Sect, contribution points were harder currency than Spirit Stones. One point equaled one High Grade Spirit Stone, but unlike stones, points couldn’t be robbed. Carrying 100,000 stones was a death sentence; carrying points was safe.

Ji Chan’er beamed with pride. Her gamble to bring Qi Yuan had paid off. The reward was secondary; the real prize was the Sect Leader’s attention. With this achievement, Qi Yuan’s path to becoming a Holy Son was clearer than ever.

Meanwhile, Shen Xingxuan looked like she had swallowed a live toad. Her face flushed crimson with indignation.

What kind of dog-shit luck does this bastard have? He actually guessed it!

She glared at him. If hate could kill, Qi Yuan would be dust.

“Junior Nephew Qi,” the Hall Master said, pointing to the remaining stone tablet. “Do you have any confidence in solving the final puzzle?”

The hall fell silent. All eyes locked onto Qi Yuan.

Nobody knew he had solved the first puzzle (the chess game) except for the Ji family elites. If they did, their expectations would be sky-high. Even so, after his “genius” solution to the statue, everyone wondered if this strange disciple could perform another miracle.

Under their intense gaze, Qi Yuan didn’t decline. He walked up to the stone tablet and pretended to study it deeply, frowning in concentration.

After a long silence, he sighed heavily, shaking his head.

“I caught a fleeting glimpse of inspiration… but I cannot decipher the content. I am sorry to disappoint everyone.”

In truth, the elementary math problems were an insult to his intelligence. He could solve them in his sleep.

But could and should were two different things.

Qi Yuan wasn’t an idiot. He knew his place. He was a lowly Outer Sect disciple. If he solved the final puzzle now, the sect would take the key, open the ruin, and loot everything. Would those greedy old monsters leave any soup for him? Dream on.

The Demon Sect operated on the law of the jungle. Without strength and status, you were just a tool. If he opened the door now, he was making a wedding dress for others.

Better to wait. I’m the only one in this world who can read these symbols. The legacy isn’t going anywhere.

Seeing him admit defeat, the Hall Master sighed, disappointed but understanding.

“It is fine. Catching even a glimpse of inspiration is remarkable. The Shen Family studied this for ten thousand years without a clue.”

“Indeed,” a bystander muttered. “The statue had a logic to it, but these symbols are gibberish. How can anyone solve this?”

“Maybe the Ruin Master never intended for anyone to inherit it. It’s an unsolvable prank.”

The crowd dispersed, their interest waning. Miracles didn’t happen twice.

Before Qi Yuan left, the Hall Master handed him a jade slip.

“Junior Nephew Qi, this contains a rubbing of the tablet. Study it in your spare time. Perhaps you will have an epiphany later.”

“Thank you, Hall Master. I will do my best.”

Qi Yuan accepted it respectfully.

Moments later, he and Ji Chan’er slipped away. Once they were alone in a secluded spot, Ji Chan’er let out a breath she had been holding.

Her expression turned grave as she transmitted her voice to him.

“Big Qi. Listen to me. Solving the second puzzle was enough.”

“If you ever find the answer to the third one… do not report it lightly. This matter is too big. Opening that ruin without the strength to defend yourself is suicide.”

“If you want a share of that Fated Chance, you must wait until you are at least a Legacy Disciple!”

Hearing the genuine concern in her voice, Qi Yuan felt a warm fuzziness in his chest.

“Rest assured, Fairy Ji. I know what I’m doing.”
