Chapter 118: Always Behind the Scenes; Gu Changge Is Too Terrifying

The night wind was cold, and the mottled moonlight cast eerie shadows through the bamboo grove.

Bai Lie stood frozen, his mind blank. It felt as if someone had pried open his skull and poured in a bucket of ice water.

Just moments ago, he had clung to a sliver of hope, thinking Yin Mei was joking.

But now, seeing his sworn enemy, Gu Changge, sitting there casually, drinking the wine meant for him… the reality crashed down.

From the very beginning, he had been played. Yin Mei had treated him like a monkey in a circus.

“Gu… Changge…”

Bai Lie trembled, his eyes turning bloodshot. A terrifying killing intent erupted from him, and the character ‘King’ (王) on his forehead blazed with light. Behind him, the phantom of a massive White Tiger roared silently in the void.

He wasn’t stupid. He had just been blinded by love. Now that the veil was lifted, the humiliation was unbearable.

“You…” He glared at the couple, his eyes threatening to split from rage.

Gu Changge didn’t even look at him. He swirled his cup, smiling faintly.

“Brother Bai, you won’t drink? Are you looking down on me?”

The moonlight fell on Gu Changge’s flawless face, making him look like a jade deity—serene, noble, and utterly detached from the filth of the world.

This calmness only made Bai Lie’s heart sink deeper into the abyss.

“Yin Mei, pour him a cup,” Gu Changge said lazily. “He ran all this way in the middle of the night. It must have been hard on him.”

“Yes, Master.”

Yin Mei walked over, her hips swaying. She stopped in front of the stiff, furious Bai Lie and filled his cup.

“Master bestows wine,” she said, her voice dripping with cold disdain. “Aren’t you going to thank him?”

The tenderness she had shown him before was gone, replaced by naked disgust.

“You have such a cruel heart!” Bai Lie roared, though the sound was swallowed by the arrays sealing the courtyard. “I treated you with respect! Why are you doing this to me?!”

Yin Mei didn’t answer. She didn’t need to.

Hum!

The arrays around the courtyard activated fully. Layers of chaotic mist rose, sealing the space and isolating them from the world.

Bai Lie’s blood ran cold.

He was alone. He had sent all his protectors away to hunt Ye Ling. He had walked into this trap voluntarily, guided by Yin Mei’s lies.

“It was all a setup,” he whispered, horror dawning on him. “You sowed discord between me and Ye Ling… you made me isolate myself… just for this moment?”

He looked at Yin Mei, then at Gu Changge.

“Gu Changge! You’ve been controlling everything from the start! Yin Mei was yours all along!”

“Smart,” Gu Changge chuckled, taking the refilled cup from Yin Mei. “It took you long enough.”

“Why?!” Bai Lie screamed. “What did he give you? If he threatened you, tell me! I can help you!”

“Stupid,” Yin Mei sneered. “Master is not someone you can compare to. You aren’t even fit to carry his shoes.”

Bai Lie felt like his heart was being torn apart. The woman he loved looked at him like he was garbage, while looking at Gu Changge with adoration.

“Gu Changge…”

Bai Lie’s soul shivered.

This man wasn’t just a Young Supreme. He was a mastermind, a shadow emperor pulling the strings of the world. How long had this been going on? Did the Daootian Immortal Palace know? Did the world know?

“Since you figured it out,” Gu Changge said, sipping his wine, “drink up. The road to the Yellow Springs is long. You’ll need the strength.”

“You… you want to kill me?”

Bai Lie couldn’t believe it. He was the Young Master of the White Tiger Clan! Killing him would start a war!

“Don’t be naive, Brother Bai,” Gu Changge smiled, but his eyes were devoid of warmth. “If I wasn’t going to kill you, why would I invite you here? For a midnight chat?”

Hum!

Gu Changge flicked his wrist.

The white jade cup in his hand shot out. It exploded into a bloom of divine light, transforming into a dazzling, demonic flower that rooted itself in the void.

Pfft!

Bai Lie didn’t even have time to react.

The flower smashed into his chest, shattering his defense. The White Tiger phantom behind him disintegrated into ash.

“ARGH!”

Bai Lie screamed as the flower took root in his flesh, its roots burrowing deep into his soul. The pain was excruciating.

He was a Conferred King Realm cultivator, a genius of his generation. But against Gu Changge? He was nothing.

“Your strength…” Bai Lie coughed blood, his eyes wide with terror. “You aren’t in the Conferred King Realm… what are you hiding?!”

Gu Changge didn’t answer. He stared at the dark golden runes floating in Bai Lie’s blood.

“Geng Metal Origin,” he mused, satisfied. “Wasted on you.”

“I’ll fight you to the death!”

Bai Lie roared, burning his blood essence. He summoned a golden page—a life-saving artifact from his clan—which transformed into a majestic White Tiger that filled the sky.

“Kill!”

He charged, intending to detonate the artifact and take Gu Changge with him.

Suddenly, the world went dark.

A pitch-black halberd appeared in Gu Changge’s hand. The Eight Desolate Demon Halberd.

He didn’t move. He simply swung.

Slash.

The golden page shattered. The White Tiger phantom evaporated. The terrifying attack was erased from existence as if it never was.

“You… you are a Heavenly God…”

Bai Lie stared at him, despair filling his eyes.

Gu Changge stepped forward, his hand shooting out to grab Bai Lie by the throat.

“Resistance is futile,” he whispered. “Just accept your fate.”
