Chapter 74: The Mysterious Peach Village
The [Land of Abandoned Immortals] had many names in the Upper Realm. The Cursed Land. The Desolate Land. The Grave of Gods.
In short, it was an ominous place. Few cultivators dared to tread there.
Although Fated Chances occasionally appeared, illuminating the sky with auspicious light, the dangers hidden in the boundless mountain ranges far outweighed the rewards. Without [Heavenly God Realm] cultivation, attempting to cross this region alone was suicide.
Yet, deep within this terrifying zone lay a small village that seemed untouched by the horrors outside.
It was a paradise, protected by a towering, ancient Peach Tree.
This was [Peach Village].
And its inhabitants were… strange.
[Gu Xianer] stood beneath the Peach Tree. She wore a simple green dress that accentuated her slender figure. Her face was exquisite and flawless, yet her eyes held a sharp, heroic spirit.
She had come to say goodbye.
The Peach Tree was the village’s Guardian Spirit. Even her eccentric, mysterious Masters treated it with utmost respect.
But to Gu Xianer, the tree was family. When she was young, weak, and dying from the loss of her Dao Bone, the Peach Tree had healed her with its essence. It was both a teacher and a sister to her.
“Are you sure you want to go?”
The branches rustled, and a gentle, melodious female voice echoed from the leaves.
“Your cultivation is only at the [Holy Lord Realm]. In the outside world, that isn’t considered strong. The heirs of the Supreme Orthodoxies and Immortal Sects are all more powerful than you.”
Gu Xianer nodded firmly. “Sister [Peach Demon], I have to leave. I need to find my grandfather, my parents, and the rest of my lineage…”
“It’s been so many years. I don’t know how they are living. They’ve probably been suppressed by my Uncle’s faction, exiled to the fringes, their glory stripped away.”
Anger flashed in her eyes.
She knew what exile meant for a Longevity Family branch. They wouldn’t be starving peasants, but they would be removed from the center of power, forced to live in the shadow of their former selves.
Her goal wasn’t just revenge. It was restoration. She wanted to rebuild her lineage’s glory—and make her Uncle’s faction taste the same despair they had inflicted on her.
“And of course…” Gu Xianer’s voice dropped, ice creeping into her tone. “There is my dear older brother.”
The memory of the surgery surfaced. The pain. The betrayal.
He had been so young, yet his heart was so vicious. She had adored him. She had followed him everywhere like a shadow. And in return, he had ripped the bone from her chest.
Every time she thought of him, hatred burned in her veins.
“That grudge is between you and him,” the Peach Demon said softly. “You must rely on yourself to settle it.”
“I know,” Gu Xianer said. “This is a private matter of the Gu Family. My Masters and you cannot interfere.”
“Good. But rest assured… although there are many strong individuals in the Upper Realm, the truly powerful ones will not dare to touch you.”
“Your Masters may be eccentric, but few in this world have the guts to provoke them.”
The Peach Demon didn’t mention herself, but the implication was clear. Her origins were even more terrifying than the old monsters in the village.
“I know. Masters have been good to me,” Gu Xianer smiled, warmth flooding her heart. “Compared to that cold-blooded brother of mine, they taught me what it means to be human.”
“Take this,” the Peach Demon said.
A single peach blossom drifted down from the canopy. It had seven petals, each carved from immortal jade, glowing with mysterious Dao rhymes.
“If you are in critical danger, use it. If anyone out there still recognizes me… they won’t make things difficult for you.”
“Thank you, Sister.” Gu Xianer accepted the flower reverently.
She turned to leave, her gaze fixed on the distant horizon.
“Before I left… First Master gave me a knife. He said if I can’t beat my brother, I should just stab him.”
“Second Master gave me a rope. He said it can bind anything…”
“Third Master…”
Gu Xianer knelt at the village entrance and kowtowed three times.
“I will come back to see you all after I resolve my matters.”
With that, she summoned a terrifying crimson bird—a beast she had tamed in the mountains—and soared into the sky, followed by the old servant who had saved her years ago.
At the village entrance, her Masters finally appeared to watch her go.
They were a motley crew. A blind man, a deaf man, a cripple with no legs, a woman with no arms…
At their level of cultivation, regenerating limbs should have been trivial. Yet they remained broken.
Whether by choice or by curse, no one knew. But if they ever stepped out of the Land of Abandoned Immortals, the Upper Realm would tremble.
“The girl we raised for ten years… just ran off like that,” the Blind Man sighed. “Who knows when she’ll be back?”
“This is her karma,” the Cripple said. “We can’t interfere. I just worry… Xianer is too kind. Too pure. She’s going to suffer losses against someone like Gu Changge.”
“Kindness isn’t a weakness!” the Armless Woman snapped. “She is a Darling of the Dao. She was born to be loved by the heavens. It’s a tragedy she has to carry such hatred.”
“That brother of hers… he’s a character,” the Deaf Man grunted (reading lips). “So young, yet so cruel. How did the Gu Family produce such a monster?”
They bickered like worried parents watching their child go to college.
“I’m just afraid she’ll come back with a man,” the Blind Man muttered, clutching his cane. “If she does, I might not be able to resist chopping him up.”
“I divined it,” the Deaf Man said. “It’s… uncertain.”
The Blind Man suddenly felt a phantom pain in his nonexistent eyes.
…
Upper Realm, Outer Domain. Xiling Province.
The Upper Realm was vast, divided into Inner, Central, and Outer Domains. The hierarchy was strict. The Inner Domain was the playground of the Immortal Sects. The Outer Domain was the frontier, bordering the chaotic void of the Lower Realms.
It was here that most Ascenders arrived, often to be snatched up by local powers as miners or disciples.
High above Xiling Province, space blurred.
[Elder Ming] stepped out of the void.
“According to the Young Lord’s intelligence, the exiled Gu lineage settled here in Xiling…”
He expanded his senses, scanning the millions of miles of territory below.
He didn’t bother to hide his aura.
Boom!
The terrifying pressure of a [God King] descended like a physical weight.
In the cities below, [Heavenly God] ancestors woke from their seclusion in terror. Countless cultivators fell to their knees, trembling.
“A God King? Here? Why?”
“What kind of existence has descended upon us?”
In the Outer Domain, a Heavenly God was an overlord. A God King was a myth. A being of this level could erase a city with a thought.
Soon, a group of local Heavenly Gods flew up, bowing deeply in the sky.
“Dare we ask, Your Excellency… what brings you to our humble province?”
“I am here on the orders of my Young Lord,” Elder Ming said indifferently, his voice booming like thunder. “I am looking for clansmen with the surname [Gu]. Do you know where they are?”
“Surname Gu…”
In a massive city below, Gu Xianer froze.
She had just arrived. She hadn’t even started looking for her family yet.
Young Lord?
Surname Gu?
Her eyes narrowed, a cold light flickering in their depths.
“It really is my dear older brother.”
“Miss…” Her old servant paled. “This aura… it’s a God King.”
“Why?” Gu Xianer thought, her mind racing. “I just left the Land of Abandoned Immortals. How did he find me so fast?”
She glanced at the little red bird on her shoulder. It was a powerful beast, but against a God King? And her servant was only a Void God.
Do I have to use the Masters’ gifts already?
Gu Xianer decided to stay put.
“Let’s see what tricks he’s playing.”
