Synopsis

Life is hard. Life as a rat at the bottom of the food chain is impossible.
Wu Yuan was a modern graduate student with a bright future—until a truck sent him packing to the afterlife. He didn’t wake up as a hero, a prince, or a legendary warrior. He woke up in a damp hole, covered in brown fur, surrounded by squeaking siblings.
He is a Rat. A common, weak, snack-sized rodent in a world filled with magical beasts, ancient demons, and ruthless cultivators.
In the dangerous forests of Little Green Mountain, a snake can swallow him whole, and an owl can snatch him from the sky. Death is one mistake away.
But Wu Yuan has two advantages that the local beasts don’t: a human mind, and a mysterious cheat item fused to his soul—the [Causality Bead].
[Green Intel: Consume the Moon Spirit Grass at midnight to awaken Demon Power.] [Black Intel: Do not enter the cave. Certain death awaits.]
Armed with the ability to foresee opportunities and avoid fatal calamities, Wu Yuan begins his impossible climb to the top.
From chewing on Spirit Copper to forge an indestructible body, to commanding a swarm of thousands, to farming spirit herbs in secret underground bunkers—Wu Yuan will do whatever it takes to survive.
They call him a pest. He calls himself a future Demon King.

Chapter 129: Blood-Winged Black Mosquito

Wu Yuan immediately summoned another large group of rat demons, ordering them to attack him without mercy.

This time, his performance was even more exaggerated.

Wu Yuan shut down all his senses except for touch. He actively responded solely to the information brought by the air currents and spiritual fluctuations against his skin, facing the onslaught head-on.

Boom!

A wave of spells bombarded him. Yet, Wu Yuan’s body moved with an unnatural lightness, slipping through the minute gaps between the attacks like a fish swimming through a dense net.

Even when dodging was impossible, his body reacted autonomously. He would twist to meet the weakest spell head-on. His skin would tighten, faint spirit patterns glowing like a shield, and the spell would dissipate upon contact without a sound.

In his perception, every attacker was distinct. Despite their auras being identical to the naked eye, his skin could taste the difference in their spiritual signatures.

Wu Yuan murmured to himself, “The autumn wind has not yet moved, but the cicada senses it first… Is this Spell Nullification? Or Absolute Evasion?”

He stood tall, claws clasped behind his back, his expression proud and aloof. Behind him, the group of rat demons stared dumbfounded, their eyes filled with worship and awe.

“From now on, no cultivator can ambush me!” Wu Yuan declared. “In battles of the same level, I am untouchable!”

The rat demons immediately shouted fervently, “The Great King is mighty!”

The sound echoed throughout the mine cavern, shaking dust from the ceiling.

The corners of Wu Yuan’s mouth curled upward.

“Truly worthy of being a Divine Ability! Even if it’s just a seed, a mere fraction of its true power, the function is already this broken!”

Innate Divine Abilities were legendary. Usually, they were the exclusive domain of Golden Core cultivators.

While all demon beasts possessed innate spells carried by their bloodline—instincts born with them—an Innate Divine Ability was different. It required a high-concentration Nascent Soul bloodline or a specific, rare set of conditions to manifest.

For most cultivators, the only way to obtain a Divine Ability Seed was to reach the peak of Foundation Establishment and condense it upon breaking through to the Golden Core realm. Even then, only the elite succeeded.

The Green Roc Great Demon, for instance, had delayed forming his core for years precisely because he wanted to condense a Divine Ability Seed in one go. Yet, he remained stuck, staring at a cliff he could not cross.

And now, Wu Yuan—a mere Qi Condensation rat—had obtained what others could only dream of.

Wu Yuan examined the cyan seed in his mind, ignoring the fact that his Demon Power had quietly increased to thirty strands. His entire focus was on the prize.

The seed remained unmoved, quietly shining in his Sea of Consciousness.

After admiring it for a while longer, Wu Yuan smacked his lips and withdrew his gaze, his heart filled with anticipation.

Later, Wu Yuan stood quietly under the Spirit Mulberry Tree, eyes closed, concentrating on his connection with the plant.

Lord Xiaoqing’s kindness can never be repaid! he thought, still riding the high of his success.

