Chapter 222: Call Me Sister
Having successfully achieved Blood Refining Foundation Establishment, Han Yu focused inward, sensing the profound changes in his body. He felt more invigorated than ever before.
Sects like Wanchun Valley, Spirit Sword Sect, Mystic One Sect, and Little Sky Net Sect—regardless of their external differences—were fundamentally rooted in Qi Refining.
The Blood Refining Technique, however, was a Demonic Cultivator method, and it was entirely distinct.
Its energy did not circulate through the Meridians, but through the physical body itself. Its core was not the Dantian, but the Danzhong acupoint.
Crucially, it did not interfere with the circulation of Qi Refining cultivation.
This separation was the reason Han Yu could achieve a second Foundation Establishment via the Blood Refining Technique without forcing his other cultivation methods to advance simultaneously.
Of course, while this second breakthrough enhanced his physique and lifespan, the magnitude of improvement was inevitably less than the first. The benefits of repeated Foundation Establishment seemed to suffer diminishing returns as Han Yu himself grew stronger.
After circulating his Qi and Blood energy for two full cycles, Han Yu began to assess his new combat strength.
His original Qi Refining realm techniques, now fueled by Foundation Establishment Spiritual Energy, saw their potency multiply several times over. He could easily shatter the defenses of any Qi Refining cultivator. However, these low-level techniques were no longer practical.
He was now entering the realm of Foundation Establishment combat. He needed techniques and talismans appropriate for his new rank.
Consequently, his arsenal of Qi Refining techniques, talismans, and pills was rendered obsolete in an instant.
The Beast Heart Psychic Pact remained largely unchanged. His new Spiritual Energy merely granted him slightly firmer control over the crows, but since his command was already absolute and the flock adored him, the difference was negligible.
Activating the Green Wood Protection Technique with Spiritual Energy revealed a pleasant surprise: it required a greater influx of Wood Spirit Breath, but the defensive strength had scaled up significantly. Still, Han Yu wasn’t in a hurry to master the upgraded version; he wanted to explore the Sect’s archives for Foundation Establishment-level defensive arts first.
Similarly, the Wood Spirit Body Refining Art would likely have a Foundation Establishment counterpart he needed to study.
The Thousand Illusions Secret Art, when powered by his new energy, saw a massive spike in effectiveness—whether for concealment, transformation, or creating shadow clones. But to truly maximize its potential, he would need to learn advanced illusion techniques suited for his new realm.
Offensive arts like the Yin Style Sword Art and Soul Condensing Sword Art also became terrifyingly potent. The superior quality of his Spiritual Energy, combined with his enhanced physical reflexes, placed him in a league far above his previous self.
After testing his abilities one by one, Han Yu formed a general estimate of his power. However, without sparring against a peer, he couldn’t be certain where he stood among early Foundation Establishment cultivators.
Thinking carefully, he realized he needed to upgrade everything—techniques, talismans, pills, poisons, and even the Object Explosion Technique—before he could consider himself truly prepared.
Finally, Han Yu activated the Star Luo Traction Technique using his new Spiritual Energy.
He had saved this for last. Not only was the technique connected to the Myriad Phenomena Sect and the celestial omen of the “Demon Star,” but his first task after leaving seclusion was to confront the captured Myriad Phenomena disciple.
As he took control of the nine Star Luo Threads with his Foundation Establishment power, Han Yu suddenly sensed an anomaly within the main peak.
A distinct presence.
It was the imprisoned disciple. And the moment Han Yu sensed him, the other party sensed Han Yu in return. The mutual connection was undeniable, as glaring as two candles burning in the dead of night.
Han Yu immediately understood.
All his previous plans for disguise and persuasive rhetoric were meaningless. The prisoner would never have believed them.
But now? Even if his disguise was clumsy, the disciple would trust him implicitly.
Why? Because that mutual resonance was the ultimate proof of identity. In the eyes of the Myriad Phenomena Sect, only a fellow disciple could share such a connection.
It explained why their sect was so mysterious—observing stars, making prophecies, sensing their own kind—these were exclusive, esoteric arts they kept strictly internal.
This makes things much easier.
Having completed his assessment, Han Yu picked up the unused Foundation Establishment Pill, pushed open his door, and stepped out.
Sect Leader Qi, Elder Lü, and the other Elders were waiting in the courtyard.
Although they could have scanned him to know the result, and despite having already sensed the aura of his breakthrough, Sect Leader Qi still asked, “How did it go?”
Han Yu smiled and released a wave of Foundation Establishment Spiritual Energy. “A smooth breakthrough. The pill was not needed.”
Sect Leader Qi and Elder Lü beamed with joy.
Even though they had expected it, seeing the reality confirmed was a cause for celebration!
