Chapter 93: Young Supreme Chu Wuji; Allow Your Brother to Vet Him for You
Chu Wuji stood tall and imposing, clad in radiant golden armor that seemed to shimmer with divine light. He wore a bright, refreshing smile, exuding an aura of uprightness and integrity that easily garnered goodwill.
Upon arriving at the peak, his gaze immediately landed on Gu Xianer. A flash of genuine astonishment flickered in his eyes.
He had seen countless women of peerless beauty, yet her presence still surprised him for a fleeting moment. However, his impeccable upbringing and deep scheming ensured that no improper expression lingered on his face.
“Greetings, Grand Elder.”
Chu Wuji turned and bowed slightly, offering a respectful salute.
Even within the Daootian Immortal Palace, few knew that Chu Wuji was actually the Grand Elder’s grand-disciple. His father, the Emperor of the Great Chu Immortal Dynasty, had once been a nominal disciple of the Grand Elder. Due to his status as an Emperor, he could not become an inner-chamber disciple, a secret known only to a select few.
“Chu Wuji. You’ve arrived just in time,” the Grand Elder nodded, his attitude towards him relatively approving.
To the Elders of the Daootian Immortal Palace, Chu Wuji was a model disciple. Whether in conduct, social maneuvering, or cultivation talent, he was steady and outstanding, with few discernible flaws.
More importantly, he did not harbor the same impure, predatory motives as Gu Changge.
Among the current True Disciples, Chu Wuji was the only one capable of contending with Gu Changge. Many Elders held him in high regard, believing he could shoulder the sect’s heavy responsibilities.
Gu Xianer quietly sized him up. As a Young Supreme who rivaled Gu Changge, he naturally sparked her curiosity.
He carried himself with an imperial bearing, his steps steady and majestic like a dragon or tiger. His cultivation was profound and obscured, making it difficult for her to gauge his true depth.
“This must be the Junior Sister who has been causing such a stir recently?”
Chu Wuji turned his smile toward Gu Xianer, cupping his hands politely. “Seeing you in person confirms that the rumors were not exaggerated. You truly possess divine bones and an immortal grace. Outstanding.”
“Greetings, Senior Brother Wuji.”
Gu Xianer nodded, her expression calm. However, she couldn’t fathom the motive behind his sudden friendliness.
She was a newcomer. The Grand Elder hadn’t even officially accepted her as a disciple yet. In terms of status, she was currently lower than an ordinary disciple. Why would a high-ranking True Disciple like Chu Wuji lower himself to show goodwill?
Could it be because of Gu Changge?
The enemy of my enemy is my friend?
“I was just considering who should escort Xianer to the Road of Heavenly Dao,” the Grand Elder said indifferently. “Chu Wuji, since you are here, you shall take her.”
“The Road of Heavenly Dao?”
Chu Wuji paused, feigning surprise. “It seems Junior Sister has lofty ambitions. However, the Road of Heavenly Dao is perilous. If one forces their way through, it can cause unimaginable harm—damaging the Dao Heart or even permanently halting one’s cultivation.”
He looked at her with concern. “Junior Sister, have you thought this through clearly?”
In truth, Chu Wuji had come here specifically for Gu Xianer. He had already gathered intelligence on her. To be blunt, Gu Xianer held evidence that could shatter the Immortal Gu Family’s reputation.
If that evidence were made public, the Immortal Gu Family would become the laughingstock of the Upper Realm.
An old Imperial Ancestor of the Great Chu Immortal Dynasty had once been severely injured by the Immortal Gu Family, leaving Chu Wuji with zero goodwill toward them. He would love nothing more than to see them humiliated.
But in front of the Grand Elder, he had to play the role of the caring Senior Brother.
The Grand Elder glanced at him, shaking his head inwardly, but remained silent.
“I am confident,” Gu Xianer replied calmly. “There is no need for Senior Brother Wuji to worry.”
“Very well. Then this Senior Brother shall wait and see.”
Chu Wuji maintained his hearty, unconcerned facade, but inwardly he sneered. He was curious to see just how far this so-called ‘Nirvana Young Supreme’ could go.
He transformed into a divine rainbow, leading the way. “Follow me.”
Gu Xianer followed closely. Her intuition—which had been honed to a razor’s edge over the years—screamed that Chu Wuji had ulterior motives.
“Master!”
Soon, a group of Chu Wuji’s followers appeared ahead. They glanced at Gu Xianer with surprise.
“To the Road of Heavenly Dao,” Chu Wuji ordered.
As they flew, he didn’t forget to turn back and sigh, his voice heavy with regret and righteous indignation.
“Junior Sister, I actually know quite a bit about your past. Gu Changge is truly ruthless and vicious. His actions are shocking and chilling—completely devoid of the affection a brother should have. Even wild beasts would not prey on their own kin like he did…”
Trailing behind him, Gu Xianer frowned. She remained silent.
She knew he was cursing Gu Changge, aligning with her own hatred. Yet, for some reason, she felt a wave of discomfort.
Gu Changge had indeed been cruel to her. But he wasn’t this kind of petty, tongue-wagging hypocrite.
