Chapter 271: Liju Island and the Fat Shopkeeper
“Could it be that the two Supreme Elders from Qingtian Peak have also arrived?”
Li Meng muttered to himself as he stood by the bed, adjusting his robes.
The Joyous Union Sect possessed five Supreme Elders in total.
There was Supreme Elder Nangong Wan of Masked Moon Peak.
Supreme Elder Liu Ruyan of Danwang Peak.
Supreme Elder Su Zhi of Broken Cliff Peak.
And finally, the two Supreme Elders of Qingtian Peak, Lu Qingyun and Su Yueli.
The two from Qingtian Peak had a penchant for wandering the world. They rarely returned to the Sect, making their presence a rarity.
“I’ve heard Ancestor Su is also a peerless beauty, ranked third on the Immortal Beauty Ranking. I wonder what she actually looks like.”
Li Meng flicked his sleeve.
*Bang.*
The window slammed shut with a sharp report.
He turned and strode out of the room.
Moments later, from a room on the middle floor of the pavilion, two figures—one large, one small—leapt from the window. Riding the wind, they soared toward the Market City located on the island.
“Senior Brother, where did you go just now? Why did you take so long?”
Hovering about ten zhang above the sea, Li Meng and Qi Wei streaked across the sky.
“And you have the scent of women on you,” Qi Wei continued, sniffing the air. “Not just one. It’s the scent of two different women.”
A flicker of surprise passed through Li Meng’s eyes.
*Was Junior Sister a dog in her previous life?*
It was terrifying enough that she could detect two distinct scents. Smelling Senior Wen was understandable, but Senior Sister Jiang had merely touched him once. Afterward, he had spent a considerable amount of time rolling in the sheets with Senior Wen. Logically, Senior Sister Jiang’s scent should have been completely masked or dissipated by now.
Could his Junior Sister really smell that, too?
Li Meng looked at his Junior Sister with a beaming smile. “Children shouldn’t ask about adult matters!”
Qi Wei pouted slightly and turned her head away. “Hmph, fine! If you won’t say, I won’t ask!”
***
Sleeping Dragon Island.
Dragon Head Bay.
Liju Island Market City.
With the Kongming Hall about to open, Liju Island was once again welcoming the grand occasion of a hundred sects gathering, an event not seen for over two hundred years.
On the crisscrossing streets of the Market City, cultivators bustled about as thick as mortal crowds.
Magnificent pavilions of varying sizes lined the streets, imposing and grand. They seemed to be competing for dominance, each built taller than the last.
Occasionally, a pleasure house stood out as the most eye-catching structure in the Market City. Red ribbons fluttered from the upper floors, and from time to time, multicolored flower petals drifted down, filling the surrounding streets with an exotic, intoxicating fragrance.
“Senior Brother, it’s so lively!”
Amidst the bustling crowd, a spirited and adorable little Daoist child walked unhurriedly, holding the hand of an old man in yellow robes who possessed a sage-like appearance—white hair and a youthful face.
The two looked around, seemingly finding novelty in everything they saw.
“Senior Brother, Senior Brother, what are we going to do now?” Qi Wei looked up at him.
Li Meng scanned the shops lining both sides of the street. Every storefront pulsed with the Spiritual Power fluctuations of natural treasures. However, the quantity was too vast and the quality too mixed to easily distinguish the best.
He turned his gaze to a pavilion on the right. The plaque above the door bore five large characters: “Lü’s Beast Materials Studio.”
The name alone indicated it was a place for trading Demon Beast resources.
“Let’s go. We’ll buy Demon Beast materials first. We’ll sweep through them one by one!”
Li Meng pulled his Junior Sister toward Lü’s Beast Materials Studio.
His Sub-professions had all advanced to the fourth rank. The variety of Formations and Talismans available to him had increased significantly, and his artifact refining skills now extended to Spirit Treasures.
The Kongming Hall would be fraught with hidden dangers. Only by crafting a stockpile of fourth-rank Talismans could he truly guarantee their safety.
