Chapter 181: Junior Sister Specially Comes to Seek Guidance on the Talisman Path
After several days of intoxicating intimacy, the tempest of passion finally settled.
Li Meng was in no hurry to leave Sunset Glow Peak. He spent the following days entirely with Junior Sister Chen, practically sealing themselves away from the outside world.
When they weren’t sipping spiritual tea in the sunlit courtyard, they were entangled in the loft’s bed, acting no different from a pair of deeply enamored mortals.
On this particular day, the morning mist still clung to Sunset Glow Peak.
“Junior Sister, you have just reached Foundation Establishment,” Li Meng said, his tone gentle but carrying the weight of a seasoned cultivator. “You need to properly absorb your Root Strengthening pills and consolidate your foundation. Cultivation must never be rushed. Impatience is a major taboo!”
They strolled side by side down a winding path through a dense bamboo forest.
Chen Lan gazed up at her Senior Brother’s profile, a sweet smile curving her lips. The feeling of being so thoroughly cared for warmed her heart.
“Mhm, I know!” she chimed.
She looked toward the end of the trail, secretly wishing the bamboo forest stretched on forever.
Eventually, the trees thinned, and they arrived at a steep cliff overlooking the sea of clouds.
Li Meng reached out, taking Junior Sister Chen’s slender, jade-like hand. With a casual flick of his wrist, he pressed a heavy Storage Bag into her palm.
Inside the bag, nestled among a mountain of Root Strengthening pills, lay a First Grade Divine Sky Earth Shrinking Talisman Treasure.
It was a priceless life-saving artifact. With it in her possession, Chen Lan could venture out on Sect missions with peace of mind. Even if she had the extreme misfortune of encountering a Golden Core cultivator, she would have the power to protect herself and escape.
“Cultivate well, Junior Sister. Your Senior Brother will be taking his leave now.”
Li Meng gently released her hand. With a graceful turn, he summoned the wind. His flying sword materialized beneath his feet, and he soared away from the peak, his robes fluttering in the slipstream.
Chen Lan stood at the edge of the bamboo forest, her eyes following his departing silhouette until he disappeared completely into the rolling mists.
Only then did she withdraw her gaze, staring blankly at the heavy Storage Bag in her hands.
Senior Brother possessed the dreaded Five Spirit Roots waste physique. He clearly needed these resources far more than she did. Yet, without a moment of hesitation, he had showered her with a small fortune in pills and treasures.
A fierce glint of determination flashed through Chen Lan’s eyes.
I am already a Foundation Establishment cultivator, she thought, her grip tightening on the pouch. I cannot rely on Senior Brother for everything.
Joyous Union Sect.
Deep within the Inner Disciple territory.
A streak of radiant sword light pierced through the sky between the towering peaks.
Li Meng stood atop his blade, a faint, contented smile playing on his lips.
Occasionally indulging in life’s pleasures isn’t bad at all, he mused.
Recalling his playful tussles with Junior Sister Chen over the past few days, Li Meng felt incredibly refreshed. His Dao heart felt lighter.
Cultivation. Everyone talked about cultivation. But sitting in dull, monotonous meditation for years on end was simply the most boring existence imaginable.
Why not cultivate for freedom? Why not cultivate to live unrestrained and do as one pleased?
That was the kind of Dao that truly captivated the heart.
Ah, but completely unrestrained willfulness won’t do either, Li Meng quickly corrected himself, reining in his wandering thoughts.
Cultivators were no longer ordinary mortals, but they were still human. Without self-discipline, there was no difference between a man and a beast.
“Junior Brother Li!”
A voice suddenly cut through the howling wind.
Li Meng turned toward the sound and saw a man and a woman riding a shared sword light, rapidly approaching his position.
Slowing his momentum, Li Meng hovered in mid-air to wait for them.
Wei Zijian brought his sword to a halt and immediately cupped his hands in a respectful salute. “I didn’t expect to encounter Junior Brother Li here by chance!”
Li Meng chuckled, casually stroking his white beard with the indifference of a worldly sage.
His gaze swept over the woman standing beside Senior Brother Wei. She was in the mid Foundation Establishment stage, and her immortal bearing was quite pleasant to the eye.
Noticing Li Meng’s gaze, the female cultivator offered a graceful, deferential smile and bowed.
Li Meng cupped his hands, returning the courtesy. “Senior Brother, Senior Sister, are you two heading out on a mission?”
Wei Zijian straightened his back, his expression turning serious. “Indeed. Recently, several Spirit Stone mines in the Thousand Cloud Mountain Range have grown restless. Many Inner Disciples are being dispatched to secure the area.”
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, the three cultivators parted ways.
“Senior Brother,” the female Inner Disciple asked, glancing back toward the white-haired man fading into the distance. “Is he the Junior Brother Li from Moon Gaze Peak?”
Wei Zijian nodded as he guided their sword through the peaks. “Yes, that is him.”
