Chapter 152: Changge, What Are You Thinking, Actually Protecting Her?
Buzz!
In the void three thousand miles outside the ancient city, ripples distorted the air, and Gu Changge’s elegant figure stepped out.
He glanced back toward the city, which had already descended into absolute chaos, a faint, amused smile playing on his lips. He felt not a single shred of guilt.
Didn’t the various Ancient Immortal races want to exact revenge on him? Let’s see who could move faster.
Naturally, his primary objective was to silence any witnesses who might expose the truth about Long Teng’s corpse. Now, even if the Ancient Immortal races suspected him, they possessed absolutely no proof. Better yet, this bloodbath would drastically escalate the animosity between the native races and the outside factions.
Gu Changge’s scheme was utterly venomous—killing multiple birds with a single stone. The muddier the waters of the Ancient Immortal Continent became, the easier it was for him to fish for advantages.
“Master, all suspicious individuals in the vicinity have been silenced,” his followers reported respectfully, dropping to their knees as they arrived from all directions. They had faithfully executed his orders to intercept anyone fleeing the area.
Gu Changge nodded approvingly. “Excellent. Let us depart.”
With this, every single living being who had witnessed him enter the pavilion was erased from existence. His timing had been impeccable; he had orchestrated it so the native experts arrived exactly as he was striking the final blow. If he hadn’t left a staged scene behind, it would have appeared far too deliberate and might have backfired.
His ultimate calculation was simple: he wanted Yue Mingkong to deduce that he was secretly protecting her. However, he couldn’t make his intentions too obvious. If he acted completely out of character, her deeply ingrained suspicions would flare up again.
Gu Changge loathed the idea of doing a “good deed” in complete anonymity. What was the point of playing the hero if there was no audience? In his philosophy, if he expended one fraction of effort to help someone, he needed to expend ten fractions of effort on marketing it. How else was he supposed to move Yue Mingkong to tears? He needed his cold, calculating fiancée to deeply realize just how deeply her husband cherished her.
Satisfied with the seeds he had planted, Gu Changge led his followers away, vanishing into the horizon.
News that an outside Young Supreme had slaughtered a gathering of native geniuses sent shockwaves across the Ancient Immortal Continent. The Feathered Human Race and the Golden Crow Clan erupted in cataclysmic fury. Their most promising talents had been wiped out in that pavilion, their bodies and souls entirely annihilated. Not even ash remained.
The death of a Heavenly God Realm expert from the Golden Crow Clan caused an even greater uproar. Slaying a Heavenly God was not something a member of the younger generation could achieve through raw talent alone. The killer either possessed a terrifying, taboo-level Magical Artifact, or their personal strength was monstrous enough to defy all logic. Furthermore, the battle had produced suspiciously little commotion, delaying the arrival of reinforcements.
This massacre was an unprecedented humiliation. Furious native experts scoured the continent. They desperately tried to piece together who possessed the capability to slip into an ancient city undetected, slaughter a room full of prodigies and a Heavenly God, and vanish without a trace.
Only a handful of outside Young Supremes possessed such ghostly speed and power. Suspicions quickly narrowed, and Gu Changge’s name topped the list. He was the most likely culprit.
Yet, because every witness had been atomized, there was zero evidence.
When confronted, Gu Changge merely offered a bewildered, innocent smile, perfectly playing the part of a wrongfully accused saint. Please, you flatter me, his demeanor seemed to say. I couldn’t possibly be that ruthless.
His flawless act only infuriated the Ancient Immortal beings further. They were absolutely certain he was the butcher, yet they were entirely powerless to prove it. Consequently, a massive coalition of young native prodigies banded together, forming a crusade to hunt Gu Changge down.
These crusades inevitably sparked violent clashes with other outside cultivators. Hatred festered, and blood began to soak the earth over the slightest disputes for Fated Chances.
Adding fuel to the fire, the Immortal Ancient Dragon Race issued a public ultimatum: Gu Changge must hand over Long Teng’s corpse, or bear the consequences.
Gu Changge’s public response was characteristically arrogant. “Impossible.”
He even casually warned the Dragon Race to keep their younger generation locked indoors, or he would slaughter every single one he came across.
It was not an empty threat. That very afternoon, Gu Changge led a massive contingent of followers across the continent, actively hunting and executing any young Dragon Race cultivators they could find.
His overwhelming ruthlessness stunned both the Ancient Immortal races and the outside orthodoxies. A tempest of blood and terror swept across the land. The Dragon Race elders were livid, shattering jade tables in their war rooms, yet they genuinely didn’t dare send their remaining youths out to face him.
