Chapter 49: A Convenient Method; Creatures of the Immemorial Sacred Mountains
Lin Tian was dead. All that remained was an empty shell.
For Gu Changge, dealing with a Child of Providence offered several paths. The simplest was direct assassination, but that yielded only partial Destiny Points and forfeited the “Kill Drop” rewards granted by the Heavenly Dao. Furthermore, seizing their un-triggered Fated Chances was difficult.
The second method—the one he was currently employing—involved relentless suppression. By crushing their spirit and stripping away their opportunities, he could farm Destiny Points until their Luck hit zero. Then, the kill would trigger a massive bonus payout.
Though tedious, it maximized profit.
Gu Changge knew exactly which path suited him best.
Wearing an indifferent expression, he walked out of the dungeon and summoned his System interface.
It looked completely refreshed.
[Host: Gu Changge] [Aura: Destiny Villain] [Identity: True Disciple of Daootian Immortal Palace] [Constitution/Bloodline: Devil Heart, Dao Bone] [Cultivation: Late-Stage Conferred Lord Realm] [Techniques: Daootian Immortal Scripture (7th Layer), Myriad Transformations Devil Body (Talent), Innate Godly Spirit (Talent), Immortal Devouring Demonic Art…] [Destiny Points: 4,500] [Luck Points: 450 (Black)] [System Mall: Open] [Warehouse: Domain-Breaking Talisman x1, Incomplete World Seed (2/3), Luck Plundering Card x3, System Settlement Crit Card x1]
“A massive harvest,” Gu Changge murmured, a satisfied smile playing on his lips.
“With 4,500 Destiny Points, my options have expanded significantly. The Eight Desolate Demon Halberd should be appearing soon. It’s time to deal with Ye Chen; he has outlived his usefulness.”
His thoughts drifted further.
“I also need to prepare for my return to the Upper Realm… otherwise, my situation might become precarious.”
Gu Changge frowned slightly.
Despite backing from the Changsheng Gu Family and his status within the Immortal Sect, his position in the Upper Realm wasn’t entirely secure.
His entry into the Daootian Immortal Palace hadn’t been pure. He was a “True Disciple,” not the “Successor,” largely due to the wariness of the sect’s high-level elders regarding his secondary identity.
He needed to stabilize his power base immediately upon return. Otherwise, he might find himself played to death before he could finish harvesting the Children of Providence.
The Daootian Immortal Palace was a behemoth—an Immortal Orthodoxy that had stood unbroken through the river of time. Its power was terrifying. Countless Ancient Families and Supreme Dynasties fought tooth and nail just to send their scions through its gates.
Even with his family’s support, taking control of such a sect would be a monumental challenge.
But that is a problem for later.
“Young Master Gu…”
Outside the dungeon, Lin Qiuhan was waiting. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying.
“It is done. I have resolved Lin Tian’s matter,” Gu Changge said gently, offering a comforting smile. “The remnant soul occupying his body has been eliminated.”
“Thank you, Young Master Gu… to trouble you with such a small matter…” Lin Qiuhan choked out, deeply moved.
“It was nothing. Just a small effort,” Gu Changge replied, his voice warm and steady.
Even if Lin Qiuhan had wanted to kill the impostor herself, Gu Changge wouldn’t have allowed it. If he didn’t land the killing blow, he would lose the Heavenly Dao Reward.
But framing it as a favor to boost her affection? Why not?
“Let your brother rest in peace. Since his body was occupied for so long, perhaps his soul hasn’t dissipated yet. There might still be a chance for reincarnation…”
It was a lie, of course.
The original Lin Tian’s soul had long been fused and devoured by the God King. And just moments ago, Gu Changge had swallowed whatever was left. Reincarnation was impossible.
But right now, comforting her was the priority.
“I understand. I will make the arrangements immediately…” Lin Qiuhan sniffled, touched that he would consider such things for her sake. She hurried off to give the orders.
Watching her leave, Gu Changge’s smile vanished instantly.
Simple women are easy to handle. A handsome face, refined words, and a little gentleness are all it takes.
With some free time on his hands, Gu Changge decided to invest his wealth. He spent 3,000 Destiny Points to upgrade his cultivation to the Late-Stage Conferred Lord Realm.
It was a minor realm increase, but for a Young Supreme, the boost in combat power was exponential.
Gu Changge rarely fought because he didn’t need to—his mere pressure was usually enough to crush opponents. But if he truly unleashed his strength, he was confident he could slaughter even Conferred King Realm experts with ease.
Still, the cost is steep.
To reach the peak of the Conferred Lord Realm would likely cost at least 5,000 points.
But it was worth it. His progress in the Daootian Immortal Scripture was nearing the eighth layer. In his memory, none of the other True Disciples in the Upper Realm had reached this level yet.
Considering he had only been in the Lower Realm for half a year, his speed was terrifying.
…
Three days remained until the Central State’s “Heavenly Pride Discourse Conference.”
Chongyue Ancient City was bustling. Streets were packed with cultivators from every sect and faction, the noise deafening.
After the annihilation of the Jialou Holy Land, the awe surrounding the Upper Realm Young Lord had reached a fever pitch. But so had the ambition.
The logic was simple: If offending him meant death, then pleasing him meant power.
Just look at the Lin Family. Their noses were pointed at the sky, walking with an arrogance that no one dared challenge. In a world where strength was law, proximity to power was everything.
Meanwhile, in a secluded, mist-shrouded courtyard within the city.
Several young beings with distinct, non-human features sat in discussion.
Some had wings on their backs, others had purple scales on their foreheads. Some were handsome as gods, while others had arms wreathed in living flame.
Each one radiated divine light and a powerful aura. Even the Successors of the Central State’s Holy Lands would seem lackluster in their presence. They weren’t even qualified to stand on the same stage.
The weakest among them was at the Great Power Realm—strong enough to look down on the older generation of this world.
Behind them stood terrifying old servants, their auras restrained but lethal.
If any local cultivators were here, they would scream in terror.
The Immemorial Sacred Mountains.
These young beings hailed from the forbidden zones, their origins ancient and terrifying.
“I didn’t expect the Jialou Holy Land to be wiped out so easily. Just what is the background of this youth from the Upper Realm…?”
A winged youth shook his head, feigning regret. In reality, he viewed the Jialou Holy Land with the same disdain he held for all humans.
“It doesn’t matter what his background is,” a stunningly beautiful girl said coldly. Her hand rested on a snow-white longsword on the table, and her eyes were filled with chilling killing intent. “I will make him pay the price.”
