Han Yu swallowed the Qi Refining Spirit Boosting Pill.
Instantly, the medicinal energy dissolved, transforming into a torrent of pure Spirit Breath that surged through his body. His cultivation base swelled visibly.
Han Yu immediately closed his eyes, guiding the erratic energy through a full Circulation Cycle, taming it and merging it into his Dantian.
Incredible.
This wasn’t like ordinary pills, which required days of slow digestion to convert medicinal toxicity into power. This was a direct injection of raw cultivation—ten days’ worth of hard labor condensed into a single moment.
To the outside world, the Qi Refining Spirit Boosting Pill was a curiosity—rare, but ultimately limited because the ingredients spoiled so quickly. In the Central Heaven Domain, it was a luxury item, difficult to amass in quantity.
To Wanchun Valley, these pills were merely the cherry on top of the recent trade deal. Sect Leader Qi valued the intelligence on the Central Heaven Domain and the Jade Spirit Berry seeds far more. The pills were seen as a minor bonus, a token of the connection with the Great Zhou Crown Prince.
But for Han Yu, the significance was earth-shattering.
This was the first resource he had found that could fundamentally break the time limit of his daily cultivation.
Han Yu opened his eyes, calculating rapidly.
The pill provides ‘ten days of cultivation,’ but that standard is based on an average cultivator’s speed. I am a Three Spirit Root cultivator, yet I train with the Ancestral Tree Spirit Liquid and the Thousand-Year Sunkwood Heart. My ‘one day’ is already far more efficient than the norm.
By his estimation, one pill provided him with the equivalent of six or seven days of his personal, maximum-efficiency cultivation.
He narrowed his eyes. Time to push the limit.
Usually, a sudden influx of Spirit Breath required time to stabilize. If the foundation wasn’t solid, the energy would become volatile. But Han Yu had always prioritized control. From the moment he started his path, he had drilled his spellcasting and energy manipulation until they were as natural as breathing—as if commanding his own limbs.
He felt confident.
Han Yu activated his cheat ability. A second Qi Refining Spirit Boosting Pill materialized in his palm.
Currently, he could replicate two of these pills a day. If he didn’t use his replication charges, he could bank them up to twenty days—saving up for expensive items like the Thousand-Year Sunkwood Heart or magical artifacts. But today, he needed raw power.
He popped the second pill into his mouth.
Simultaneously, he placed a drop of Ancestral Tree Spirit Liquid under his tongue and gripped the Thousand-Year Sunkwood Heart in his hand.
Green Grain Qi Cultivation Method, activate.
Boom.
The effect was immediate. The second pill, combined with his usual boosters, ramped the efficiency up to eight or nine days’ worth of progress in a single session.
But then, the backlash hit.
Han Yu’s head swam. A wave of dizziness crashed over him, and his Dantian felt bloated, as if he had eaten a feast three times too large. His meridians ached with internal pressure.
He glanced at a bronze mirror. His skin was flushing a deep, alarming crimson.
Too much, he realized. Two pills plus the Spirit Liquid equals nearly half a month of cultivation slammed into my body at once. I need to refine this, now!
He didn’t dare delay. He sat cross-legged, forcing his mind to focus. He grabbed the chaotic ropes of Spirit Breath and dragged them into the Circulation Cycle.
One cycle. The dizziness faded slightly. Two cycles. The bloating in his meridians eased. By the third cycle, the wild energy was tamed, flowing obediently into his Dantian.
Han Yu didn’t stop there. He ran several more cycles to ensure absolute stability before exhaling a long, white plume of breath.
Outside, the moon hung high, casting water-like light over the courtyard. The stars twinkled in the silent sky.
It seems my limit is two pills per day, Han Yu mused. That gives me roughly sixteen days of progress every single day. At this rate, I’ll reach the Seventh Layer of Qi Refining in less than a month.
He only hoped his body wouldn’t build up resistance to the pills too quickly.
