Chapter 81: The Purple Extreme Pill Sect; The Monotonous Life of a Villain
Yan Ji departed the Immortal Gu Family holding Gu Changge’s personal token. Throughout her journey, not a single clansman dared to obstruct her path.
With Gu Changge’s status as the Young Master now firmly established, his power and influence had reached their zenith.
At first glance, the woman in the crimson dress was breathtakingly beautiful. Seeing her wield Gu Changge’s token, many clansmen immediately let their imaginations run wild regarding her relationship with the Young Master. Naturally, they dared not offend her.
Even the Clan Elders, receiving reports from their informants, chose to turn a blind eye. She was a Great Sage, after all, and not a member of the Gu Family. To track her would likely lead to discovery, and provoking Gu Changge’s ire was a risk none wished to take.
In the days that followed, Gu Changge turned his attention to other preparations. His Luck Points had stabilized, and the internal affairs of the clan were proceeding as arranged.
Then came the news: Elder Ming had returned, bringing the exiled branch of the family back to the fold.
This development sent ripples through the Gu Family.
Several Clan Elders welcomed them with genuine joy. Many ordinary clansmen, realizing that Gu Changge’s earlier proclamation wasn’t mere theatrics, felt their attitude toward him soften considerably.
During this period, Gu Changge made a brief appearance to meet the returnees. He said little. Behind the scenes, however, he instructed his trusted aides to keep a close watch on the branch’s movements.
He didn’t particularly care if they harbored thoughts of revenge, but he preferred to keep all variables under control.
When the members of the exiled branch learned that it was Gu Changge who had initiated their return—without any pressure from the Clan Elders—they were shocked.
Their emotions became incredibly complex.
This complexity deepened when they overheard several Clan Elders discussing Gu Changge, describing him as a “prodigal son who had turned back,” a young man correcting his past mistakes. The exiled members fell silent.
For the Gu Family as a whole, this reunion was undoubtedly a good thing.
But the hatred from back then… it could not be dissolved so easily.
The humiliation their branch had endured, the suffering of the past decade, and the agony of the little girl whose Dao Bone had been ruthlessly ripped from her body by Gu Changge—none of this could be washed away by a simple invitation.
Most importantly, they still did not know Gu Xianer’s whereabouts, or if she was even alive.
For the sake of the greater family, they could endure the indignity. But regarding Gu Xianer, if Gu Changge offered no explanation, they would never truly accept him.
Yet, when Gu Changge appeared, he didn’t utter a single word of apology. He didn’t explain anything. He simply stood there, his gaze sweeping over them as if counting heads, and then turned and left.
His indifference ignited a fresh wave of fury within the branch members. But what could they do? Gu Changge was the Young Master, the future of the clan. They were powerless.
However, shortly after his departure, orders came down from the Young Master’s peak.
The suppression seals placed on their bodies were removed. Their cultivation bases, stagnant or sealed for years, began to recover naturally. Furthermore, many of their uncles and elders who had been imprisoned in the dungeons were released without condition.
These actions threw their emotions into chaos once again. Their feelings fluctuated wildly, unable to decipher Gu Changge’s true intentions.
In the end, they rationalized it: He was indeed trying to ease relations. But given his arrogant personality, he likely couldn’t bring himself to lower his head and apologize… so he chose to speak through practical actions instead.
Gradually, their hostility toward Gu Changge lost its sharpest edge.
“To realize one’s errors and correct them is the greatest virtue,” they told themselves. If even someone as ruthless as Gu Changge could show repentance, perhaps he wasn’t beyond salvation.
After all, blood is thicker than water. Aside from the resentment and anger festering in their hearts, their exile hadn’t been physically torturous.
Sensing the shift in the branch’s attitude, Gu Changge was unsurprised. This was, naturally, all part of the script.
If he had apologized, removed the seals, and released the prisoners immediately, they wouldn’t have appreciated it. They would have suspected him of having ulterior motives or hiding a trap.
But by changing the tactic—refusing to apologize, letting them stew in their suspicion and anger, and then silently granting them freedom—he forced them to create their own narrative. They now believed he was genuinely repentant but too proud to admit it.
Handling the same situation with a different sequence of events yielded vastly different results.
The difference was like that between heaven and earth.
Gu Changge didn’t consider his methods particularly brilliant; he simply knew exactly where to press to manipulate human nature.
With the family matters settled, he began making arrangements for his own people.
Su Qingge and Lin Qiuhan had followed him from the Lower Realm, and he needed to settle them properly. Having witnessed the grandeur of the Immortal Gu Family, they were unlikely to be bullied by other sects, but their placements needed to suit their talents.
Su Qingge was intelligent and sharp; she would thrive anywhere.
Lin Qiuhan, however, had a gentle personality and was pitifully naive. Gu Changge suspected she wouldn’t survive three days alone in the cutthroat world of cultivation.
However, she possessed a terrifying talent for Alchemy. If sent to a major Alchemy Sect, the elders there would fight over the chance to take her as a disciple. She would be pampered and protected, suffering no grievances.
Gu Changge didn’t dwell on it for long.
First, he took some time to escort Su Qingge to the Absolute Beginning Divine Sect to visit his mother.
The Absolute Beginning Divine Sect.
Located in the Brahmaloka of the Inner Domain, this was an ancient force with a history stretching back eons. Its territory was vast, its borders nearly impossible to map.
Due to their somewhat unscrupulous methods and domineering style, many forces privately referred to them as the “Demon Sect.”
Of course, in recent years, the situation had improved. Through the tireless efforts of the disciples and Elders, the “Demon Sect” had managed to rebrand itself, appearing slightly more righteous and proper.
But a leopard cannot change its spots. It was difficult to conceal the sect’s true nature.
When other orthodox forces passed through the Brahmaloka, they still tread carefully, fearing they might be robbed or extorted by the “reformed” disciples.
Gu Changge, however, faced no such issues. As the son of the previous Holy Maiden of the Absolute Beginning Divine Sect and the Young Master of the Immortal Gu Family, he arrived unimpeded.
He soon found his mother, who was in the midst of her cultivation.
The two began to chat…
