Chapter 119: The Final Light and Heat; Why Does It Feel a Bit Yandere?
“Why… why are you so strong? How is this possible…”
Bai Lie’s face was ashen, drained of all color.
He was a burly man, towering over Gu Changge, yet he was currently being lifted by the throat like a helpless chick.
Despair consumed him.
His strongest life-saving trump card—the golden page containing the power of an Ancestor, meant only for life-or-death crises—had been shattered by a single swing of Gu Changge’s halberd.
That pitch-black weapon, wreathed in monstrous demonic energy, was far beyond a Saint Artifact. It was a weapon of supreme slaughter.
“A pity,” Gu Changge shook his head, though his face showed zero regret. “Wasting such a precious item on a dead man.”
“What… what is that?!”
Suddenly, Bai Lie screamed in terror. His eyes bulged as if he were staring into the abyss itself.
Hum!
A bizarre, demonic flower bloomed from his chest, rooting itself deep into his flesh. It glowed with eerie light, siphoning his essence.
Gu Changge watched calmly as the flower matured, transforming into a pitch-black Great Dao Treasure Vase.
Inside the vase, a rich, metallic aura swirled—the Geng Metal Origin.
A black hole manifested in Gu Changge’s palm. He reached out, plucked the Origin, and absorbed it instantly.
The night wind blew. Gu Changge stood motionless, savoring the influx of power.
“The taste of Geng Metal… not bad,” he murmured, eyes half-closed. “It contains endless variations of sharpness. Truly worthy of being a top-three offensive power.”
“Congratulations, Master,” Yin Mei bowed deeply, her voice trembling with reverence and fear.
Witnessing this scene cemented her submission. Gu Changge was not just powerful; he was a predator who consumed the essence of others. To betray him was to invite a fate worse than death.
Gu Changge nodded, then glanced at the Eight Desolate Demon Halberd in his hand.
“I can’t let you kill him,” he chuckled softly. “Leaving the wrong kind of wounds would be problematic.”
The Halberd vibrated, emitting a wave of joyous, bloodthirsty emotion. It had been locked away in his Weapon Space for too long. Even smashing a golden page was better than nothing.
Gu Changge comforted the weapon briefly before sending it back into storage.
“Master,” Yin Mei asked, looking at the corpse. “How should we handle the body?”
Previously, she had been responsible for disposing of the husks left behind by his cultivation.
“Bai Lie’s corpse cannot be destroyed,” Gu Changge smiled.
He waved his hand, dismissing the arrays around the courtyard. Moonlight flooded back in, cold and pale.
“If we destroy the body, how can we pin the blame on Ye Ling?”
“Discerning old monsters will be able to tell exactly how he died. And when they do… Ye Ling won’t be able to wash himself clean, even if he jumps into the Yellow River.”
With a thought, Gu Changge stored Bai Lie’s corpse in his Inner World. It still had one final use.
Later.
“Farewell, Master.”
Yin Mei watched Gu Changge vanish into the night.
She immediately set to work, erasing all traces of his presence. She was efficient, practiced. Once the scene was clean, she sat down and waited.
Bai Lie was missing. His protectors would come looking soon.
It was time for another performance.
Unless someone performed a Soul Search on her, the truth would never be known. And as the Heavenly Maiden of the Nine-Tailed Fox Clan, who would dare Soul Search her?
Yin Mei sat calmly, combing her tails. She remembered how Gu Changge liked to play with them. At first, it was humiliating. Now… she was used to it.
Whoosh!
Several powerful auras descended outside the mansion.
Yin Mei’s lips curled into a strange smile before instantly rearranging her face into an expression of annoyance and fatigue.
“Greetings, Heavenly Maiden Yin Mei,” a rough voice called out. “Have you seen our Young Master?”
It was Bai Lie’s head protector, a middle-aged Saint Realm expert with white tiger features. Behind him stood Bai Lie’s anxious followers.
Yin Mei opened the door, looking confused.
“Bai Lie? He was here earlier,” she said, frowning. “But didn’t he say he was going to settle accounts with Ye Ling?”
“So he really went to find Ye Ling…” The protector’s face darkened.
He trusted Yin Mei. He had seen her interactions with Bai Lie; she was dignified, gentle, and had even protected Bai Lie’s reputation earlier that evening. Why would she lie?
“What happened?” Yin Mei asked, feigning concern.
“Young Master is missing,” the protector said grimly. “We went to Ye Ling’s residence, but he was gone too. There were signs of a struggle… We fear Ye Ling might have attacked him.”
“Missing?” Yin Mei gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. “But… Bai Lie has so many artifacts. Surely he is fine?”
“Ye Ling’s methods are strange,” the protector sighed. “We searched the whole city. Nothing. Sorry to disturb you, Heavenly Maiden.”
“Please, if you find him, let me know immediately,” Yin Mei said anxiously.
“We will.”
The group left in a hurry.
As soon as they were gone, the worry vanished from Yin Mei’s face. A cold sneer replaced it.
“By the time you find him,” she whispered, “he will already be a cold corpse.”
“Master truly foresees everything.”
Gu Changge’s Courtyard.
Yue Mingkong stood in the garden, arms crossed, leaning against a pillar. Her white gauze dress fluttered in the night wind.
She stared at the returning Gu Changge with cold, unblinking eyes. She looked like a wife waiting for a husband who had sneaked out to cheat.
“Why that face?” Gu Changge teased, landing lightly. “I didn’t go out for a tryst.”
“Where did you go?”
Yue Mingkong walked up to him, frowning. She knew he hadn’t gone to kill Ye Ling. That meant he likely went to deal with Bai Lie.
But as she got closer, her nose twitched.
A faint, strange fragrance clung to him.
“I went to watch a show,” Gu Changge smiled. “We return to the sect tomorrow.”
Yue Mingkong stopped right in front of him. She sniffed the air again, and her beautiful eyes narrowed dangerously.
“There is a scent…” she said, her voice dripping with ice. “The scent of a fox spirit.”
“Fox spirit?” Gu Changge blinked, then laughed.
Her nose is that sharp?
Yin Mei was indeed a fox spirit—literally. He must have picked up her scent when he was playing with her tails earlier.
He circulated his spiritual energy, instantly purging the smell from his body. His relationship with Yin Mei was a critical secret; it couldn’t be exposed yet.
“Yue Mingkong,” he thought, amused. “To remember my scent so clearly… do you have hidden yandere attributes?”
Yue Mingkong glared at him one last time, then turned and stormed back to her room without another word.
She was furious.
She had waited here obediently, and he had gone out to meet a woman?
In this life, why are there fox spirits around him?
She knew it was probably just another pawn, another tool for his schemes. But it still made the vinegar jar in her heart overturn.
She clenched her fists, her aura flaring with terrifying killing intent.
Yan Ji was one thing—a Great Sage she couldn’t touch yet. But this new fox?
“Don’t let me find out who you are,” the Empress hissed to the empty room.
She loved him deeply, and she hated him deeply. She wanted to kill him for his past sins.
But she would not allow another woman to stand by his side before she did.
