Chapter 149: The Final Truth
The diary entries ended, but a loose letter fell from the pages.
Chen Ye and Chu Che stared at it. The previous revelations—that the Death God was a reanimated corpse, fed on human flesh to produce the miraculous Blood Tears—had already turned their stomachs.
But the letter promised more.
It was addressed to “Stranger.”
“If you are reading this, we are probably dead.”
“I am writing this to warn you. Run. Run far away. Wu Jianshan is a demon.”
“I will never forget that day: November 7th, 2030.”
“Our convoy had 32 people. We had a Pathfinder Sequence captain who led us to this school.”
“We met Wu Jianshan. He claimed to be a Sequence 2: Evangelist of the God-Worshipping Sequence.”
“He introduced us to the Death God. A beautiful, giant girl with mesmerizing eyes. I almost wanted to become her slave.”
“But what was more shocking was this: Wu Jianshan turned out to be the Captain’s biological brother. And the Vice-Captain’s uncle. And the Logistics Officer’s father.”
“It was unbelievable. How could one man be related to so many of us?”
Chen Ye and Chu Che felt a layer of cold sweat break out on their backs.
The parallel was terrifying.
Iron Lion (Nephew). Nana (Niece). Chen Ye (Brother/Classmate).
It’s the same setup.
Suddenly, both men felt a wave of dizziness. A cognitive fog rolled in, trying to smother their doubts.
In their minds, the face of Wu Jianshan flickered, overlaying itself onto other memories, rewriting their personal histories in real-time.
“Captain Chu…” Chen Ye gritted his teeth, clutching his head. “Something’s… wrong.”
“I…” Chu Che staggered to the desk. He grabbed a pen and frantically scribbled on a piece of paper.
[DO NOT BELIEVE WU JIANSHAN! HE IS FAKE!]
He stared at the words, his eyes glazing over. The cognitive hazard was fighting back, trying to erase the realization.
“Damn it!” Chen Ye roared, slapping himself. “Even if he is my brother, so what?”
“If my brother tries to kill me, I kill him first!”
His pragmatism cut through the fog like a knife. Relationships didn’t matter. Survival mattered.
Chu Che’s eyes cleared. “Agreed.”
They continued reading.
“A few days later, the Anomalies attacked. The Octopus, the Eye, the White Girl.”
“Wu Jianshan asked the Death God to fight. She used her eyes—those beautiful eyes—to look at them. And the monsters… they just gave up.”
“It was a power of immense guilt. Everyone who looked at her wept, paralyzed by their own sins.”
Chen Ye nodded. That’s the power Wu Jianshan used on us.
“But the Death God… she looked weaker after that. And Wu Jianshan looked stronger.”
“I realized the truth. The God-Worshipping Sequence… he doesn’t worship a god.”
“He worships himself.”
“He steals from the god. He trades his own senses for her powers. He lost his taste to gain her awe. He sacrifices us to feed her, then harvests her to feed himself.”
“In the end, he will become the God.”
“What a terrifying Sequence,” Chu Che whispered, the pieces falling into place.
“He builds a god, fattens it up, and then eats it piece by piece,” Chen Ye said, his voice cold. “He’s a parasite.”
“This is his third harvest,” Chu Che deduced.
“First ritual: The original 10 survivors. He reached Sequence 2.”
“Second ritual: The 32 people from this letter’s convoy. He reached Sequence 3.”
“And now…” Chen Ye waved the paper. “The third ritual. Us. One hundred people.”
“If he succeeds, he ascends to Sequence 4.”
“But the ritual has a condition,” Chu Che added. “It only works on believers. That’s why he’s so desperate for us to join the Church.”
“You can’t sacrifice an atheist to a god they don’t believe in.”
Chen Ye looked at Chu Che. “Wait. You have the Eavesdropping Radio. Why are you acting surprised? Didn’t you hear him plotting?”
“Do you know any villains who monologue their entire evil plan to an empty room?” Chu Che retorted.
“Didn’t he tell his Vice Bishops?”
“They’re not subordinates,” Chu Che sneered. “They’re livestock. Do you talk to your dinner before you eat it?”
Chen Ye: “…”
“You’re useless,” Chen Ye muttered.
“Fuck you, Chen Ye!”
BANG!
The classroom door was kicked open.
Nana and Ding Dong stood in the doorway, their faces dark with fury. Behind them were several armed cultists.
They looked at Chen Ye and Chu Che not as teammates, but as enemies of the faith.
