Chapter 137: No Qualification to Flounce Before Gu Changge; Shifting Convictions

“Lord Long Teng?”

At the mention of that name, Yue Mingkong’s cold gaze flickered with a sharp clarity, confirming the Dragon Girl’s identity. Yet, she remained inwardly unimpressed.

In her previous life, Long Teng’s reputation had been staggering, his name towering over the younger generation. Once he emerged from the Immortal Ancient Continent, he had been an invincible force, sweeping aside even the ancient freaks who had broken their seals. However, his story had ended in an unsolved mystery—he had vanished as if he had evaporated from the world.

Many cultivators had mourned the loss of such talent, believing he could have contended for the ultimate throne. Some speculated he had wandered into a forbidden zone or a spatial rift. But in this life, Mingkong suspected a far more sinister truth: he had fallen victim to Gu Changge.

She vividly recalled a day in her past life when she had overheard Changge murmuring a list of names under his breath. Long Teng had been among them. With the Immortal Devouring Demonic Art in his possession, how could Changge possibly pass up the chance to harvest a True Dragon Origin? Given his nature, Long Teng was already a marked man.

Buzz!

Mingkong snapped back to the present, her expression icy. She struck out with a palm, the white jade-like print crystalline and translucent. Though her displayed realm was merely the mid-stage of the Conferred King Realm, the destructive power she unleashed reached the True God Realm, leaving the surrounding cultivators in awe. Had they been in the same realm, the Dragon Girl wouldn’t have survived a single exchange.

The Dragon Girl’s face paled. She relied on her draconic heritage and physical resilience to stay in the fight, but she was clearly losing ground. She activated a powerful body-refining art, her skin shimmering with scales, as she was forced back step after step through the void.

“Lord Long Teng has commanded me to gather the peerless beauties of the outside world,” the Dragon Girl shouted through the clashing energies, attempting to lure Mingkong. “If you submit to him willingly, he will be pleased. A woman of your caliber is only fit for a man like Lord Long Teng!”

Dragon blood carried a naturally lecherous streak, and Long Teng possessed a predatory obsession with beauties of every race. The Dragon Girl had intended to capture Mingkong as a high-tier tribute to win her lord’s favor. Even as a woman, she found it hard to look away from Mingkong’s breathtaking face; for a man like Long Teng, she would be irresistible.

“Lord Long Teng’s talent is the greatest our clan has seen in a million years,” she persisted, speaking in the tongue of the outside world. “The elders say he will one day claim the title of True Dragon—a being surpassing even the True Immortals!”

In the Dragon Girl’s heart, Long Teng was a deity. Her only regret was that her own appearance wasn’t enough to catch his eye.

“You should pray my fiancé never hears you say that,” Mingkong replied. A trace of cold mockery touched her lips. In front of Gu Changge, these so-called young supremes and ancient monsters were nothing. They didn’t even have the qualification to flounce, let alone compete.

“Fiancé?” The Dragon Girl’s expression soured. “Your fiancé is as good as dead. No woman Lord Long Teng desires has ever escaped.”

Mingkong ignored the threat, her demeanor calm and composed. She briefly considered revealing her true strength to end this annoying creature but decided against it. A mere servant wasn’t worth the exposure, and the girl likely had hidden trump cards of her own.

Realizing she couldn’t subdue Mingkong, the Dragon Girl prepared to retreat. She needed to report this to Long Teng immediately.

The Immortal Ancient Remnant Clans, who ruled over the indigenous tribes, had known about the arrival of the outside world’s youth for some time. The “Immortal Treasure” that had drawn everyone here was actually a lure—a faint radiance emitted by an artifact of the Remnant Clans to draw the Great Sects into their territory. After ages of isolation, they wanted their own geniuses to walk the world and re-establish their ancient dominance.

Long Teng was their vanguard. And while this Dragon Girl wasn’t even in the top ten of their youth, she felt she could still look down on the outsiders. With the continent’s superior Spiritual Qi and countless hidden legacies—Supreme Stone Carvings and Quasi-Emperor remains—the Remnant Clans were far ahead of the current world.

“Long Teng… I wonder how long you’ll survive in this life,” Mingkong mused as the Dragon Girl vanished into the distance. She didn’t give chase. She knew the girl was already a ghost; if she went to Long Teng, she would only lead Changge to his next meal.

Will that man think I’m intentionally drawing aggro for him? Mingkong narrowed her eyes, trying to predict Changge’s reaction. He probably won’t care. To him, Long Teng is just prey.

