Chapter 238: Enemy Contact
As Li Youci finished speaking, the group froze.
Before they could process her command, Zhou Kai raised a hand, pointing toward a pile of jagged rocks.
“There.”
Fish Baibai was the most obedient. Hearing the order, she didn’t hesitate. She hoisted her massive Hundred Change Little Rabbit Hammer and charged, shouting garbled nonsense.
“Junior Brother points the way! Little Rabbit clears the path!”
Shen Hanyi didn’t speak. She simply vanished, transforming into a streak of gold-white sword light that overtook the hammer-wielding girl in an instant.
Mo Qianyuan frowned slightly, three Immobilization Talismans already pinched between her fingers as she followed.
Fang Lizhe let out a roar, his Spiritual Energy surging. He launched himself like a cannonball, screaming his chuunibyou slogan. “Evil demons! Prepare for judgment! Watch this Fang execute justice on behalf of Heaven!”
Everyone moved. Only Zhou Kai remained still.
His attention wasn’t on the ghosts ahead, but on Li Youci beside him.
Li Youci noticed his inaction. Her perfect brow twitched almost imperceptibly, but she relaxed just as quickly.
She paused, adjusting her tone. When she spoke again, the sharp edges were gone.
“Zhou Kai. You don’t need to hunt ghosts. Stay by my side. Protect me.”
The corner of Zhou Kai’s mouth hooked up. He didn’t say much. He simply took a step closer, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with her.
“As you command,” he whispered into her ear. “Now… can we talk about the Yang and Song family Guardians?”
His breath tickled her ear. She tilted her head away slightly, though her voice remained cool. “In Tongming Valley, life and death are irrelevant. If they fight us to the death, we kill them.”
Despite her tough words, a strand of pure Soul Power drilled into Zhou Kai’s Consciousness Sea.
The soul packet unfolded into two flowing data streams, displaying the appearances, Dharma Treasures, signature moves, and even combat habits of the enemy Guardians.
Zhou Kai digested the intel instantly.
Hah. Tough mouth, soft heart.
ROAR—!
The rubble pile exploded. The wind turned into a mournful shriek as dozens of twisted, spectral shadows pounced.
The lead ghost had four arms, a green face, and fangs, its body shrouded in Baleful Qi so thick it was nearly solid. It screeched, leading a horde of maimed spirits toward the group.
“Come at me!” Fish Baibai’s eyes shone with excitement. The ground cracked beneath her feet as she swung her hammer—a weapon larger than she was—down on a Fierce Ghost.
“Eat my hammer! Fire-Breathing Little Rabbit!”
BOOM!
The rabbit eyes on the hammerhead flashed red. A torrent of flame erupted, engulfing the ghost instantly. It vaporized without a scream, leaving only a wisp of green smoke.
Fish Baibai blinked at the empty space. She scratched her head. “Oops. Too much force.”
On the other flank, Shen Hanyi faced a similar problem.
As a natural Sword Embryo, her blade was born for slaughter. She thrust out—no wasted movement, just a pure line of light.
Before the tip even connected, her Sword Intent bisected a ghost. The spirit didn’t even have time to dissipate; the anti-evil properties of her intent erased it from existence.
She frowned. She restrained seventy percent of her power, turning the blade flat to slap the next ghost unconscious. But before the metal touched, the sheer pressure of her Intent tore the spirit apart.
For her, not killing was harder than killing.
A body cultivator and a sword cultivator, both holding back, ended up being the most idle members of the team.
Mo Qianyuan shouted a clear command. Talismans flew from her fingers, forming a precise geometric encirclement that sealed all escape routes.
“Fix!” “Bind!” “Capture!”
The talismans exploded with light, turning into golden chains that wrapped the ghosts, locking them down like criminals.
“Mere ghosts dare act reckless before the Blade God?!” Fang Lizhe struck a pose. “By the authority of the Earth, heed my command! Wall to Prison… Ouch!”
A ghost swiped him mid-pose, sending him tumbling.
Panicked, he fired a random blast of Spiritual Energy. “Earth, come!”
The blast hit the ground, causing a tremor. A ghost stumbled—right into a soundwave rope Su Xuan had casually flicked out.
“Damn it! Ambush!” Fang Lizhe scrambled up, dusting himself off. “Hmph. You ran fast. Otherwise, my ‘Earth-Splitting Mountain-Crushing Slash’ would have ended you!”
