Chapter 287: Such Sanctimonious Hypocrites!
“I had a feeling something was wrong back then. It seems my instincts were right.” Han Lie held the two letters, comparing them with a grim chuckle. “Look. The contents are almost identical. Your Master couldn’t even be bothered to put in the slightest effort.”
Xiao Yuruo sneered, a cold light in her eyes. “Perhaps she assumed we would never see each other again. Or that if we did, we would already be mortal enemies.”
They both knew their bond was stronger than that. A single, forged letter—no matter how hurtful—was never enough to drive them to a point of no return. The foundation of their relationship, though tested by a decade of silence, was not so fragile.
“At least the misunderstanding is resolved,” Han Lie said, a murderous glint flashing in his dark eyes. “Otherwise…”
He might not be a match for Leng Ye, the current Sect Master of the Myriad Sword Pavilion, but that was only for now. A day would come when he would surpass her, when he would stand so far above her that she couldn’t even meet his gaze.
On that day, the Myriad Sword Pavilion would drown in a river of its own blood.
To manipulate and deceive her own prized disciple… was this the so-called righteous path of the Immortal Sects?
“Yes,” Xiao Yuruo breathed, a long sigh of relief escaping her lips. The weight that had crushed her heart for years finally lifted. Things were not as hopeless as she had feared.
“What’s your plan now?” Han Lie asked.
“I’m going to see how she explains this to my face!” When it came to Han Lie, Xiao Yuruo’s will was iron. Not even her own Master could bend it. If Leng Ye was willing to resort to such a scheme once, what would she do next time? The thought sent a chill down her spine.
*VMMMM!*
In that instant, the very air grew heavy, suffocating under an unparalleled and terrifying pressure that descended from the void.
Han Lie and Xiao Yuruo both froze.
Their eyes met. “What was bound to come has finally arrived.”
There was no mistaking it. This suffocating aura could only belong to one person: Leng Ye, the Sect Master of the Myriad Sword Pavilion.
“Are you afraid?” Xiao Yuruo asked, her voice grave.
“How could I not be? But I trust you,” Han Lie replied with a forced, easygoing smile.
Trust was one thing, but Han Lie was no fool. He had already formulated an escape plan in his mind. Facing a monster like Leng Ye, carelessness was a death sentence.
“Good.” A genuine smile bloomed on Xiao Yuruo’s face. “Then let’s face her together.”
With a flicker, they vanished from the teahouse and reappeared in the open sky above the Buried Immortal Mountain Range.
Across from them, an old woman stood with her hands clasped behind her back. Her gaze, fixed upon them, was a storm of anger and frustration.
“Rebellious disciple! Do you have any idea what you are doing?” Leng Ye’s voice was glacial, her expression a mask of stern authority.
“I know exactly what I’m doing. The question is, do *you*, Master?” Xiao Yuruo spat the title like a curse. “I gave you my complete trust! And this is how you repay it? If you disapproved of my relationship with Han Lie, you should have just said so! I would have thanked you for your years of guidance and left the sect. Why did you have to betray my trust to deceive me?”
But Leng Ye remained unmoved, her reasoning as unyielding as a mountain.
“Of all the men in the world, you chose a fiend from a Demonic Sect! Everything I have done was for your own good. Can you not see that?” Leng Ye’s tone left no room for argument. “Return with me to the celebration at once, and I will overlook your little escapade today.”
“I refuse!” Xiao Yuruo’s rejection was absolute. “You claim it’s for my own good, but have you ever once considered my feelings? Do not force your ideals upon me!”
If not for her powerful family background, she would never have the standing to defy the Sect Master so openly.
“Who I love is my own choice. I will obey you in all other matters, but on this, you have no right to interfere!” Her voice rang out, clear and powerful, her presence blazing with defiance.
“Xiao Yuruo!” Leng Ye’s composure finally cracked, her voice sharp with fury. “I taught you to respect your elders and honor the path! Is this how you show it?”
“You need to understand something,” she continued, her voice dropping to a menacing hiss. “Forbidding you from seeing this demonic spawn was not my decision alone. It was a direct order from your father! I am trying to handle this with grace. Do you think he will be so accommodating when he arrives?”
“Is that so?” Xiao Yuruo was unfazed. “Then I will simply return home and discuss it with my father myself. You needn’t trouble yourself.”
“Fine! Fine! Fine!” Leng Ye’s chest heaved, her rage barely contained. “Go home and talk to your father! But today, you *will* return with me to the sect for the celebration I organized in your name. Are you trying to make me a laughingstock in front of the entire Myriad Sword Pavilion?”
Still, Xiao Yuruo shook her head. “Master, I am not a child. If I return with you now, what freedom will I have left? You say it is my father’s order, so I will go and confirm it with him. Then, I will return.”
“Insolent girl!”
*BOOM!*
Leng Ye’s roar shook the heavens. The sheer force of it sent a shockwave through Han Lie and Xiao Yuruo, making their heads ring and their minds go momentarily blank.
“I tried to reason with you, but you refused to listen. Did you truly think I was powerless to stop you?”
As she spoke, Leng Ye extended a hand and clenched her fist.
The space around Han Lie and Xiao Yuruo warped and shattered, imploding before reforming into two crystalline prisons that sealed them inside.
Han Lie unleashed his full power, striking the walls of his cage, but the spatial prison didn’t even tremble.
“Heh,” Han Lie laughed, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “So this is the famed Sect Master of a ‘righteous’ sect? Your methods are no different from ours in the Demonic Path.” He paused, a cruel smirk on his face. “No, I take that back. At least we in the Heavenly Void Sect aren’t such sanctimonious hypocrites. We’d never stoop to tearing lovers apart.”
His mockery was the final spark. Leng Ye’s fury erupted into pure killing intent. “Demonic fiend! You dare bewitch the Young Pavilion Master of my Myriad Sword Pavilion? Today, this Buried Immortal Mountain Range will become your tomb!”
She flicked a finger.
A sliver of pure spiritual energy condensed into a blade of light, tearing through the void as it shot straight for Han Lie’s heart.
“STOP!”
“IF HE IS HARMED IN ANY WAY TODAY, I WILL NO LONGER BE YOUR DISCIPLE!”
Xiao Yuruo’s hysterical shriek echoed across the mountains.
The blade of light, powerful enough to obliterate Han Lie’s very soul, froze in place. It hummed with deadly power a thousand feet from his chest—a distance that felt no different than having the tip pressed against his heart.
Han Lie’s hand, which had been gripping a spatial jade slip, ready to crush it and summon aid, slowly relaxed.
Even so, a cold sweat drenched his back. There was no doubt in his mind—that killing intent was real. Leng Ye had fully intended to end him.