The threshold of Lü’s Beast Materials Studio was high, both literally and figuratively. The two of them stepped over it and entered the pavilion.
“Oh my, two guests of such extraordinary bearing! One look tells me you are accomplished Immortals on the Great Dao. What might you be looking for today?”
The sound of footsteps at the entrance caught the attention of the shopkeeper.
He was a fat man dressed in luxurious brocade robes. His face was so chubby that his eyes were squeezed into mere slits by the encroaching flesh. His limbs appeared comically short, and as he emerged from behind the counter, the fat on his body trembled with every step.
The smile he forced onto his face looked rather ridiculous.
The shopkeeper trotted over to greet them, spewing ingratiating words.
Li Meng swept his gaze across the main hall. The furnishings were quite impressive, hinting at the wealth behind the establishment.
The fat shopkeeper bowed with clasped hands toward Li Meng, his expression fawning as he stepped aside to clear the path.
Li Meng looked down at the rotund man. “Do you have fifth, sixth, and seventh-rank Demon Beast materials?”
The fat shopkeeper’s eyes lit up.
*Oho, big business has arrived.*
Truly a young master from the Tianlan Continent. Even his tone exuded a hint of arrogant wealth. Although this customer looked elderly—likely someone with average aptitude who only achieved Foundation Establishment late in life—the little Daoist child beside him had an extraordinary aura. To possess early Foundation Establishment cultivation at such a tender age was no small feat.
“We do, we do! May I ask what attribute the guest requires? As you know, deep-sea Demon Beasts are primarily water-attribute. Other attributes aren’t unavailable, but they are relatively rare compared to water. As for the price… naturally, rarity dictates value.”
“I want them all. What is the price?”
“What?”
The fat shopkeeper’s face froze. Had he heard correctly?
*All… all of them?*
Li Meng frowned slightly. “What? Does your noble establishment limit sales?”
The fat shopkeeper hurriedly shook his fleshy head, his cheeks wobbling. “Absolutely no such rule exists! Guest, are you certain you want everything?”
Li Meng flicked his sleeve dismissively. “Say no more. Draw up a list for me. If the price is suitable, I will take it all.”
The fat shopkeeper’s heart leaped with joy.
*My goodness, a true whale has swum in today.*
Could this be a representative from a Tianlan Continent merchant guild here to sweep the market? The shopkeeper sized Li Meng up again. He didn’t seem like it; the man lacked the shrewd scent of a merchant.
Regardless, the shopkeeper quickly bowed deeply. “Two honored guests, please, come inside!”
He led the way, with Li Meng and Qi Wei following close behind. The trio left the main hall one after another.
The fat shopkeeper ushered them into a private reception room.
“Guest, please take the seat of honor. Please wait a moment!”
The shopkeeper’s face was piled high with smiles, and he spoke with his back permanently bent in a bow. His service attitude was truly impeccable.
Li Meng sat in the main seat, while Qi Wei climbed onto a nearby couch.
The fat shopkeeper looked toward the door and clapped his chubby hands twice.
*Clap, clap.*
Figures moved outside, and two maidservants in green dresses entered, carrying tea sets and spirit fruits.
“Hurry, serve the tea. You two stay here and attend to our guests!”
“Yes!” the maidservants responded in delicate, melodious voices.
The fat shopkeeper turned back to Li Meng, beaming. “Guest, please wait a moment. I shall go and prepare the list!”
Li Meng maintained a calm expression and waved his hand. “Go.”
The fat shopkeeper retreated backward, bowing fawningly for a full five steps before turning and scurrying away. His obese body swayed and wobbled with a distinctive rhythm as he walked.
Qi Wei covered her mouth, stifling a giggle. The shopkeeper was simply too comical. But she couldn’t laugh out loud; that would be rude.
Li Meng glanced at his Junior Sister, then looked at the maidservant pouring tea beside him.
Her appearance was quite pleasing. She was no mortal, but a cultivator at the seventh layer of Qi Condensation. In a place like Sleeping Dragon Island, mortals simply could not exist.
Li Meng lifted the teacup and took a slow sip.