Meanwhile, within the majestic, fog-shrouded ruins of the Baiheng Mountain Range.
Yue Mingkong stood atop a towering peak, her silk robes and raven hair fluttering in the biting wind. Her bare, snow-white feet hovered just above the stone. She had secured this territory with her followers, quietly waiting for something to emerge.
Naturally, the bloody news of the past few days had reached her ears.
“It seems that after he left me, he immediately tracked down the expert hiding in the shadows,” Yue Mingkong murmured to herself, her profound eyes gazing toward the horizon where Gu Changge had vanished.
Others might not understand why Gu Changge went out of his way to assassinate a Heavenly God from the Golden Crow Clan, but her brilliant mind quickly connected the dots. When Gu Changge had gifted her the dragon corpse, that hidden expert must have seen it.
Therefore… his brutal massacre was specifically to silence them.
By slaughtering the witnesses, Gu Changge ensured that no one in the world knew she possessed the corpse. He had deliberately painted a massive target on his own back, aggressively taking the fall and drawing the apocalyptic wrath of the Dragon Race entirely upon himself.
“Changge, what are you thinking… doing all this?”
Yue Mingkong’s vision suddenly blurred, a sharp sting prickling her nose.
The Gu Changge of her previous life would never have done this. He would have weaponized the situation, broadcasting to the entire world that she held the corpse, using her as bait while he reaped the rewards. Never in her wildest dreams could she have imagined him stepping in front of her, absorbing the world’s hatred just to keep her safe.
Truthfully, her cold heart was trembling. She was deeply, profoundly moved.
“He must have been noticed by the other races while silencing the Golden Crow. Now, he hasn’t just drawn the ire of the dragons, but the fury of the entire Ancient Immortal Continent,” Yue Mingkong whispered, her elegant brows knitting together in worry.
An impulsive urge to abandon her post and rush to his side gripped her. Even someone as monstrously powerful as Gu Changge would struggle against the combined might of every native race. She still wanted to avenge her past life, yes—but she absolutely refused to let anyone else harm him. Their feud was strictly a private matter. She couldn’t just stand by while he navigated a deadly siege for her sake.
“No, wait. Once the Immortal Spirit appears, the ancient monsters will flock here. The Ancient Immortal races will be forced to restrain themselves,” she reasoned, forcing her emotions down. “It’s best if I hold this position. The immortal path is hidden within these mountains. I need to be the first one inside.”
After rationalizing the situation, she sighed in relief. Gu Changge was a man of infinite contingencies. If he could snatch the Immortal Spirit from under the noses of Supreme beings in her past life, he possessed enough life-saving trump cards to survive this. Even blinded by hatred, the native races wouldn’t dare dispatch their older generation against him just yet.
Still, she hesitated. Should I reveal a fraction of the Immortal Spirit’s existence to him? So much had changed. The facts were undeniable: Gu Changge was truly different in this life.
Deep within the territory of the Black Sky Eagle clan.
In a secluded courtyard, a young man named Hei Ming sat cross-legged. Bizarre, sinister threads of black mist slithered across his face like living veins.
His eyes snapped open, blazing with unadulterated ecstasy.
“It hasn’t even been a month, and I’ve already broken through to the Holy Lord Realm! I was only at the Transcendent Realm!” Hei Ming whispered, his voice trembling with euphoria. “At this rate, I’ll reach the Conferred King Realm in half a year! I’ll surpass my sister and become the absolute prodigy of the Black Sky Eagle clan!”
A month ago, such thoughts would have been delusional ravings. Now, it was his reality. His cultivation was skyrocketing daily. The Wedding Dress Immortal Art was terrifyingly heaven-defying.
Recently, his sister, Hei Yanyu, had presented the introductory volume of the art to the clan elders. It triggered a massive earthquake within the clan. After rigorous study, the elders concluded it was a genuine Immortal Art, a supreme scripture that pointed directly toward the immortal path.
The entire clan treated it as their most sacred treasure. As the elders and high-ranking members cultivated it, they found their long-stagnant bottlenecks showing signs of loosening. They were ecstatic, believing this was the key for the Black Sky Eagle clan to swallow the other four major races and dominate the continent.
Because she delivered the scripture, Hei Yanyu’s status skyrocketed. Naturally, she credited Hei Ming, claiming he had stumbled upon the scripture at a random stall and selflessly offered it to the clan. The elders were deeply moved by his “pure filial piety,” praising him as an exemplary descendant. Consequently, Hei Ming’s status was elevated to second only to his sister among the younger generation.
What shocked the elders further was that Hei Ming’s own talent seemed to be mutating and expanding rapidly, which they attributed to the miraculous effects of the Immortal Art. This only fueled their zeal to cultivate it.