She had lowered her guard somewhat, but a decade-long fear wasn’t so easily erased. Their relationship felt closer; he shared his secrets, gave her gifts, and spoke words that genuinely moved her. But she remained clear-headed. At the end of the day, I am simply useful to him right now.

Yet, a part of her yearned for a different reality. She wanted to be his partner, to help him rule the heavens and stand at the peak of the Great Dao. She just needed to ensure no “fox spirits” got in the way. Gu Changge belonged to her alone.

“Xianer…”

Mingkong’s thoughts shifted to her sister-in-law, her face clouding with worry. She led her massive retinue toward the region where Gu Xianer was reportedly being hunted. Along the way, she had used her future knowledge to snatch up several choice fated chances, including an Imperial inheritance. She was waiting for the right moment to break through to the Void God Realm, keeping her Conferred King facade only to mirror Changge’s deceptive tactics.

Boom!

Divine rainbows tore through the sky as they reached the site of the Sea King Palace’s ambush. The air was heavy with the scent of blood. Mountains had been leveled, and primeval forests were reduced to ash.

“Princess, the news has changed,” a female follower reported, bowing low. “Young Master Changge was here. He suppressed and killed the Seventh Princess of the Sea King Palace and annihilated their entire force. Miss Xianer is safe.”

Mingkong was stunned. She nodded slowly, her heart a tangle of conflicting emotions. Gu Changge had actually come to save Xianer. In her memory, Xianer was the one who eventually killed the Seventh Princess, only to face a brutal retaliation from the Sea King Palace. In this life, the Princess was dead already, and Xianer hadn’t even been pushed to a life-threatening breakthrough.

Am I truly misjudging him? What is he planning?

She rubbed her temples. If it happened once, it was a fluke. But twice? Three times? Was her trauma blinding her to the man he was in this timeline? Was her “past life” even real, or was this world an anomaly?

“I’ll have to find a chance to speak with Uncle Gu about the events of that year,” she decided. She turned her back on the battlefield. She had no intention of slowing down; the Void God Realm was just the beginning.

Elsewhere, near a sprawling indigenous ruin in the east.

Puff!

A beam of black-and-white light surged forward, rotting a monstrous beast into a pile of sun-bleached bones in seconds.

“Stunning! Brother Ye’s strength is truly peerless!”

The group of young cultivators behind “Ye Lin” cheered, their eyes full of newfound respect. They recalled their earlier mockery with shame; they had been blind to a dragon among men.

“Brother Ye’s progress is terrifying… he’s already on the verge of the Conferred King Realm,” Chi Ling noted, her voice full of admiration.

“Indeed. Killing a Void God beast with one strike… most young supremes can’t match that,” Yin Mei added with a charming, curved-eye smile.

Ye Ling glowed under the praise. This was why he fought—to show off, to conquer, and to win the hearts of the women beside him. They moved through ancient forests of trees so wide it took dozens of men to encircle them, the air thick with the vitality of the Immortal Ancient era. Battles were raging everywhere over ancient artifacts and medicinal herbs, but under Ye Ling’s guidance, they had bypassed every danger.

“Old Turtle, is the Reincarnation Ancient Heavenly Sovereign’s legacy really in there?” Ye Ling whispered to his pendant as he looked at the distant city ruins. “That’s their heartland. Going in there is suicide.”

“Hmph. Where else would it be?” the Old Turtle grumbled. “The Sovereign mastered the power of Time. He calculated your arrival ages ago. There are experts ahead, but where is your courage, boy?”

Ye Ling steeled himself. He wouldn’t share this secret with the others; he didn’t want to become a target for every powerhouse on the continent. He offered a knowing look to Chi Ling and Yin Mei, signaling them to dismiss their followers.

“Ye Ling, what is it?” Chi Ling asked as the retinue stepped back.

“I need to slip into those ruins,” Ye Ling said seriously. “If you trust me, come with me. It will be dangerous, but we can watch each other’s backs.”

“I trust you,” Yin Mei said without a heartbeat of hesitation.

Ye Ling was deeply moved. To follow him into the heart of enemy territory without a second thought… her trust was absolute. He didn’t know that Gu Changge was currently standing on a nearby ridge, watching them with a dark, satisfied smile.

Changge had followed the “bread crumbs” Yin Mei had left perfectly. He was alone; being high-profile now would be a rookie mistake.

“Ye Ling’s prize is in there,” Changge mused, the void in front of him beginning to ripple. “But he’ll take his time sneaking in. That gives me more than enough time to raid the ancestral tombs first.”

With a step, Gu Changge vanished into the space between worlds. With his prior experience, this heist would be a masterpiece.