With his mind settled, Han Yu realized he had neglected his nightly ritual. He walked out to the courtyard and sat under the starlight, cultivating the Star Luo Traction Technique to condense his sixth Star Luo Thread.
Above him, the seven stars shone brightly, their rhythm mysterious and distant.
“Disciple,” a familiar voice drifted from the shadows. “Is something weighing on your mind? You are practicing the Star Luo Traction Technique much later than usual.”
Han Yu stood up and bowed. “Master. I have no troubles. I simply ran a few extra Circulation Cycles today.”
Elder Lü stepped into the light, his expression gentle but probing.
“It is good if you have no troubles,” Elder Lü said softly. “You are used to fending for yourself. Perhaps you feel the Sect’s decision to keep the Jade Spirit Berry seeds and the bulk of the pills was… unfair. Perhaps you think you should have been the one to plant them.”
The Elder sighed. “Rest assured, Wanchun Valley is not a Sect that withholds resources from its juniors out of greed. No matter what, your Master will not let you suffer a loss.”
Han Yu smiled, his expression open and sincere. “Master, truly, I have no such thoughts.”
“I am grateful for the protection and nurturing the Sect and Master have shown me. How could I harbor resentment over a few mere pills?”
Elder Lü scrutinized him. Seeing Han Yu’s natural smile and clear eyes, the old man relaxed.
“Good. You really are a good child.”
Elder Lü looked up at the moon, his tone turning reflective. “Ever since the incident with Wan Xianglin, we Elders have discussed changing our ways. We want disciples to speak their inner thoughts. It may break tradition, but it is better than letting resentment fester in the shadows until it turns into betrayal.”
“Master,” Han Yu said solemnly, “I would never betray the Sect like Wan Xianglin.”
“Naturally,” Elder Lü chuckled, patting his shoulder. “If anyone claimed otherwise, I would be the first to disagree.”
The next day, Han Yu went to the Battle Hall for his scheduled two hours of teaching.
He spotted Hua Qi training in the arena. His Senior Brother had recently acquired a white crane as a spirit beast and was eager to show it off. Han Yu called him over for a spar.
Han Yu intended to keep it light—point and stop. Unfortunately, his three crows—Big Crow, Little Crow, and the Flame Crow—were petty creatures.
Seeing Hua Qi with a new bird, the crows took it as a personal insult. They swarmed the white crane, beaks and claws flashing, beating the poor bird (and Hua Qi, who tried to protect it) into the dirt.
Han Yu watched the chaos, wincing slightly. Well… Senior Brother Hua Qi is heading out into the dangerous world soon. Consider this advance training for dealing with bullies.
Time flowed like water.
Han Yu returned to his routine. Every day, he gripped the Sunkwood Heart, swallowed the Spirit Liquid and his two replicated pills, and cultivated. In the evenings, he wove starlight into threads.
Twenty days passed in a blur.
Deacon Fang Qi and Deacon Bai Kexing departed for the Central Heaven Domain, armed with the new intelligence. The preparations for the Immortal Destiny Grand Ceremony and the annual sect competition began to buzz through the valley.
Han Yu ignored it all.
His cultivation was climbing, rising steadily day by day. He barely touched the Blood Refining Technique, focusing entirely on his Qi. His spells—the Thousand Illusions Secret Art, the Beast Heart Psychic Pact—were honed only during his shifts at the Battle Hall.
Then, the moment arrived.
Han Yu sat in his room, guiding the massive surge of Spirit Breath from the day’s pills. The energy roared through his meridians, crashing against the barrier of the next stage.
It didn’t break; it dissolved.
A profound tremor shook his core.
In his Dantian, the mystical green sprout shot up, growing thicker, taller, and more vibrant than ever before. Life force flooded his limbs. His perception of the world sharpened, colors becoming more vivid, sounds more distinct.
His lifespan extended once more.
He had crossed the threshold from the Middle Stage to the Late Stage.
Han Yu opened his eyes, a sharp light flashing within them.
Qi Refining Seventh Layer.