“Excellent! You have reached Foundation Establishment. Congratulations, Han Yu!” Elder Wen said warmly. Then she added, “According to Wanchun Valley’s rules, you are no longer a mere disciple. We can arrange a Deacon position for you immediately.”
Han Yu smiled and shook his head. “That is unnecessary.”
“I do not plan to remain in the Sect for long. I will be departing soon to travel. I cannot manage Sect affairs, so there is no need for a title. I will remain an ordinary Inner Disciple.”
At the mention of his departure, the mood among the elders dimmed.
It was infuriating that the Myriad Phenomena Sect and the other heavyweights of the Central Heaven Domain had forced such a brilliant talent to flee his own home.
Worse still, Wanchun Valley couldn’t even protest. If they publicly cleared Han Yu’s name or announced his departure, it might only invite faster disaster. If a Nascent Soul monster from the Central Heaven Domain decided to strike, Wanchun Valley would be wiped out in an instant.
Seeing the gloomy expressions of his seniors, Han Yu held out the Foundation Establishment Pill to Sect Leader Qi. “Sect Leader, please keep this pill for the other Junior Brothers. It is of no use to me now.”
In truth, he had already duplicated the pill in his Storage Bag. While he didn’t need it personally, having a spare copy might prove useful for trading or emergencies in the future.
“Strictly speaking, this is your personal property. If the Sect takes it back, we are taking advantage of you,” Sect Leader Qi remarked.
“The Sect has nurtured me with such grace,” Han Yu replied earnestly. “How could a single Foundation Establishment Pill ever repay that debt?”
The opened access to the Technique Pavilion, the formations, the talisman treasures, the help in acquiring the Qi Refining Spirit Boosting Pills, the access to the Ancestral Tree… The Sect had given him far more than the value of one pill.
He was not one to pinch pennies when debts of gratitude were involved.
If he could explain his true capabilities, he would have given even more. But for now, this was the limit of what he could safely offer.
“In that case, I will accept your kindness.” Sect Leader Qi took the pill, his expression solemn. “Han Yu, in my memory, you are the most talented Novice disciple Wanchun Valley has ever seen. To leap from Qi Refining to Foundation Establishment in just four years… it is unheard of.”
“Now, you are venturing out into the world for the sake of the Sect. The path ahead will be fraught with peril—a journey of nine deaths and one life. Your contribution cannot be measured in mere Minor or Major Merits; it is vital to the very survival of our Sect.”
“Such talent, such heart, such sacrifice—how can we not reward you heavily?”
“The Wanchun Valley Technique Pavilion holds 352 Qi Refining Jade Slips, 95 Foundation Establishment Jade Slips, and 13 Golden Core Jade Slips.”
“Han Yu, from this day forth, you may access them all. No restrictions!”
Han Yu was stunned for a moment, then bowed deeply, his voice trembling with excitement. “Thank you, Sect Leader!”
Elder Lü chuckled from the side. “Your master has accumulated some merit over the years. It should be more than enough to outfit you with a full set of Foundation Establishment Magical Artifacts, pills, talismans, and armor…”
“Nonsense,” Elder Wen interrupted with a grin. “We elders came here specifically to congratulate him; how could we show up empty-handed? Everyone will contribute. Lü Qing, you keep your pitiful little stash of merit for yourself!”
Elder Lü blinked, taken aback. Before he could protest, Han Yu had already turned and bowed respectfully to each elder in turn.
“Disciple Han Yu thanks all seniors for your generous gifts!”
“Why be so formal? You are a Foundation Establishment cultivator now. Technically, we are peers!” Elder Wen teased with a chuckle.
Han Yu shook his head gently. “In this disciple’s heart, you will always be my seniors.”
“That’s not quite right,” Elder Wen said, her eyes twinkling. “Since you have achieved Foundation Establishment… you could actually call me Sister Wen…”
The group froze. No one expected Elder Wen, with her head of white hair and revered status, to be in such a playful mood.
Elder Lü couldn’t help but sputter, “Senior Sister Wen, how is that appropriate—”
“Hmm?” Elder Wen shot him a look, her smile not quite reaching her eyes.
Elder Lü turned helplessly to Elder Yan. “Senior Brother Yan, this…”
Elder Yan was in no mood for games. He glared darkly at Han Yu.
Kid, you dare call her ‘sister’ and see what happens?
Han Yu knew a trap when he saw one. “Elder Wen” was too formal for her mood, but “Sister Wen” would offend everyone else. He wisely chose to sidestep the minefield entirely.
He cupped his hands in thanks again, then pivoted immediately. “Sect Leader, regarding the Myriad Phenomena Sect disciple… I have a plan.”