Outwardly, Hei Ming played the role of the humble, respectful junior. Inwardly, he was cackling like a madman.
Fools, he sneered in his heart.
The Wedding Dress Immortal Art was the ultimate parasite. It was explicitly designed for toiling for another’s gain. The more people who cultivated the derived version of the art, the more they became his personal cultivation batteries. He was passively siphoning their talent and foundational essence. As they grew stronger, they merely harvested energy to feed back to him. Eventually, he would suppress the elders effortlessly and become the undisputed master of the clan.
His ambitions didn’t stop there. He planned to leak the art to the other major races. Soon, the entire Ancient Immortal Continent would become his personal vessels, harvesting Providence for his sole benefit.
“Now, almost every elder and talented clansman is practicing it. Even two sleeping Ancestors have been awakened to cultivate it…” Hei Ming trembled with suppressed excitement.
Those two Ancestors were the most ancient, terrifying entities in the clan, having slumbered for millions of years. If they became his batteries, his strength would undergo a terrifying metamorphosis.
“If only I could see that Supreme Existence again. Without Him, I’d still be a piece of trash waiting to die!” Hei Ming felt nothing but fanatical devotion toward the mysterious entity who had gifted him the art.
“Little brother, the two Ancestors wish to see you. They have some questions,” a soft voice echoed from outside the courtyard.
It was his sister, Hei Yanyu. She appeared around eighteen, dressed in immaculate white robes embroidered with jade rivers and mountains, a nine-phoenix hairpin holding up her cloud-like hair. She radiated the holy purity of a divine lotus.
“Sister…” Hei Ming rose to greet her, but a spike of anxiety pierced his chest.
The Ancestors wanted to verify the origins of the scripture. A “lucky find at a stall” was a flimsy excuse that couldn’t hold up forever. Greed was human nature; knowing the value of this Immortal Art, the Ancestors might suspect he was hiding the rest of it.
They might Soul Search me, he realized, cold sweat drenching his palms. If the Ancestors discovered the Supreme Existence in his memories, what would happen?
In desperation, he prayed inwardly. Supreme Existence, hear my plea. Help me survive this.
Suddenly, his mind violently trembled. A supreme, overwhelming pressure descended into his consciousness. An ancient, terrifying Innate Godly Spirit with six heads and eight arms materialized within his sea of consciousness, staring down at him with utter apathy. Thick, chaotic mist instantly shrouded his memories.
The Supreme Existence answered my prayer! Hei Ming almost wept with joy.
Noticing his sudden daze, Hei Yanyu asked, “Brother, what’s wrong?”
“N-nothing!” Hei Ming quickly shook his head. “I’m just incredibly nervous about meeting the Ancestors.”
“Just stay calm. Don’t be too stiff; the Ancestors are very kind,” she reassured him, suspecting nothing. After all, facing Quasi-Supreme beings would terrify any junior.
Nine million miles away, amidst ancient ruins.
Gu Changge stood alone, his hands clasped behind his back. The radiant, golden runes swirling in his pupils faded away, severing his visual link with Hei Ming.
Hei Ming’s performance had not disappointed him. The boy was successfully infiltrating the entire Black Sky Eagle clan. His acting was decent, though it paled in comparison to Yin Mei’s.
“Two Ancestors of the Black Sky Eagle clan… If they are at the Emperor Realm, they might see through the Wedding Dress Immortal Art’s parasitic nature. That would be troublesome.” Gu Changge mused, looking out over the vast landscape. “If my plan is exposed, I’ll just have to use the entire clan as leverage. I wonder if they’d submit.”
However, if the Ancestors were merely Quasi-Supremes, they wouldn’t notice a thing.
Gu Changge operated alone, keeping his followers in the dark. The fewer people who knew he possessed the Immortal Devouring Demonic Art and its derivatives, the better. Making the entire world his enemy prematurely was a fool’s errand. Even if his scheme was exposed to the Ancestors, they would never be able to trace it back to Gu Changge.
“The likelihood of them recognizing it is microscopic. Only an Emperor Realm expert who has lived through the deepest eons would recognize the mechanics of siphoning another’s cultivation in such a manner. I’m overthinking it,” Gu Changge concluded, his lips curving into a cynical smirk.
“Once those two Ancestors are under my control, the entire Black Sky Eagle clan falls into my hands without me having to lift a single finger. How utterly relaxing.”
With the board perfectly set, Gu Changge decided it was time to upgrade his own strength. His recent manipulations of the two Daughters of Providence—Gu Xianer and Yue Mingkong—had yielded a massive harvest.
He opened his system interface.
