Chapter 217: Su Meiyu’s Defeat? Reporting to the Grand Elder, I’ll Give It a Try!
Upon entering the Void Space, neither Su Meiyu nor Old Ghost Black Sha wasted a breath on words. As if sharing a tacit understanding, they struck simultaneously!
Boom!
A seemingly simple, unadorned exchange of palms triggered a violent spatial tremor. Invisible shockwaves from the battle rippled outward, distorting the very air! Even separated by the protective light screen, the 100,000 Inner Disciples gathered on the training plaza—along with the numerous instructors, deacons, and hall masters—could feel the terrifying energy surging from within.
Hua!
Countless spectators involuntarily let out cries of excitement. A contest of this caliber might lack the rapid-fire intensity of a Golden Core Stage brawl, but every movement here represented the absolute mechanics of power!
As the saying goes, the Great Dao is supreme simplicity. The higher one’s cultivation realm, the simpler the methods of combat often became. Gone were the flashy martial arts and physical techniques; in their place were direct collisions of pure energy, divine abilities, and the immortal arts inherent in Dharma Treasures!
Of course, if the strength of both sides was evenly matched, tactical brilliance could still tip the scales.
“Terrifying!”
In the front row of the spectator stands, Han Lie inwardly marveled. The deceptively simple exchange between Su Meiyu and Old Ghost Black Sha carried a scent of danger that Han Lie could detect even through the barrier. Just as Grand Elder Chi Lian had warned, once one reaches the Nascent Soul Stage, a massive chasm exists between every minor realm. This gap is nearly impossible to bridge unless one possesses overwhelming trump cards.
Following that single palm strike, the disparity became glaringly obvious.
Su Meiyu was blasted back over a thousand meters, struggling to stabilize her footing. In stark contrast, Old Ghost Black Sha had merely taken a few steps back. One move was all it took to reveal the gulf in their power.
“You…!”
Su Meiyu dispelled the tyrannical energy invading her meridians and spoke solemnly, “You have already touched upon Perfection?!”
Old Ghost Black Sha chuckled, the sound grating and arrogant. “Hehe. I must thank the Grand Elder for confining This Senior for ten years. During that decade of isolation, This Senior settled my mind, experienced an Epiphany of the Great Dao, and finally touched the threshold of Nascent Soul Perfection.”
He smoothed his sleeves. “Although I have not formally broken through, defeating you is now as easy as reaching into a bag to retrieve an item.”
Old Ghost Black Sha’s declaration sent a wave of commotion through the stands.
Originally, if both Su Meiyu and Old Ghost Black Sha were merely at the late Nascent Soul Stage, the outcome of this Elder selection match would have been unpredictable. But if Old Ghost Black Sha had indeed touched the threshold of Perfection, the narrative changed completely.
“How could this be!”
Beside Han Lie, Qin Lan stood up, her expression grave. “This is bad.”
“Master…” Zhuo Hongyi gritted her silver teeth, her hands clenching.
For Qin Lan, Zhuo Hongyi, and the other disciples of the Law Enforcement Hall, the news of Old Ghost Black Sha’s advancement was a bitter pill to swallow.
“With such a huge gap in strength, it will be very hard for Hall Master Su Meiyu to win, won’t it? Brother!” Xiao Qingge looked at Han Lie, worry for Su Meiyu written all over her face.
“Logically speaking, yes.”
Han Lie’s brows knit together tightly. He finally understood why Qin Lan had initially held out hope, yet Grand Elder Chi Lian had been absolutely certain of Su Meiyu’s defeat. The two combatants were simply no longer in the same weight class.
Don’t let the phrase “touched the threshold” fool you. In this state, Old Ghost Black Sha was essentially unrivaled among anyone below the true Nascent Soul Perfection stage. An ordinary late Nascent Soul cultivator would have zero chance of victory unless they possessed divine abilities or Dharma Treasures a full tier superior to his.
Clearly, in terms of cultivation techniques, abilities, and equipment, Su Meiyu held no such advantage over a fellow hall master.
Damn. It’s a good thing I made ample preparations. If I had gone up against Old Ghost Black Sha in my state from two months ago, I wouldn’t even know how I died! Han Lie secretly wiped a sheen of cold sweat from his forehead.
Even now, facing an opponent bordering on Perfection, Han Lie felt no certainty in his heart. The cultivation gap was immense, and having never fought the old man, he was blind to his specific techniques.
Fortunately, this fight was an opportunity. He could use Su Meiyu’s struggle to analyze Old Ghost Black Sha’s moves and methods.
“Master!”
“Master!”
“Master!”
Meanwhile, the thousands of disciples from the Overlord Hall began to cheer with wild abandon, as if their master’s victory was already etched in stone.
Inside the Void Space.
“Well then, Hall Master Su. My earlier offer still stands,” Old Ghost Black Sha said with oozing confidence, hands tucked into his sleeves.
“In my life, Su Meiyu has never fled from battle!”
Su Meiyu’s aura flared again. “Perhaps I will ultimately fall, but at the very least… I will give myself a dignified end!”
She rallied her spirit. Although Old Ghost Black Sha had surpassed her in cultivation, she refused to believe defeat was absolute until the final blow landed.
“Good. Hall Master Su, This Senior appreciates your spirit.” Old Ghost Black Sha nodded. “Then let us begin the second round.”
Knowing the disparity in their cultivation, Su Meiyu held nothing back. She unleashed every divine ability and Dharma Treasure she had mastered in her lifetime, raining attacks upon Old Ghost Black Sha.
However, reality was cruel. With inferior cultivation and no equipment capable of crushing her opponent, her chances were negligible. Su Meiyu’s all-out desperation caused Old Ghost Black Sha some trouble, but that was the extent of it.
Pfft!
Old Ghost Black Sha landed a heavy palm strike on Su Meiyu’s chest, and the Void Space shattered around them. Both figures materialized back on the training plaza.
“Hall Master Su, you have lost.”
Old Ghost Black Sha, hands clasped behind his back, walked slowly toward her and announced the result with a flat, imperious tone.
Su Meiyu clutched her chest, a trail of blood staining the corner of her vermilion lips. She remained silent, seemingly resigned to her fate. She had given everything she had; she could accept the loss with a clear conscience.
“Then, I announce…”
Grand Elder Chi Lian stood up from her seat. “The winner of this Elder selection match is the Master of the Overlord Hall, Old Ghost Black Sha.”
In that instant, the thousands of disciples of the Overlord Hall erupted. Unbridled cheers filled the air, excitement flushed on every face. Old Ghost Black Sha’s lips curled into a smug arc as his gaze drifted to the Law Enforcement Hall’s section.
His eyes locked directly onto Han Lie, who sat beside Qin Lan.
As their gazes met, Grand Elder Chi Lian’s voice rang out once more. “Finally, I ask one last time. Is there any other Hall Master who wishes to challenge Old Ghost Black Sha? Winning grants immediate promotion to the Council of Elders. Opportunities like this come only once.”
Silence!
Dead silence.
The other six hall masters looked at one another, shifting uncomfortably. None dared to step forward. Their strength was comparable to Su Meiyu’s, and seeing how thoroughly she had been dismantled, they knew their fate would be no different.
“Reporting to the Grand Elder!”
A voice suddenly cut through the quiet.
“Since the esteemed Hall Masters dare not challenge him… then I would like to give it a try!”
