Chapter 198: Fairy Ji, Rest Assured, I Promise Not to Cause Trouble
Realizing she had absolutely no way to deal with the man in front of her, Shen Xingxuan finally broke.
She was born noble, raised as the jewel of her clan, and treated with reverence by everyone she met. When had she ever suffered such a humiliating defeat?
All the grievances she had endured in her entire life combined didn’t equal what she had faced in the last hour.
“You bastard! You’re too much! Waaaaah—”
The more she thought about it, the more wronged she felt. Her composure shattered, and she burst into loud, ugly tears, sobbing like a child who had scraped her knee.
“Huh?”
Qi Yuan jumped back, startled.
Good heavens!
Wasn’t this Golden Persian Cat supposed to be a cold-blooded killer? Why is her heart made of glass? I just said a few words!
Besides, I didn’t actually hurt her. I just took a few sets of… artistic photos. Is this really worth crying over?
If the mob from earlier saw this scene, they would assume the worst. He wouldn’t be able to wash his name clean even if he jumped into the Yellow River.
Qi Yuan felt a migraine coming on. Just as he stepped forward to comfort her, a streak of rainbow light descended from the sky, landing in the courtyard.
The newcomer was a breathtaking beauty in a shimmering dress, her radiance rivaling the sun. It was Ji Chan’er, who had rushed over upon hearing the news.
She took one look at Shen Xingxuan—who was crying her eyes out—and froze. She turned to Qi Yuan, her face full of question marks.
What did this guy do? How did he reduce a snake-hearted little demoness to a puddle of tears?
Damn it, Qi Yuan thought. This girl is trying to get me killed!
Realizing the danger of a misunderstanding, Qi Yuan rubbed his hands awkwardly and pleaded, “Fairy Ji! Listen to me! I swear I didn’t do anything! I have no idea why Senior Sister Shen is crying. Maybe she remembered a sad childhood memory?”
If his “backyard caught fire” because of this, he would be more wronged than Dou E.
Ji Chan’er snorted, eyeing him suspiciously. “Didn’t do anything? Then why is she crying like a wet cat?”
Hearing Ji Chan’er’s voice, Shen Xingxuan’s crying stopped abruptly. She furiously wiped her eyes and glared at her rival with wet, red-rimmed eyes.
“Surname Ji! What I do is my business! It has nothing to do with you! Stop meddling!”
Facing a competitor, she couldn’t show weakness. She had to defend her dignity, even if her eyes were puffy.
“Oh? Quite fierce, aren’t we?”
Ji Chan’er smirked playfully. “I heard you were kidnapped by an Outer Sect disciple, so I, your Big Sister, rushed over to save you. And this is the thanks I get? Tsk tsk tsk…”
Shen Xingxuan flushed with embarrassment and anger.
“Shut up! Stop spouting nonsense! I was never kidnapped! Those are just rumors!”
Though she talked tough, she knew that with Ji Chan’er here, retrieving the Recording Talisman was impossible. Staying longer would only risk exposing her secret.
She glared venomously at the pair, then transformed into a cloud of rosy mist and shot into the sky. Her voice echoed in Qi Yuan’s ear via transmission:
“Surname Qi! Remember your promise! Or I will never let you off!”
Once she was gone, Ji Chan’er turned her gaze back to Qi Yuan, looking him up and down like he was a rare specimen.
“Next time you plan to do something big, warn me first. When I heard you kidnapped Shen Xingxuan, I nearly had a heart attack.
“Spill it. What actually happened?”
Qi Yuan sighed, smiling bitterly. “Fairy Ji, this really wasn’t my fault.”
“It started with Elder Geng’s murder…”
He recounted the entire story honestly—well, mostly honestly. He omitted the minor details about the photo session. No need to tarnish his glorious image in front of his Dao Companion.
“So…” Ji Chan’er stared, her mouth slightly open. “You really kidnapped that little demoness?”
“Shen Xingxuan is the Shen Clan Leader’s favorite daughter, the Sect Leader’s niece, and her only disciple. You captured her… and somehow managed to walk away unscathed? That’s… incredible.”
She was used to Qi Yuan’s audacity, but this? This wasn’t walking on a knife’s edge; this was breakdancing on it.
Qi Yuan laughed humbly. “You flatter me. I was terrified. If that girl wasn’t so obsessed with saving face, I would have had to flee the continent.”
Ji Chan’er shook her head helplessly.
“I thought you could live a quiet life in the Outer Sect. I was wrong. Is there anything you don’t dare to do?”
Her expression turned serious.
“You aren’t safe yet. Given that little demoness’s personality, she won’t let this go. She swore an oath not to harm you personally, but she can easily use others to do her dirty work. You can’t stay here.”
Her worry was valid. She knew the women of the Demon Sect better than anyone. They were vengeful creatures.
Qi Yuan shrugged. “It’s fine. I’ve offended plenty of people. One more won’t matter.”
He still held the “Golden Cat’s” blackmail material. Unless she was insane, she wouldn’t move against him soon. And once his mission was done, “Big Qi” would vanish, and Qi Yuan would return to the righteous path. Let her try to find him then.
Ji Chan’er rolled her eyes at his nonchalance.
“Stop acting tough. Pack your things. You’re moving into my cave in the Inner Sect for a while. I won’t have you dying on my watch.”
She pointed a finger at him. “But I’m warning you: the Inner Sect isn’t a place where you can run wild. Do not cause trouble for me.”
Qi Yuan’s eyes lit up. He nodded so fast his head blurred.
“Fairy Ji, rest assured! I promise not to cause a single bit of trouble!”
Move in with the Demoness? Rejecting such an offer would be a crime against humanity.
