Chapter 31: I Wasn’t Even Trying to Posture, Yet the Ancestor Calls Himself an Old Servant
Listening to the chatter of the two disciples, Lin Tian’s expression soured.
Lin Family Ancestor? Young Lord? Hah. What sort of nonsense is this?
In the eyes of the God King of Slaughter, every existence in this Azure Realm was nothing more than a toddler playing house. The so-called strongest experts here were, at best, at the Void God Realm. Before This King—a former supreme entity—they were ants he could crush with a single finger.
Lin Tian held nothing but contempt for the commotion.
“Pay respects to the Ancestor? I have no interest in such things. Scram.”
Lin Tian had no patience for these two. His face went cold as he issued the order to leave.
“You…”
The two disciples froze, indignation rising. Lin Tian never spoke to them like this. What madness had consumed him lately? His personality had become increasingly bizarre and reclusive.
The young man among them prepared to step forward and teach Lin Tian a lesson, but the young maiden beside him tugged him back.
“The Ancestor has returned from the Upper Realm. If he refuses to pay respects for such a monumental event, he clearly doesn’t value his identity as a Lin Family disciple anymore.”
“Let’s not invite trouble upon ourselves. When the Family Head finds out, he’ll be punished severely regardless.”
As the maiden spoke, she ignored Lin Tian and pulled her companion away. However, she failed to notice the shock that flashed across Lin Tian’s face.
“Returned from the Upper Realm?”
Lin Tian was stunned. He had caught the key phrase.
He had originally intended to skip this farce, but anything involving the Upper Realm piqued his vigilance.
Fine. What harm is there in taking a look? This King shall see just what sort of character this Lin Family Ancestor is…
With that thought, Lin Tian’s expression shifted slightly, and he silently trailed behind the pair.
Noticing his presence, the two disciples couldn’t help but sneer.
“Hah…” “Didn’t you just say you weren’t going?” “It seems he’s scared after all. He still cares about his status. Without the Lin Family, he is nothing.”
Their mocking whispers drifted back, making Lin Tian’s face twist into a mask of ugliness. Killing intent flickered in his eyes.
Fortunately, he restrained himself.
For now, he still needed the cover of a Lin Family disciple. He could not expose his origins.
The young man and woman leading the way had no idea they had just skirted the gates of hell. Although Lin Tian’s current cultivation was negligible, relying on the secret arts of his past life, slaughtering these two ants would have been as easy as breathing.
…
Meanwhile, inside the Lin Family’s Grand Hall.
Powerful auras filled the room. Vital energy surged like mist, divine light flickered, and auspicious radiance wove through the air, displaying the profound foundation of an ancient clan.
Outside the hall, a crowd of Lin Family clansmen had gathered. Most were young men and women, enveloped in faint spiritual light—the spirited elites of the main lineage, renowned geniuses across the Central State.
They gazed into the hall with a mixture of burning curiosity and nervous excitement, yet none dared to make a sound. The figures inside were the high-ranking Elders and powerhouses of the clan. Even the Grand Elder, who had been in secluded cultivation for ten thousand years and was rumored to have perished, had emerged to personally receive the guests!
But all eyes were drawn to the head seat.
Who was that young man in the dark, mysterious robes, sitting there with downcast eyes, idly sipping tea? Even his maidservant possessed a beauty that stopped the heart, resembling a fairy from the Ninth Heaven.
More shockingly, why did their Ancestor—a legendary figure who had ascended to the Upper Realm—maintain such a respectful, almost subservient, posture toward him?
For the onlookers, this scene was simply inconceivable.
“Elder Ming, you may chat among yourselves. Do not mind me,” Gu Changge said from the head seat, smiling casually.
He found the situation rather amusing.
This wasn’t him intentionally posturing. He hadn’t even disembarked from his flying vessel before a throng of elderly cultivators appeared below, claiming to be descendants of the Lin Family and waiting in respectful silence. Naturally, they had invited him into the estate with the highest honors.
With nothing better to do and a mindset of simply touring the lower realm, Gu Changge hadn’t refused.
Elder Ming explained that his bloodline descendants had sensed his return to the Central State and came specifically to welcome him. Though the explanation was simple, receiving such a grand welcome from his own kin clearly gave Elder Ming a great deal of face.
Especially since it happened in front of Gu Changge.
He didn’t want the Young Master to have to lodge in some dilapidated ruin upon his first visit to the Central State. Accompanying the Young Master to the lower realm was a massive opportunity for him. In the Upper Realm, given his status within the Gu Family, getting close to Gu Changge was nearly impossible, let alone handling matters for him.
“Young Master, you jest. Even if this Old Servant is overjoyed, I would never dare to neglect you,” Elder Ming replied with a bitter, deferential smile.
Of course, he used a half-joking tone, knowing Gu Changge wouldn’t take offense. Seeing his descendants flourishing, establishing themselves as a major ancient clan in the Central State, had put Elder Ming in high spirits. His courage had swelled; ordinarily, he wouldn’t dare banter with Gu Changge.
Old Servant?
Did the Ancestor actually refer to himself as ‘Old Servant’?
Inside the hall, the pupils of every Lin Family elder contracted sharply. They sucked in cold breaths, their hearts trembling. The young geniuses at the entrance widened their eyes in disbelief.
“It is of no consequence.”
Gu Changge smiled lightly, unbothered by such trivialities.
However, if this was a reunion between ancestor and descendants, what was he doing sitting here?
“Qingge, accompany me for a walk.”
Gu Changge set down his teacup and rose from his seat. His expression was tranquil and warm, devoid of arrogance, giving off an air of approachability.
But the crowd knew better. This was merely restrained loftiness. The gentle aura on the surface was nothing more than the hallmark of impeccable aristocratic upbringing—or perhaps, he was simply giving face to Elder Ming.
“Qiuhan, you are familiar with the area. Why don’t you guide this Young Lord around the estate?”
Seeing the opportunity, the Lin Family Head suddenly spoke up, addressing his daughter at the entrance.
Hearing this, Elder Ming cast him an approving glance. This descendant has excellent discernment.
“Y-Yes, Father.”
Lin Qiuhan responded hurriedly, her voice trembling. She was far too nervous.
Gu Changge, who hadn’t been paying attention, followed the voice and looked over.
His eyes brightened slightly.
She wore a simple gray robe, yet her beauty was peerless. Her skin was like creamy alabaster, her hair like flowing clouds. Even the loose robe couldn’t hide her tall, curvaceous figure.
But what truly caught his interest wasn’t her appearance. It was the halo above her head.
Her Luck Points… they’re surprisingly high.
“Sister…”
At the entrance of the main hall, Lin Tian had just arrived. Seeing his ‘sister’ being offered up like a tour guide, he froze.
Then, his fists clenched tight, and a storm of possessive rage surged within his chest.
