Chapter 212: The Third Round of the Inner Sect Grand Competition
Wen Huanhuan’s voice filled the room, a ceaseless stream of fretful reminders and warnings. Listening to Senior Wen’s nagging, Li Meng found himself behaving with unusual docility. He simply held her—her body warm, soft, and yielding against his own.
It was unknown how much time passed before the room finally fell silent.
“You… what are you doing?”
They lay on their sides, facing one another. Seeing Disciple-Nephew Li staring at her with such intensity, Wen Huanhuan offered him a cold, defensive glare.
A faint, teasing smile tugged at Li Meng’s lips. “Senior, may I kiss you?”
Wen Huanhuan’s pupils contracted sharply. A flash of bashful annoyance flickered in her eyes. Old rascal, if you want to kiss, just kiss! Why speak such nonsense?
How was she supposed to answer that?
Seeing her conflicted expression, Li Meng chuckled. He leaned forward, sealing her rosy lips with his own.
Wen Huanhuan’s eyes widened. She cast a sidelong glance at him—This brat, he only knows how to bully me—before symbolically thumping his chest twice with a weak fist.
But as the kiss deepened, Li Meng shifted, pressing her into the mattress. The playfulness dissolved into passionate intimacy, their breaths mingling in the quiet chamber.
After a long while, Li Meng finally pulled back.
Wen Huanhuan’s cheeks were flushed crimson. Facing his burning gaze, she summoned the last shreds of her composure to glare at him.
“Don’t overthink it!”
Li Meng grinned. “Alright. This Junior won’t overthink it.”
He collapsed onto her, burying his face in the astonishing softness of her bosom. The warmth and fragrance were intoxicating, lulling him into a state of blissful content.
Wen Huanhuan’s face turned an even deeper shade of red. Shameless brat.
Yet, she did not push the mischievous Disciple-Nephew away. Her slender, jade-like hand hesitated for a moment before coming to rest gently on his back.
The next morning.
The bed curtains were drawn aside. Wen Huanhuan, appearing somewhat disheveled, stepped down from the bed.
As she arranged her dress, she glanced back at Li Meng, who was still sound asleep. A trace of melancholy flashed through her eyes.
The greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.
Like her, Disciple-Nephew Li was merely someone struggling to protect himself in this cruel world. Was it really the right choice to place her hopes on him?
Seeing him sleeping so peacefully, a sudden wave of irrational annoyance rose in her heart. She climbed back onto the bed, reached out with a slender hand, and pinched his ear.
“Hurry up and get out of bed! Aren’t you participating in the Inner Sect Grand Competition?”
Li Meng’s eyes snapped open. Before she could retreat, he sat up and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her onto his lap.
“Stop fooling around!” Wen Huanhuan, flustered and annoyed, poked him in the forehead. “Go to the Martial Arts Peak immediately!”
Li Meng buried his head in her embrace, taking a deep breath and rubbing his face against the soft fabric of her robes. “Mmm, Senior smells wonderful.”
Helplessness washed over Wen Huanhuan. He was far too unrestrained, too willful in her presence. Why couldn’t she bring herself to teach him a proper lesson?
It took another half hour before the latch of the pavilion door finally clicked.
Li Meng and Wen Huanhuan walked out, one after the other.
“Senior, I’m off then!” Li Meng turned to look at the breathtaking woman one last time.
Wen Huanhuan took an inconspicuous step back, her gaze cold. “Get lost!”
If she didn’t retreat, that brat would certainly try to hug and kiss her again right there in the open. The competition was about to start; he had no time to waste.
Li Meng chuckled and flicked his sleeves. “Senior, as you command!”
With a leap, he rode the wind, his yellow robes fluttering as he shot into the sky. In the blink of an eye, he vanished into the clouds and mist.
Wen Huanhuan stood in the courtyard, watching the spot where he had disappeared long after he was gone. Only when she was certain he was far away did she summon her own escape light and fly toward the peak’s exit.
Joyous Union Sect, Inner Sect Territory. Martial Arts Peak.
Early in the morning, the peak was already bustling with activity. Streaks of sword light descended from all directions as Inner and Outer Disciples flooded the viewing platforms surrounding the Martial Arena.
“Junior Uncle Li is too bizarre, isn’t he? He’s only at early Foundation Establishment, yet he actually advanced to the third round!”
“Tch, you’re making a fuss over nothing. With the Top Grade Magical Artifacts Junior Uncle Li possesses, reaching the top five is expected.”
“Master Iron Ox of Moon Gaze Peak truly lives up to his reputation.”
“I heard Master Iron Ox is Grandmaster Ruoshui’s Dao Companion. Is that true?”
“Don’t sully Grandmaster Ruoshui’s name! That can’t possibly be true.”
Li Meng, the dark horse of yesterday’s matches, was the primary topic of conversation. His ability to crush opponents despite his lower cultivation base had astonished everyone.
“If we’re talking about bizarre, isn’t Senior Sister Qi even more terrifying?”
“Yes, exactly! What do you think is going on with her?”
“I don’t know, it’s unsettling.”
“Senior Sister Qi looks so cute… who would have thought her methods could be so horrific?”
Amidst the fervent discussions, the third round of the Inner Sect Grand Competition commenced.
Mu Jiu’er’s gentle voice projected from the Name List Stele, echoing clearly across the peak.
“The third round of the Inner Sect Grand Competition officially begins. The rules remain the same: The challenged cannot refuse. The loser is eliminated. This competition determines victory or defeat, not life or death. Malicious killing and severing another’s Immortal Fate are strictly forbidden. Violators will be severely punished by the Enforcement Hall!”
On a peak to the north of the Martial Arena, Qi Wei stood at the cliff’s edge, scanning the crowd.
“Where is Senior Brother? Why hasn’t he arrived yet?”
The third round had already started, yet Li Meng was nowhere to be seen. Behind her, Yao Ning and the others were also searching for his figure. Yesterday, he had mentioned meeting someone, but he had given no details.
Xue Ruyu turned to Qi Wei. “Senior Sister, you should go challenge someone immediately. Let Senior Brother have the bye.”
There were seventeen names on the Name List Stele for the third round. In a bracket of one-on-one matches, one person would inevitably remain without an opponent—a “bye.” This lucky individual would advance automatically to the fourth round.
If Li Meng didn’t show up in time to fight, he would be disqualified unless he was the one left over. If Qi Wei and the others aggressively challenged opponents, they could manipulate the pool to ensure Li Meng was the odd one out.
Qi Wei’s eyes lit up. “Alright!”
Just as she prepared to ride the wind down to the arena, another disciple whose name was on the stele entered the ring first.
“Senior Brother Du Mo! Do you dare come down for a battle?”
The challenger, an Inner Disciple named Zhang Hu, looked up at the stands.
“What is there to fear!”
A hearty laugh rang out from the crowd as a figure rode the wind into the Martial Arena. The two men stood facing each other, separated by fifty zhang.
Du Mo grinned at his challenger. “Zhang Hu, for you to actively challenge me… you want to add some stakes, don’t you? Speak.”
Zhang Hu glanced up toward a specific spot in the audience, his eyes lingering on a Senior Sister wearing a purple rainbow dress.
He turned back to Du Mo with a determined smile. “Alright, then this Junior Brother won’t stand on ceremony. Senior Brother knows that I have always admired Senior Sister Cai. If I win, Senior Brother will forfeit his right to pursue her. If I lose, I will never appear before Senior Sister Cai again. Do we have a deal?”
A trace of disdain flashed in Du Mo’s eyes. He had expected as much.
