Chapter 219: Is This Still Human?
Backyard of the Main Peak Hall.
Han Yu had just finished feeding the crows. As he stepped out of his room, he found Sect Leader Qi and Elder Lü standing in the courtyard.
Thanks to continuous selective breeding, along with the Spirit Stones and spirit rice provided by the Sect, the flock was thriving. Han Yu had also employed spirit beast nurturing techniques and administered Qi Refining Spirit Boosting Pills—medicine that directly enhanced Spirit Breath. As a result, the crows had successively reached the late Qi Refining stage.
The large crow, the first to reach the late stage, was now inching closer to the Foundation Establishment realm.
Whether it could successfully break through, however, remained uncertain.
A crow’s aptitude could only be verified step by step through the effects of spirit herbs. For the critical step of breaking through to the Foundation Establishment realm, Han Yu could provide ample Spirit Stones, spirit rice, and pills, but the final outcome depended on the large crow’s own innate potential.
“Sect Leader, Master.”
Han Yu bowed in greeting. Sect Leader Qi beckoned him closer and handed over three Heavenly Mechanism Spindles.
“Take a look. Will these suffice?”
Han Yu accepted them and examined them closely, gradually discerning the differences.
The Heavenly Mechanism Spindles from the Little Sky Net Sect disciples varied distinctly by realm.
Those from the Qi Refining realm required a physical medium to exist. The spindle from the Foundation Establishment cultivator, however, had begun to condense its own form, no longer relying on a physical object, though it had not yet solidified into a tangible substance like a Golden Core artifact.
Of the three spindles, one came from a Foundation Establishment cultivator, and two from Qi Refining disciples.
“Thank you, Sect Leader and Elders, for your hard work. With these, the ninth Star Luo Thread will be sufficient…”
As Han Yu spoke, he studied the spindles again.
These items were composed of individual silvery-white threads, which were in turn condensed from the owner’s Spirit Breath. While Han Yu could refine the spindles and the threads to aid his Star Luo Traction Technique, he could not directly replicate the threads themselves endlessly.
This was a regrettable limitation.
If he could, he would simply replicate the three spindles before him indefinitely, freeing himself from the need to cultivate under the starlight every night.
“There is also news you should be aware of,” Sect Leader Qi said.
He relayed the latest intelligence: the Myriad Phenomena Sect and Little Sky Net Sect viewed Han Yu as an “unactivated Demon Star,” planning to deal with the “Giant Demon Star” first before turning their attention to him.
Furthermore, the Little Sky Net Sect had misinterpreted Han Yu’s refining of Qin Ting’s Heavenly Mechanism Spindle. They believed a disciple of the Myriad Phenomena Sect was lurking within Wanchun Valley, and they were actively trying to identify this “superior sect disciple” to establish contact.
Additionally, Demonic Cultivators in the Nanli Kingdom were stirring once more.
Han Yu shook his head as he listened. “It seems I am certainly not the Demon Star they seek; they have the wrong person. And, of course, I am not a disciple of the Myriad Phenomena Sect.”
Sect Leader Qi smiled. “You are not, of course. But you could be.”
“We captured a Foundation Establishment disciple from the Myriad Phenomena Sect. He has been rambling incoherently about omens and refuses to speak plainly, making it difficult to confirm any intelligence. If you were to approach him as a fellow disciple of his sect, the situation might change.”
Han Yu’s eyes lit up with understanding, and a faint smile touched his lips. “True. I should have a proper chat with him. It would be best to learn everything about him and his sect—and ideally, take possession of his Keepsake Token and Storage Bag.”
“That way, not only can I gather intelligence for the Sect now, but in the future, should I encounter enemies, could I not pass myself off as a disciple of the Myriad Phenomena Sect?”
“I imagine the Little Sky Net Sect and the other factions of the Central Heaven Domain would never suspect that their so-called ‘Demon Star’ had transformed into a seasoned Myriad Phenomena disciple.”
Sect Leader Qi and Elder Lü’s eyes brightened.
“Excellent! That is a brilliant plan,” Elder Lü exclaimed. “Even if you don’t intend to infiltrate their sect, using that identity to bluff your way through danger is absolutely feasible!”
Sect Leader Qi nodded in agreement. “I thought your role would be limited to extracting a few scraps of information. I did not expect you to think so far ahead, Han Yu.”
“Indeed. There is no need to rush the interrogation. Take your time, build a rapport, and master his identity—his tokens, his belongings, the internal affairs of his sect. It will give you another powerful survival tool!”
After finalizing the details with the Sect Leader and his Master, Han Yu returned to his room to refine the spindles, while the two elders went to coordinate with the others.
Another day passed.
Han Yu refined the Foundation Establishment spindle and one of the Qi Refining ones, finally succeeding in condensing the ninth Star Luo Thread.
Nine threads, invisible to the naked eye. Each was agile and flexible, extending and retracting at will. They were perfect for catching enemies off guard—snatching Magical Artifacts, striking weak points, or turning an opponent’s attack against them.
In addition, Han Yu deployed the formless Heavenly Mechanism Spindle he had refined from Qin Ting. Being a Golden Core realm artifact, even with Han Yu’s crude manipulation, its power far exceeded his other offensive means.
After taking stock of his arsenal and feeding the crows as usual, Han Yu prepared to rest for a day before attempting Foundation Establishment.
His Spirit Breath, Divine Sense, physique, blood refinement, and Star Luo Threads had all reached their absolute limits.
Even the crows bound by the Beast Heart Psychic Pact required him to advance. If Han Yu did not break through, the bond would reach its capacity, preventing the large crow—or any others—from advancing to Foundation Establishment, no matter how close they were.
However, before he could begin his rest, Sect Leader Qi summoned him to the main hall to speak before the assembled elders.
“Han Yu, are you prepared?”
“I have confined the Myriad Phenomena Sect disciple in a secluded secret dungeon. You may go see him at any time.”
“If you are ready, we can help you review your approach to ensure you reveal no flaws.”
Han Yu pondered for a moment, then spoke. “Sect Leader, the target is at the Foundation Establishment realm. To ensure I reveal no flaws, shouldn’t I raise my cultivation to match his? If we are both at Foundation Establishment, I can better control the situation and extract information.”
Sect Leader Qi was stunned for a moment. He shook his head vigorously. “That will not do.”
“While the intelligence is useful, it is not worth sacrificing your future cultivation Potential by rushing your breakthrough.”
Han Yu replied calmly, “Disciple feels that my Spirit Breath, Divine Sense, and body refinement have all been cultivated to the very peak. Today, I also finished condensing the ninth Star Luo Thread. All preparations for Foundation Establishment are complete.”
“Even if the Sect Leader and Elders had not mentioned this matter, I intended to begin my breakthrough tomorrow.”
“What?!”
Sect Leader Qi shot to his feet. Elder Lü and the other elders stared at Han Yu in utter astonishment.
“How can your cultivation be so fast?” Qi demanded. “By all logic, it should take another year for your Spirit Breath to reach the limit of Perfection. Even two or three years would be normal. How is this possible?”
Han Yu glanced at the wooden root bracelet the Ancestral Tree had given him. “Perhaps it is the blessing of the Ancestral Tree. My cultivation has been exceptionally fast over the past six months.”
“That is… entirely too fast. The Ancestral Tree must truly favor you, child!”
As Sect Leader Qi spoke, he reached out and placed a hand on Han Yu’s shoulder, probing carefully with his senses.
A moment later, his expression shifted from confusion to shock.
Limit Perfection in the Qi Refining realm… and a Divine Sense condensed to this degree…
Is this even human?
