Chapter 92: Mr. Chen, Starting Today, I Am Your Dog
Work in the camp ground to a halt as the figure approached.
There was no helping it; he stuck out like a sore thumb.
It was a man, yet he possessed a bewitching charm that eclipsed most women. In terms of sheer allure, he wasn’t inferior to the calculating Xu Lina. In terms of delicate features, he rivaled the innocence of Zhou Xiaoxiao.
Had the survivors not already known his gender, no one would have doubted he was female. It was no wonder he had amassed 10 million fans online before the world ended.
But now, those large, beautiful eyes were filled with hatred, burning like a volcano on the brink of eruption.
The man was drenched in blood. In one hand, he clutched a necklace strung together from human teeth.
In the other, he carried a raw, bloody skull.
The survivors parted before him like the Red Sea, avoiding him as if he were the plague itself.
Judging by the direction he had come from, Chen Ye guessed he had just visited Mo Huairen’s corpse.
As for the grisly trophies? The teeth likely belonged to the old man, Mo Huairen. The flesh-covered skull was almost certainly his, too.
Ruthless, Chen Ye thought.
A stunningly beautiful crossdresser, soaked in gore, carrying a necklace of teeth and a severed head. The juxtaposition of extreme beauty and extreme violence sent a chill down everyone’s spine.
“Xue Nan, what do you think you’re doing?”
Xu Lina rushed out from the crowd, blocking Chen Ye’s path.
So, his name was Xue Nan.
Xu Lina had interacted with him once for business before the apocalypse, so they were technically acquaintances. Seeing him last night had shocked her, but seeing him now terrified her.
Xue Nan ignored the woman completely. He looked past her, fixing his gaze on Chen Ye.
In an instant, the volcanic rage in his eyes vanished, replaced entirely by profound gratitude.
One second, he looked like a demon; the next, a devout believer. The speed of his emotional shift was whiplash-inducing.
The seductive Xu Lina might as well have been air. In Xue Nan’s eyes, only Chen Ye existed. It looked as if Chen Ye could order him to die right now, and he would do it without hesitation.
To him, Chen Ye was a god.
However, hidden deep within that gratitude was a complex tangle of darker emotions.
Thud!
Xue Nan’s knees hit the sand. He kowtowed three times before Chen Ye—heavy, loud knocks against the ground.
Dong. Dong. Dong.
He tossed the teeth necklace and the skull to the side.
“Mr. Chen, starting today, Xue Nan is your dog. You can make me do anything you want!”
As the words left his mouth, the surrounding survivors cast strange, knowing looks at Chen Ye.
A crossdresser this beautiful… well, even if he’s not a woman, it’s not exactly a hard pill to swallow, is it?
Chen Ye’s face turned green.
Damn it, what are you people looking at?
I don’t care if the randoms misunderstand, but Sun Qianqian, why are you looking at me like that? You little brat, have you forgotten who holds the butcher knife around here?
The pink-haired girl’s face was twisted in disdain.
“Xue Nan, was it? What is the meaning of this?”
Chen Ye didn’t tell him to rise, so Xue Nan remained kneeling, his posture stiff and submissive.
“You killed that old bastard Mo Huairen. You avenged me!”
“I pried this necklace from his mouth. That skull is his, too.”
When he mentioned the trophies, the fire returned to Xue Nan’s eyes. The resentment he held for the old man was bone-deep.
Chen Ye studied the crossdresser.
He understood the logic. With Mo Huairen dead, Xue Nan had lost his protector. He was afraid of retaliation from others he might have offended, so he was desperate to secure a new, powerful patron.
The gratitude was probably real, but survival was the primary motivator.
“You… have changed a lot since yesterday,” Chen Ye said coldly.
“I only followed Mo Huairen because I wanted to find my sister. He told me she left with another team. I just wanted to find her.”
“Mo Huairen…”
As he spoke the name, Xue Nan’s expression contorted—hatred, humiliation, venom, and grief swirling together.
It was an emotion too complex for words.
To endure such degradation for the sake of family… this Xue Nan was someone who could tolerate the intolerable. Yesterday, he had seemed to enjoy his role as the old man’s plaything, showing no sign of resistance. He had played the part perfectly.
They call me a pervert, Chen Ye mused, but this guy might be even more twisted than I am.
“I killed Mo Huairen, which means the lead on your sister is cold. Don’t you hate me for that?”
“I hate! But right now, I feel gratitude!”
“Why?”
“I just found out… Mo Huairen lied to me! He never knew where my sister was. Everything was a lie.”
Just found out?
It seemed Xue Nan had rummaged through the old man’s belongings after the execution and found the truth.
As for what exactly he found, Chen Ye wasn’t interested. He didn’t do heavy emotional baggage.
Chen Ye waved his hand dismissively. “Get up. I don’t need a dog.”
He rejected the offer without a second thought.
A few survivors in the crowd looked disappointed, as if a good show had been cancelled.
“But…”
“No buts. The motorcade is leaving. Scram.”
Chen Ye shooed him away like a fly.
Xue Nan’s face flushed red, but he obeyed. He stood up, walked silently to a nearby camel, and mounted it. He didn’t speak another word.
“Depart!”
Uncle Bao’s voice crackled over the loudspeaker.
The motorcade began to lurch forward, a long string of camels trailing behind the vehicles.
Compared to their previous state, the convoy had grown significantly. Every vehicle was groaning under the weight of the new Supplies.
Captain Chu’s SUV had a roof rack piled nearly two meters high.
Sun Qianqian’s modified off-road vehicle struggled to ignite. Her roof rack was also packed to the bursting point, the center of gravity so high the car almost tipped over.
Iron Lion, standing nearby, reached out and steadied the vehicle with a single hand.
After advancing to Titan Sequence 2: Two-Headed Giant, the man had grown another twenty centimeters. He now stood at a towering 2.2 meters.
Even Chen Ye, who was over 1.8 meters tall, had to crane his neck to look at him.
Chen Ye’s own Doomsday Pickup wasn’t faring much better. It swayed ominously as the engine roared. Unlike the other modified vehicles, his pickup hadn’t been designed to haul this much cargo. It was severely overloaded.
Iron Lion’s school bus was the most exaggerated of all.
The roof was stacked with two meters of boxes and crates. From a distance, it looked like a moving warehouse. Inside, the bus was packed with survivors—not a single seat was empty.
The desert sand was soft, making traction difficult.
Several survivors jumped out of the bus to push, their faces turning beet-red from exertion, but the wheels just spun.
Iron Lion sighed. He walked over and, with a casual shove, pushed the massive, overloaded bus out of the sand pit.
Chen Ye’s eyes nearly popped out of his head.
Damn…
The big oaf got stronger again.
He had seen Iron Lion push vehicles before, but never with such terrifying ease.
Behind them, the camel bells jingled. Ding-dong, ding-dong.
Chen Ye drove his windowless, windshield-less Doomsday Pickup into the wastes. The scorching desert wind hammered his face.
This is torture…
He glanced at the system interface. The deduction had less than an hour left.
Soon.
Out of the corner of his eye, Chen Ye spotted the “Elderly Mobility Scooter”—the flimsy, enclosed cabin tricycle.
He looked away immediately.
He knew that old man was a walking problem. Approaching him would be nothing short of courting death.
However, he thought, that new woman, Ding Dong… maybe I can get her to test the waters and see what that old man’s deal is later.
In the lead vehicle, Captain Chu’s expression was grave.
They had delayed their departure again today, and the consequences were catching up.
In his perception, an Anomaly was tailing the convoy.
It was moving fast. It would be upon them in minutes.
