Chapter 69: A Single Glance Ruined a Lifetime
“Changge, you truly have a ruthless heart…”
“I never imagined the one who would kill me in the end would be you. The person I loved most, and hated most… was you.”
Yue Mingkong gazed at the empty divine hall, murmuring softly as she closed her eyes.
A hint of moisture gathered at the corners of her eyes, but it vanished as quickly as it appeared. When she opened them again, they were pools of glacial indifference.
Her voice was calm, forcibly soothing the turbulence in her heart. This heart had ached for six months. She was used to it now.
Yue Mingkong didn’t know why she had been sent back three thousand years.
Six months had passed since her rebirth. Yet, the memory of her wedding day with Gu Changge still played in her mind like a recurring nightmare.
The resonance of the realms. The heavenly music. Golden lotuses blooming from the earth.
She had worn her red wedding dress, shy and trembling with joy. He had been majestic, the most handsome man in the world, peerless and perfect.
On their wedding night, she had raised her cup, and he had smiled.
She thought her waiting was over. She had helped him build the world’s first Immortal Dynasty. She had nearly severed ties with her father for him. She had washed away the stain of the Immortal Devouring Demonic Art from his name.
She thought she had finally earned her happy ending.
But after waiting three thousand years for that night, all she received was a cold, mocking stare.
Then, boundless darkness and heart-wrenching pain.
She finally realized the truth: the man she loved had never cared for her. Not once.
Everything he did was for profit. Even the attack on her was a calculated move—a “bitter flesh” strategem to clear his name and dump the black pot of the Demonic Art onto her head.
And she had trusted him. She had never even suspected him.
Yue Mingkong wanted to scream at her past self. You fool. She had been played like a fiddle by his hypocritical mask.
A man like Gu Changge didn’t have a heart.
“Should I call you Gu Changge, or Gu Heartless?” she whispered. “Cold, ruthless, unfeeling. I waited three thousand years, and it didn’t buy me a single moment of mercy.”
“Since the Heavens gave me another chance, I will not repeat the same mistakes.”
Her expression hardened. She had matured. In her past life, at this age, she was naive and childish, obsessed with him. She had been a disgrace to her father.
But now? In just six months, she had crushed every competitor in the royal family. Even her eldest brother had fallen to her today.
Her methods were thunderous, breaking every record in the dynasty’s history. Even the Emperor, who had once despaired of her, now praised her endlessly.
This was the advantage of rebirth. She knew every move before it happened. Her schemes were flawless.
“In the end, I was just a tool to you. A final pawn to clear your name…”
“In this life, Gu Changge, you will not have your way. I will take everything from you. I will make you experience everything I suffered…”
She paused, a bitter smile touching her lips.
“No. You have no heart. You can’t experience my pain. A pity… otherwise, I would have made you fall in love with me, only to kill you with my own hands.”
“Now, it seems I can only destroy your world. I will strip you of your power and keep you by my side. For you, living a life worse than death is the only true torture… hehe…”
Yue Mingkong stood with her hands behind her back, her golden imperial robes fluttering. She looked toward the east.
Toward the Immortal Gu Family.
She knew he had returned from the Lower Realm. She knew he had obtained what he wanted.
She also knew that soon, her father would take her to the Gu Family to discuss the marriage alliance.
The union of the Unrivaled Celestial Dynasty and the Immortal Gu Family. The Fourth Princess and the Young Lord. It was an event that would shake the Upper Realm.
Her father wanted to use the Gu Family’s influence to annex a rival dynasty. The Gu Family was unique; no force had ever taken advantage of them. Even the Unrivaled Celestial Dynasty, the nominal ruler of the Upper Realm, had to tread carefully.
In her past life, she hadn’t understood the politics. She was just a talented but mediocre princess.
Now, she understood why the Gu Family agreed. Her father had secretly promised them massive benefits, and she was the bargaining chip.
