Chapter 240: A Melody That Shatters Heart and Gut, Mutual Destruction!
On the other side, Zhou Kai did not hesitate.
With a thought, his Spirit Beast Bag snapped open. A black cloud erupted like spilled ink, buzzing furiously. It was the swarm of Split Back Katydids.
The swarm didn’t attack. Instead, they knitted together in the air, forming a writhing, living shield of chitin and mandibles that enclosed Fish Baibai and Mo Qianyuan in a sphere.
The friction of their carapaces emitted a teeth-grating metallic screech.
“Junior Brother!” Fish Baibai shouted, anxious.
“Protect yourselves. Do not distract us,” Zhou Kai ordered, his voice cold iron.
As the insect shield solidified, his gaze met Shen Hanyi’s. No words were needed.
They launched simultaneously, splitting left and right to intercept the three Early Golden Core cultivators—Li Wei, Zhao Hu, and Qian Mang.
These three were veterans of the killing fields. Their coordination was seamless, their killing intent locking onto the duo instantly.
Sword light cascaded like a waterfall. Hammer shadows loomed like mountains. Qi collided with a deafening roar.
But fighting two against three, Zhou Kai and Shen Hanyi were immediately suppressed by the veterans’ ruthless efficiency, forced onto the back foot.
However, the true center of gravity of this battlefield lay elsewhere.
Su Xuan versus Zheng Pinxian.
“KILL!”
Zheng Pinxian roared, a single syllable torn from his throat.
He stomped the ground, launching himself like a meteor. Wrapped in earth-yellow Qi armor inscribed with heavy runes, he carried the momentum of a collapsing mountain.
He cast no techniques. He poured every ounce of his Mid-Golden Core power into his flesh and armor, intending to smash Su Xuan into a paste with pure, barbaric kinetic force.
Su Xuan’s face was pale, but his eyes burned with terrifying brightness.
He didn’t retreat. He advanced.
He held his jade flute horizontally. His fingers blurred over the holes, moving so fast they left afterimages.
HUMMM—
A high-pitched, piercing note erupted, sharp enough to cleave metal!
The sound waves materialized into visible green ripples, layering instantly into a massive water-curtain barrier that shimmered with cold light.
BOOM!
Zheng Pinxian slammed into the barrier without deviation!
The sonic wall shuddered violently, destructive ripples expanding outward, but it held against the earth-shattering impact.
Surprise flickered in Zheng Pinxian’s eyes, instantly replaced by savagery.
“BREAK!”
He punched with both fists. His Qi condensed into two snarling earth-dragon heads, smashing into the barrier’s stress point with the weight of a falling star.
CRACK!
The barrier shattered into a shower of green sparks.
But Su Xuan had already vanished, reappearing ten zhang away.
He slid a finger down the flute. The melody shifted abruptly—from piercing high notes to a graceful, fluid tune like a celestial stream.
The shattered green sparks animated, coalescing into a massive, translucent fish that swam through the air toward Zheng Pinxian.
“Flashy trash!”
Zheng Pinxian didn’t dodge. He let the fish strike him. His armor runes flared, and an overwhelming force erupted outward.
BANG!
The fish disintegrated into mist.
But hidden within the mist was a needle-thin strand of sound—invisible, silent, and lethal. It pierced the water vapor and stabbed directly at Zheng Pinxian’s forehead!
Sound-Killing Art!
A phantom bell materialized in Zheng Pinxian’s Consciousness Sea.
DONG!
The bell tolled, blocking the fatal strike by a hair’s breadth. Zheng Pinxian staggered, dizziness washing over him as his soul screamed in pain.
Vicious!
Zheng Pinxian’s rage skyrocketed. He despised men like Su Xuan—smiling assassins who hid daggers in their melodies.
He slapped his chest, spitting a mouthful of Essence Blood onto his ancient bronze shield.
The blood soaked into the metal. The shield swelled, rust flaking away to reveal a ferocious beast totem.
“SUPPRESS!”
He pointed. The giant shield transformed into a streak of light, carrying the weight of a mountain range, crashing down on Su Xuan’s skull.
Space solidified under the pressure. Before the shield even arrived, Su Xuan’s bones groaned, threatening to snap.
Su Xuan’s expression turned grave.
He closed his eyes. He shifted his grip, holding the flute vertically against his lips.
In that moment, his gentle scholar aura vanished. He became a blade.
His Golden Core spun madly. Every drop of Qi, every shred of focus, poured into the instrument.
The white jade flute began to glow, turning a blinding, blood-red crimson.
His lips moved. He blew the final note.
Silence.
The roar of battle, the clash of swords, the wind—everything vanished.
Heaven and Earth lost their voice.
A sound wave—formless, yet containing the essence of absolute slaughter—condensed into a needle as fine as gossamer. It shot from the flute, invisible and unstoppable.
Great Sound is Silent, Immortal Severing Finger.
A forbidden technique of mutual destruction.
The silent needle met the heaven-suppressing shield in mid-air.
There was no explosion. No light show.
Time froze.
Crack… crackle…
A sharp fracturing sound pierced the silence.
On the invincible bronze shield, a spiderweb of cracks exploded outward from the center!
BANG!
With a dull thud, the High-Grade Dharma Treasure detonated, disintegrating into a cloud of scrap metal!
Zheng Pinxian stiffened as if struck by lightning. His eyes bulged, capillaries bursting. He opened his mouth and sprayed a fountain of blood.
The invisible force hadn’t just broken his shield—it had pierced his protective light and detonated inside his Consciousness Sea!
The phantom bell shattered.
But Su Xuan paid a steeper price.
The blow drained him instantly. The blood-stained flute slipped from his fingers, its light extinguishing.
Blood seeped from his eyes, nose, and ears. His gaze turned dead grey. He dropped from the sky like a withered leaf, silent and broken.
Mutual Destruction.
In less than twenty breaths, two Mid-Golden Core powerhouses had crippled each other.
For a moment, the battlefield fell into a terrified hush.
“AHHH—!”
The silence was broken by a scream.
On the other side of the sky, a blinding sphere of blood-light detonated!
A figure was blasted out of the explosion like a broken meteor. Trailing a long comet-tail of blood, he crashed into the earth, ploughing a trench through the rock.
When the dust settled, the figure rolled to a stop right next to the fallen Su Xuan.
It was Gao Feihuang.
His robes were shredded. His Meridians were severed. Countless bones were pulverized. He lay there like a pile of bloody mud.
Gao Feihuang coughed violently, hacking up clots of blood. He forced a twisted grin, turning his head to look at his comrade. His peach-blossom eyes were bloodshot and eerie.
“Junior Brother Su…” he wheezed. “Look at my red robe… paired with this blood… isn’t it… even more vibrant?”