Gu Changge’s methods were ruthless, but they were open. He was an unapologetic villain. Chu Wuji, on the other hand, felt like a snake hiding in the grass, gossiping behind someone’s back to curry favor.
It was her business with Gu Changge. She didn’t need outsiders interjecting.
“Senior Brother Wuji, you should focus on leading the way,” Gu Xianer said, her face expressionless. “I didn’t expect a True Disciple to gossip about others behind their backs like this.”
The implication was clear: If you have the spine, say it to his face. What’s the use of performing for me?
She saw right through him. This so-called True Disciple just wanted to pull her into his camp to use as a weapon against Gu Changge.
Chu Wuji’s expression stiffened. A faint shadow of ugliness passed over his face before he quickly recovered his mask of indifference.
But inside, rage bubbled.
Was she mocking me? Suggesting I don’t dare to challenge Gu Changge to his face?
A mere yellow-haired girl, only at the Holy Lord Realm, dared to speak to him like this? If not for the Grand Elder backing her, he would have taught her a lesson right there about the hierarchy of the Daootian Immortal Palace.
He was also confused. According to his intel, the hatred between Gu Xianer and Gu Changge was deep. Why would she defend him?
News traveled fast.
The entire Daootian Immortal Palace was soon in an uproar. The girl in green accompanying the Grand Elder was going to challenge the Road of Heavenly Dao—and she intended to break Gu Changge’s record.
The rumor, naturally leaked by Chu Wuji, caused a massive sensation. Several other True Disciples even emerged from seclusion to witness the spectacle.
The girl’s identity was mysterious, rumored to be from the Immortal Gu Family, and the Grand Elder favored her heavily. Not just disciples, but even many Elders were curious enough to attend.
In the Daootian Immortal Palace, the Road of Heavenly Dao held immense significance. It was the ultimate test of potential, a springboard for a carp to transform into a dragon. For a genius, every step taken on that road was a testament to their future achievements.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Divine rainbows streaked across the sky. Magical artifacts glowed as they cut through the clouds.
Crowds of disciples flocked to the area, filling the nearby peaks.
“The record for the last 100,000 years was set by True Disciple Gu. No one has been able to surpass him.”
“He has the potential of a True Immortal, after all. I heard he recently broke through to the Conferred King Realm.”
“That cultivation speed is terrifying. No one else in our generation has touched the Conferred King Realm yet. Even True Disciple Chu seems stuck at the bottleneck.”
“Breaking True Disciple Gu’s record? I think that girl is just daydreaming…”
Discussions buzzed on every peak.
The Road of Heavenly Dao was a magnificent staircase of white jade, shrouded in immortal mist. It spiraled upward into the heavens, its end lost to sight.
Every step was interwoven with ancient Dao patterns. As a prodigy ascended, the pressure would mount, and different phenomena would manifest to reflect their talent.
Every 100,000 years, the road would manifest to test a new generation. All geniuses wanted to leave their footprints there, to carve their names into history.
And in this era, only one sun hung in the sky: Gu Changge.
His brilliance suppressed an entire generation.
Beneath the jade steps, a sea of cultivators gathered. Gu Xianer stood before them, her green robes fluttering, her figure looking slender and solitary against the massive monument.
“Junior Sister, don’t force yourself,” Chu Wuji advised loudly, wearing a look of benevolent concern. “The pressure on the Road of Heavenly Dao is immense…”
Gu Xianer glanced at him, her expression unmoved. She didn’t speak.
In such a short time, the whole sect knew. Chu Wuji had clearly spread the news to set the stage for her public humiliation. Such petty schemes couldn’t fool her.
“It has only been a few days, and Xianer already has a suitor? How about letting your brother vet him for you first?”
A light, teasing laugh suddenly cut through the air.
Gu Xianer’s calm mask shattered. She whipped her head around, her eyes turning icy as she looked toward the source of the voice.
Gu Changge walked slowly through the crowd.
He was dressed in robes whiter than snow, spotless and ethereal. A faint smile played on his lips. Behind him trailed a large entourage of powerful followers. The surrounding disciples, their faces changing in shock and awe, hastily parted to form a path.
He had just returned from the Daootian Ancient City. He hadn’t expected to stumble upon Gu Xianer challenging the Road, but it piqued his interest immediately.
“Giggle… so this little sister is the disciple the Grand Elder plans to accept? Truly a rare beauty in the making. What a calamity she’ll be when she grows up.”
From another direction, a sultry laugh echoed.
A peerless woman appeared, her face veiled in white gauze. Behind her, several fluffy fox tails swayed, carefully held by her maids to keep them from dragging on the ground.
It was Yin Mei, another True Disciple. To the outside world, she and Gu Changge were merely colleagues. No one knew she was his creature.
Having received ample resources and a few extra antidotes—courtesy of Gu Changge’s fondness for her tails—she was in high spirits.
Hiss!
“This matter actually drew out True Disciple Gu!”
“Even the mysterious True Disciple Yin is here! I didn’t expect this.”
“It seems we’re in for a good show.”
On the peaks, the shock was palpable. Gu Changge was usually like a divine dragon—one saw the head but never the tail. For him to appear in person was a rare event.