She remembered the first time she saw him. She was young. Gu Changge was cultivating on a bluestone, bathed in morning mist and Dao runes. He looked like a young god.
She had fallen in love instantly.
Little did she know, that single glance would ruin her entire life.
“Fortunately, it’s not too late. We will meet again soon, Gu Changge…”
Yue Mingkong closed her eyes.
She held his greatest weakness.
The identity of the Immortal Devouring Demonic Art inheritor.
Once exposed, the entire world would become his enemy. That wasn’t an exaggeration. He would be hunted by every sect and family in existence.
But she also knew that without proof, no one would believe her. Gu Changge was too cautious.
And deep down… she didn’t want to do it.
A situation where the whole world was his enemy…
Yue Mingkong sighed.
Even after rebirth, her heart was still too soft. She still loved him too much.
“No,” she shook her head violently. “How could I still love him? I simply disdain using such despicable means. If I am to destroy him, I will do it openly. I will take everything he has, fair and square…”
…
The Immortal Gu Family.
“Greetings, Young Lord!”
“The Young Lord has returned!”
The Reception Divine Hall traversed the void, passing through layers of teleportation arrays before finally arriving at the mountain gate.
Thousands of disciples bowed in unison, their voices thundering with reverence.
Gu Changge nodded slightly.
Before him floated a sea of divine islands and immortal mountains. Billions of them, suspended in the sky, shrouded in auspicious clouds and radiant light. The protective array hummed with terrifying power, resonating with the sun and moon.
Even a God King would have to stop before this pressure.
“Is this… the foundation of an Immortal Family?”
Lin Qiuhan and Su Qingge felt their minds go blank.
They had been numb from shock on the journey, but this? This wasn’t a clan territory. It was a universe unto itself.
“Let’s go,” Gu Changge said.
He wanted them to see the world. Especially Lin Qiuhan. He intended to send her to a major Alchemy Sect, and while his name would protect her, she needed to understand the scale of the world she was entering.
“Elder Ming,” Gu Changge instructed. “Arrange their quarters in the Outer Islands.”
The Gu Family’s rules were strict. Only direct lineage could live in the Inner Islands. Until their identities were processed, the girls had to stay outside.
“Yes, Young Lord.”
Gu Changge transformed into a stream of light, shooting toward the center of the formation. He needed to speak with his father. Some schemes required family support.
“The Young Lord has gone to the Inner Islands,” Elder Ming told the awestruck women. “I will take you to your quarters. Remember the rules. Do not shame the Young Lord.”
“You can now say you have seen the Immortal Gu Family. Try not to look so startled by everything.”
Su Qingge recovered quickly, her mental fortitude strong. Lin Qiuhan, however, nodded like a chicken pecking rice. “Understood, Ancestor.”
Elder Ming paled. “Don’t call me Ancestor here! Just keep it in your heart.”
The class distinctions in the Gu Family were absolute. If Lin Qiuhan rose in status through Gu Changge, Elder Ming might one day have to bow to her. Being called “Ancestor” could get him punished for disrespect.
Lin Qiuhan didn’t understand, but she obeyed.
As they flew through the islands, her eyes were dazzled. Palaces floated on clouds. Waterfalls fell from the sky like silk ribbons. Ancient beasts the size of mountains roamed the forests, their blood energy obscuring the sun.
The Spiritual Qi was so dense it almost liquefied into rain.
Elder Ming smiled at their reactions. He remembered his first time, tens of thousands of years ago.
Compared to this, their Lower Realm sects were doghouses.
“This is just the Outer Islands,” Elder Ming said, a hint of envy in his voice. “The Inner Islands… that is the true Immortal Realm. Even I don’t have the qualifications to enter.”
“Of course, you two…”
He trailed off, looking at them with a mix of jealousy and hope.
Meanwhile, Gu Changge passed through the internal arrays and landed on the central island.
A magnificent palace opened before him.
“Changge has returned?”
A gentle, middle-aged voice echoed from within.