A flash of intense curiosity appeared in the woman’s eyes. “Senior Brother, his aptitude… it seems rather poor?”
To have a full head of white hair at the Foundation Establishment stage meant Junior Brother Li must have succeeded in his breakthrough at an incredibly advanced age, likely near the end of his natural lifespan.
“Yes,” Wei Zijian confirmed. “Rumor has it that Junior Brother Li possesses the legendary Five Spirit Roots waste physique!”
The female disciple gasped, covering her small mouth in shock. “Heavens! Someone with a Five Spirit Roots waste physique actually managed to reach Foundation Establishment?”
Wei Zijian glanced at his Dao Companion. “Junior Brother Li’s talent in Alchemy is absolutely monstrous. As long as he has a bottomless supply of pills, what difficulty is there in establishing a foundation?”
The woman pursed her lips, a wry smile surfacing. “That’s true. But wanting to form a Golden Core will be next to impossible for him.”
Wei Zijian had no response to that.
Forming a Golden Core was a natural chasm that devoured the dreams of millions. Forget a Five Spirit Roots waste physique—even elite cultivators blessed with Three Spirit Roots or Dual Spirit Roots found it nearly impossible to cross that heavenly divide.
If it were easy, the Sect wouldn’t have so few Golden Core ancestors.
In the blink of an eye, the couple disappeared into the horizon.
Meanwhile, at Moon Gaze Peak.
Li Meng rode the wind down from the sky, his robes fluttering behind him. He landed in the courtyard of the peak’s loft with effortless grace.
As soon as his feet touched the stone tiles, he glanced up toward the upper levels.
Junior Sister Yao was still in Secluded Cultivation. The aura of boiling blood and qi radiating from her room had grown incredibly dense, vibrating through the very air.
It was the distinct phenomenon of breaking through to the Mountain Peak Realm.
Satisfied, Li Meng walked over to his favorite reclining chair in the courtyard and sank into it.
Should I go into Secluded Cultivation too? he wondered lazily.
There were still 3 years before the Kongming Hall opened. If he could break through to the mid Foundation Establishment stage by then, searching for rare spiritual plants within the secret realm would be completely effortless.
Ah, but it would be too much effort right now, wouldn’t it? Li Meng sighed.
He hadn’t even reached a bottleneck yet. Sitting in dull, empty seclusion was utterly meaningless.
Besides, it hadn’t even been a year since he successfully reached Foundation Establishment. If he tried to seclude himself for another major breakthrough so soon, the other disciples would laugh him out of the Sect for his arrogance.
Forget it. I’ll take a nap first.
Li Meng closed his eyes, feigning sleep. Almost instantly, a faint, five-colored spiritual light began to radiate from his body, pulsing in rhythm with his breath.
An unknown amount of time passed before a streak of sword light shot over from the distant horizon.
The light came to a halt just outside the defensive barriers of Moon Gaze Peak.
Looking at the mountain shrouded in churning clouds and mist, Zhang Tianhua hesitated, biting her lip.
Junior Sister Xi was still in Secluded Cultivation. Master had been extremely strict, declaring that she was not allowed to leave until she reached Peak Qi Condensation.
Was it appropriate for her to come looking for Senior Brother Li behind her Junior Sister’s back?
But the path of Talismans was vast and complex. Having a senior provide guidance could save her decades of wasted effort. Master herself had said that in the entire Joyous Union Sect, only Senior Brother Li was qualified to guide her in the Talisman Path.
“S-Senior Brother?” Zhang Tianhua called out toward the peak, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment.
Her voice was slightly nervous, carrying a faint tremble, yet it retained a light, clear, and slightly chilly tone.
In the courtyard, Li Meng slowly opened his eyes.
Junior Sister Zhang is here!
With a thought, the thick mists outside the peak parted, opening a clear passage that led straight to the summit.
Seeing the path open, Zhang Tianhua hurriedly rode the wind inside.
A moment later, a graceful figure drifted down from the sky, landing lightly on the courtyard stones.
“Senior Brother!” Zhang Tianhua said, cupping her hands respectfully toward the man lounging in the chair.
Li Meng glanced at her. She was dressed in a pristine, snow-white Daoist robe. With her unadorned beauty, she looked exactly like an aloof Daoist nun.
While breathtakingly beautiful, she severely lacked the intoxicating charm and seduction that women of the Joyous Union Sect were famous for.
Ah, the perks of being a True Disciple, Li Meng thought with a hint of amusement. You can wear whatever you want.
Outer and Inner Disciples didn’t have that right. Outside the Sect, they could dress as they pleased, but inside the Sect’s borders, they were bound by the uniform.
“Senior Brother,” Zhang Tianhua continued, her voice earnest. “Junior Sister has come specially to seek your guidance on the Talisman Path!”
Li Meng chuckled. With a casual flick of his sleeve, two exquisite sets of tea utensils materialized on the stone table between them.