Su Xuan stood on the periphery, jade flute in hand, smiling gently. He waved the flute, sending out rings of soundwaves that bound the ghosts Fang Lizhe missed.
Compared to Su Xuan’s elegance, Gao Feihuang was pure flamboyance.
His peach-blossom eyes scanned the ghosts like a shopper in a toy store. His red robes fluttered in the Yin wind.
“Little darlings, don’t run. Play with Big Brother.”
He scattered a handful of golden beans. Flash! They transformed into a squad of yellow-turbaned puppet warriors that charged the ghosts.
He flicked a scroll into the air. An array diagram unfolded, trapping three elite ghosts in a light prison.
From his sleeve, a blood-colored lightning bolt shot out—a spirit eagle that seized a Ghost General’s head in its talons.
When a Ghost King (Late Foundation Establishment level) charged him, Gao Feihuang’s smile widened.
He pointed a finger. A tiny crimson flame flicked out, hitting the Ghost King’s forehead. A blood-colored curse seal spread instantly.
The Ghost King screamed, then shuddered. The red light in its eyes died, replaced by dull obedience. It prostrated itself before Gao Feihuang.
Zhou Kai’s eyes narrowed.
He sensed the momentary extraction of Essence Blood from Gao Feihuang’s body. That flame wasn’t Spiritual Energy; it was blood magic.
This guy hides deep. That technique reeks of the Demonic Path… Rumors about Calamity Abyss Valley acting without restraint are clearly true.
The battle ended quickly. The group dragged the bound ghosts back.
Gao Feihuang dragged the docile Ghost King to Li Youci like a cat presenting a dead mouse.
“Eldest Miss. Look at this spirited batch. New toys for your banner.”
Li Youci glanced at the blood rune on the ghost’s forehead. She recognized the technique but said nothing.
She raised her hand. The Myriad Soul Banner unfurled. On the black surface, countless beast souls roared silently. There were no human souls—she held the bottom line of the Righteous Path.
“Enter.”
An invisible pressure crushed the captive ghosts. They dissolved into streams of light, sucked into the banner.
Li Youci retracted the banner. The surface seemed glossier, the wails inside louder. She smiled, satisfied, and sat down to refine them.
Gao Feihuang strolled away, leaning against a rock with lazy grace, though his eyes remained alert. Su Xuan stood on the other side, creating a zone of tranquility with his flute.
With these two guarding, Zhou Kai relaxed.
He looked at his women. “Let’s not be idle.”
Zhou Kai had goals. Hanyi needed Evil Soul Crystals. He needed Soul Channeling Nether Grass.
“Yay! Treasure hunting!” Fish Baibai pulled a palm-sized scorpion from her bag.
The scorpion hit the ground and swelled instantly into a giant, man-sized beast with a pitch-black carapace.
“Big Yellow! Dig!”
The scorpion burrowed into the earth.
Fish Baibai climbed onto Zhou Kai’s shoulder, swinging her legs. “Junior Brother, you’re an Elder now. You promised to take me to the Rainbow Mist Spirit Spring!”
Zhou Kai pinched her cheek. “Okay, okay. When we get back.”
“The Evil Soul Crystals here are low purity,” Shen Hanyi said, crushing a grey crystal in her hand. “Useless.”
She looked deeper into the valley. “I need to go to the bottom.”
“Naturally,” Zhou Kai agreed.
“Why haven’t we seen any powerful demons?” Mo Qianyuan complained, waving her brush. “I need high-level demon blood for my new talismans.”
Zhou Kai laughed. His women were all very… goal-oriented.
Suddenly, his smile froze. His gaze locked onto the mist in the distance.
“Junior Brother?” Fish Baibai sensed his tension.
Shen Hanyi’s hand dropped to her hilt. Mo Qianyuan palmed a stack of offensive talismans.
Trouble.
Zhou Kai’s pupils contracted.
The chaotic heavenly secrets of the valley suppressed Divine Sense, blurring even his Cicada Chirp Steals Heaven. He switched to visual focus.
A thousand zhang away, the thick mist parted.
Eight figures walked out.
Song Family True Disciple, Song Jun. Yang Family True Disciple, Yang Zikun.
Behind them walked six Song Family Guardians.
Zhou Kai’s heart sank.
Eight enemies. Seven Golden Core cultivators. And the body cultivator leading them… his Vitality was a furnace.
Viscera Refining Mid-Stage.