Suddenly, an unusual fluctuation transmitted through the Spirit Mulberry Tree.

Wu Yuan’s eyes snapped open. He looked into the distance, a sharp glint of danger flashing in his gaze.

Through the tree’s perception, he captured a faint buzzing sound coming from the periphery of Little Green Mountain.

Buzz…

The beat of wings. A Blood-Winged Black Mosquito!

Although the sound was faint, it was exceptionally piercing to his heightened senses.

“I’ve never seen mosquitoes on Little Green Mountain,” Wu Yuan muttered, his vigilance spiking. “My territory is clean; there’s no stagnant water for them to breed. And this one… is heading straight for us.”

The unease in his gut grew stronger. “Something’s not right. There must be something behind this.”

At that moment, a blue notification box appeared before his eyes.

[Blue Intelligence: The Blood-Winged Black Mosquito Mother, newly born in the Corrupt Water Pool, has successfully passed her one-month incubation period. She has advanced to the mid-stage of Qi Refining and is massively expanding her swarm, seeking cultivation resources.]

Wu Yuan’s expression turned cold.

He had heard of the Blood-Winged Black Mosquito. They were common pests in dark, damp places, usually nothing to fear. Individually, they were weaker than his Spirit Fire Ants.

But the Blood-Winged Black Mosquito possessed a terrifying biological quirk. They were naturally born male. However, under extreme conditions, a female could be born.

Once a female appeared, she was known as a Mosquito Mother.

She was a calamity, ranked within the top five hundred of the World’s Strange Insect Ranking. She was hermaphroditic, capable of birthing an army single-handedly.

Within a month, this new Mosquito Mother had broken through to the mid-stage of Qi Refining and cultivated a swarm of over two hundred thousand demon mosquitoes.

The cost? There wasn’t a single living creature left alive around the Corrupt Water Pool.

One or two mosquitoes were nothing. But a swarm commanded by a Mother? That was an extinction event. The swarm acted as a single organism, capable of draining an enemy’s Qi and blood from a distance without even making contact. As long as the swarm existed, the Mother was effectively unkillable.

“It seems this Mosquito Mother has set her sights on my rat swarm,” Wu Yuan thought grimly. “We are the largest, juiciest concentration of biomass in the area. If she wants to cultivate, she won’t pass up this buffet.”

Wu Yuan felt a headache coming on.

Although he was personally stronger, the Mosquito Mother wouldn’t fight him one-on-one. She would drown him in bodies.

And he couldn’t simply send his rat army to fight. Ordinary rats would just be delivering themselves as food, supplying the enemy with more blood to breed more mosquitoes.

“How do I confront a swarm of over a hundred thousand flying vampires?”

Wu Yuan calculated rapidly. Then, his eyes lit up.

“Wait… I actually can.”

He realized he was overestimating the enemy’s quality.

His rat demons also numbered in the tens of thousands. While fewer than the mosquitoes, his troops were elites. The Mosquito Mother had only been born a month ago. Even with her extraordinary bloodline, she couldn’t have raised a hundred thousand elites overnight.

Most of her swarm would be newly hatched cannon fodder, catalyzed by her blood but lacking real cultivation.

“I have the Rat Swarm Divine Ability. She has the Mosquito Swarm Divine Ability.”

“But if I count my Spirit Bees and the Fire Ant Colony… my numbers aren’t actually that far off!”

A surge of heroic spirit rose in Wu Yuan’s chest.

“What am I afraid of? I am the Master of Little Green Mountain! The advantage is mine!”

“Little Yellow! Muster the troops!”

Wu Yuan’s voice boomed like a great bell within the treehouse.

Little Yellow, who had been lying lazily on the floor with his legs crossed, was intoxicatedly sniffing a fragrant fruit. He looked like an addict, occasionally sticking out his tongue to lick it, reluctant to actually eat the treasure.

Hearing Wu Yuan’s roar, he jolted so hard the fruit dropped from his paws.

But Little Yellow didn’t waste a second picking it up. He immediately grabbed the Wood Calling Spirit Horn hanging from his neck.

He placed it to his mouth, puffed out his cheeks, and blew with all his might.

Wooooooo—!

A low, drawn-out horn sound spread throughout Little Green Mountain. It was the call to war.
