Chapter 37: The Source of the Heavenly Demon’s Fear; He Really Played Himself to Death
At the same time. Inside the Grand Hall.
Gu Changge opened his eyes, his expression a pool of calm indifference.
Almost the instant Lin Tian launched his scheme, Gu Changge sensed a subtle, obscure fluctuation. From the void came a terrifying rumble—audible only to him—like the galloping of a thousand warhorses.
Following it was a ripple of cold, sinister energy.
It was the aura of a Heavenly Demon. He knew it well.
“It seems things are proceeding exactly as I expected.”
“Though I am surprised he resorted to a Curse Technique…”
The smile on Gu Changge’s face grew intriguing.
Hum!
A dark radiance flashed through his pupils. Within his Sea of Consciousness, the Innate Godly Spirit opened its eyes. Its gaze was profound, ancient, and indifferent. Pitch-black demonic intent rolled off it like thick fog, exuding a vast, mysterious power.
“Using demonic arts in front of me? For a so-called powerhouse of a past era, you are still too green.”
Gu Changge’s smile vanished, replaced by cold apathy.
Setting aside his Devil Heart, his Innate Godly Spirit alone was a supreme talent of the soul. After being tainted by his demonic nature, it had evolved to fear no evil entity.
In other words, Heavenly Demons of this caliber were nothing more than snacks for his Primordial Spirit.
“The Myriad Transformation Heavenly Demon…”
Gu Changge glanced at Su Qingge, who was sleeping soundly beside him. He took care not to wake her.
In the next instant, black light erupted from his palm. Terrifying demonic nature intertwined within it, resembling a peerless Arch-Devil awakening to devour the world.
Gu Changge casually reached into the void before him.
The air temperature plummeted.
Then came the screams—shrieks of absolute terror that seemed to echo from another dimension. Wisps of black smoke were dragged forcibly out of the void, trembling with an aura that would make ordinary souls shatter.
Gu Changge’s Innate Godly Spirit took a single step forward and inhaled. It was like a whale swallowing the ocean.
Crack… Crunch…
Sounds of chewing echoed in the spiritual plane.
The horde of Heavenly Demons let out despairing wails as they were rapidly devoured. Gu Changge felt his Primordial Spirit swell with power. Among the nutrients, he tasted a distinct strand of Lin Tian’s life essence.
In the blink of an eye, the void returned to silence. It was as if nothing had happened.
[Ding! Lin Tian’s lifespan has been significantly reduced.] [Providence damaged by 150 points.] [Destiny Points increased by 750.]
The System prompt rang in his mind, but Gu Changge barely paid it any heed.
“He really played himself into a dead end. This new Son of Providence certainly knows how to court death.”
“And I haven’t even made my move yet.”
Gu Changge smiled playfully.
“Young Master! Please forgive this Old Servant’s failure!”
Outside the hall, Elder Ming rushed over, his face pale with panic. He had sensed the terrifying disturbance in the void a moment too late.
He was terrified. He never imagined someone would dare to assassinate the Young Master late at night—and using such insidious, vicious methods to boot.
For such an atrocity to occur within the family he had founded made cold sweat pour down his back.
If the Young Master hadn’t resolved it himself…
The consequences were unimaginable. Even dying ten thousand times wouldn’t be enough to atone for his sin.
Hum!
Gu Changge took a step and appeared outside the hall, his expression unruffled.
“It is of no consequence. A curse of this level cannot harm me. However, I am curious… who in this Lower Realm possesses such methods?” he said calmly.
Internally, Gu Changge found the situation amusing. He deliberately withheld Lin Tian’s name. Aside from Lin Qiuhan, he wasn’t supposed to know the identities of the other Lin Family disciples. Naming the culprit immediately would be suspicious.
Besides, it was far more entertaining to let the Lin Family hunt down the criminal themselves.
Lin Tian was currently suffering from severe backlash. He couldn’t run.
All Gu Changge had to do was sit back and watch the show.
I thought I could play with this toy for a while longer, but he broke himself instantly.
Gu Changge felt a twinge of boredom. It wasn’t just that he was too strong; these “Children of Destiny” were simply too fragile. Without the protection of Providence Backlash, they were mere ants to be crushed at his whim.
“The curse was broken, so the caster is bound to suffer backlash,” Elder Ming stated, his face grim. “This Old Servant will investigate immediately. I swear to find the culprit and give Young Master an explanation!”
Seeing that Gu Changge didn’t blame him, Elder Ming was moved. His resolve hardened.
Gu Changge nodded and returned inside.
“Young Master… what happened outside?”
Su Qingge rubbed her eyes, looking puzzled. The commotion had awakened her.
“A trivial matter. It’s handled. Go back to sleep.”
…
Soon after, Elder Ming mobilized the entire clan.
The Lin Family was thrown into chaos. The Elders and the Patriarch were terrified, their faces drained of blood. A massive search operation began instantly. With an assassination attempt on Young Master Gu, no one was sleeping tonight.
Curse Techniques were not something ordinary people could master. Elder Ming knew this well. He prayed fervently that the culprit wasn’t a member of his own family.
Otherwise, he would be hard-pressed to escape the blame.
…
Under the dim moonlight, inside a small courtyard.
The moment the connection to the Heavenly Demons snapped, Lin Tian sensed something was wrong.
“Not good…”
“Why?!”
“Backlash! How can it be backlash?!”
Lin Tian was horrified. He had never anticipated this outcome.
His face turned deathly pale, and he bent over, vomiting mouthfuls of blood. His hair rapidly turned gray, and his skin withered and wrinkled, aging him decades in a matter of seconds.
He collapsed, his body so frail that a stiff breeze might blow him away.
In the split second before the connection severed, Lin Tian had felt the emotions of the Heavenly Demons.
It was fear. Absolute, primal terror.
It was as if they had encountered the Demon among Demons, the Emperor of Darkness.
Gu Changge harbored something that terrified the very source of evil.
“Why…?”
“That surname Gu is fine… but I can’t stay in the Lin Family. Once they trace this back to me…”
Lin Tian’s expression twisted in panic. He had aged fifteen years in a single night; anyone with eyes would notice the anomaly. A disguise technique would be useless—the experts of the Lin Family would spot his damaged life essence instantly.
Heavy footsteps echoed from outside. The entire estate was awake.
He could sense powerful auras patrolling the sky above. The ancient city had been sealed. The Lin Family was tearing the place apart to find the assassin.
A chill that had nothing to do with the curse settled in Lin Tian’s bones.
“Am I… a God King… going to fall here?”
“I am just a cripple in the Lin Family. They shouldn’t suspect me immediately…”
He forced himself to calm down, desperately searching for a solution.
Just then, Lin Qiuhan’s anxious voice rang out from outside the courtyard.
“Xiao Tian! Something terrible happened tonight! Come out quickly, Father has summoned everyone to gather…”
Lin Tian’s heart sank into the abyss.
