Synopsis

Life is hard. Life as a rat at the bottom of the food chain is impossible.
Wu Yuan was a modern graduate student with a bright future—until a truck sent him packing to the afterlife. He didn’t wake up as a hero, a prince, or a legendary warrior. He woke up in a damp hole, covered in brown fur, surrounded by squeaking siblings.
He is a Rat. A common, weak, snack-sized rodent in a world filled with magical beasts, ancient demons, and ruthless cultivators.
In the dangerous forests of Little Green Mountain, a snake can swallow him whole, and an owl can snatch him from the sky. Death is one mistake away.
But Wu Yuan has two advantages that the local beasts don’t: a human mind, and a mysterious cheat item fused to his soul—the [Causality Bead].
[Green Intel: Consume the Moon Spirit Grass at midnight to awaken Demon Power.] [Black Intel: Do not enter the cave. Certain death awaits.]
Armed with the ability to foresee opportunities and avoid fatal calamities, Wu Yuan begins his impossible climb to the top.
From chewing on Spirit Copper to forge an indestructible body, to commanding a swarm of thousands, to farming spirit herbs in secret underground bunkers—Wu Yuan will do whatever it takes to survive.
They call him a pest. He calls himself a future Demon King.

Chapter 161: Suppressing the Black Water Flood Dragon Snake

Spiritual light flashed in Wu Yuan’s palm, and the Gu Duo mace materialized instantly.

Fueled by his boundless Demon Power, the mace glowed with a sickly, dark-yellow aura. Its surface was stained with layers of dried blood—a testament to the countless Demon Beasts Wu Yuan had already pounded into paste.

With a roar, Wu Yuan swung the mace down, smashing it against the Black Water Flood Dragon Snake’s Flood Dragon Spear.

CLANG!

Spiritual sparks erupted like fireworks, illuminating the murky water. The force of the impact sent shockwaves through the air, but neither combatant gave an inch. They were deadlocked.

The Black Water Flood Dragon Snake smirked, revealing a row of razor-sharp fangs.

“Your Magical Artifact is trash,” he mocked. “Low-Grade garbage.”

Wu Yuan’s expression remained dark. He knew the serpent was right. The mace was a Low-Grade First-Tier artifact, while the spear was High-Grade. He gritted his teeth and swung harder, parrying the increasingly rapid thrusts of the spear while his Demon Power flared to block the water spikes materializing around him.

With every clash, chips of Spirit Copper flew from the mace. Its surface became pitted and scarred, groaning under the strain.

Wu Yuan wasn’t worried; he was impressed.

A Low-Grade weapon holding its own against a High-Grade one? It must be my superior Demon Power acting as a buffer.

My cultivation is higher.

Wu Yuan looked at the serpent and smiled—a cold, confident baring of teeth. He inhaled deeply, his chest expanding like a bellows as he gathered his strength.

The Black Water Flood Dragon Snake sensed the shift and tensed, but he was too slow.

“ROAR!”

The Ten Thousand Roars Spirit Sound exploded from Wu Yuan’s throat.

This was no simple scream. Enhanced by the Heavenly Demon Soul-Confusing Sound, the sonic wave was a physical force laced with psychic disruption. It slammed into the serpent, wrapping around him like a vice and drilling into his skull.

The Black Water Flood Dragon Snake’s eyes rolled back. His vision twisted, the world spinning into a kaleidoscope of nausea. In his ears, a legion of beasts screamed in unison, drowning out his own thoughts.

What the hell is this technique?! he panicked, his mind fracturing under the sensory overload.

Wu Yuan seized the opening.

“Get down there!”

He raised the battered mace and brought it down with apocalyptic force directly onto the serpent’s skull.

CRACK!

The sound was sickeningly wet. The serpent’s face caved in, scales shattering and bone fracturing. The blow sent the massive body plummeting from the sky like a meteor, crashing into the lake below and raising a tsunami of water.

Wu Yuan hovered in the air, hefting his mace. One side of the spiked head had been completely flattened.

“Rest well, old friend,” Wu Yuan murmured, looking at the ruined weapon. “My first forged Magical Artifact has officially retired.”

He looked down at the churning water. “That head is hard. Truly worthy of a Flood Dragon.”

Wu Yuan didn’t hesitate. He transformed into a streak of light and dove after his prey. He knew a single blow wouldn’t kill a beast of that caliber.

But as he neared the surface, his instincts screamed.

Danger.

He tried to activate the Wind Walk Technique to veer away, but the water beneath him exploded.

A massive, black maw rose from the depths—silent, swift, and unavoidable.

The Black Water Flood Dragon Snake’s jaws clamped around him.

Inside the mouth, concentrated Demon Power created a terrifying suction force, locking Wu Yuan in place. His wind transformation was shattered before it could complete.

Wu Yuan’s eyes widened as the darkness swallowed him.

“OPEN!”

He roared, his Demon Power surging. His body expanded, muscles swelling as he activated his Barbarian Beast physique.

His claws shot out, grabbing the upper and lower fangs of the serpent. His feet braced against the tongue. With a grunt of exertion, he physically caught the closing jaws, holding the mouth open like a pillar of Atlas.

The Black Water Flood Dragon Snake’s eyes flashed with shock. He blocked it?

Panicked, the serpent intensified the suction, trying to drain Wu Yuan’s Qi and Blood while crushing him with hydraulic jaw pressure.

Crunch.

Wu Yuan’s bones creaked. His body compressed, blood seeping from his pores under the immense pressure.

But then, the red light in his eyes flared.

“Is that all you have?!” Wu Yuan laughed maniacally, blood dripping from his snout. “Your strength is nothing compared to mine!”

His Barbarian Beast bloodline roared to life, generating endless waves of Qi and Blood that pushed back against the crushing force. Wu Yuan slowly straightened his spine, forcing the jaws wider.

“Now, it’s my turn.”

His tail whipped forward. It elongated, turning into a silver spear wrapped in dense Demon Power.

Thrust.

The tail shot straight down the serpent’s throat.

The Black Water Flood Dragon Snake tried to summon a lightning breath to block it, but he was too slow. The tail punched through the gathering energy and slammed into the soft tissue of the throat.

Puchi!

Flesh tore.

ROAR!

The serpent thrashed in agony, shaking his head violently, but Wu Yuan held on to the teeth with a death grip. His tail piston-pumped, stabbing again and again, turning the throat into a ruin of shredded meat. Blood geysered up, drenching Wu Yuan.

Wu Yuan extended his Demon Sense through the open wounds, hunting for the brainstem.

Terrified, the Black Water Flood Dragon Snake mentally summoned his Flood Dragon Spear from the lakebed. The weapon shot out of the water, aiming straight for Wu Yuan—even if it meant piercing through the snake’s own mouth to hit him.

Wu Yuan sensed the cold steel approaching from behind.

A pity, he thought. I almost had him.
