Chapter 242: Sheng Shui’er’s Wild Thoughts
Sheng Shui’er certainly did not share her younger sister’s cheerful mood.
She sat stiffly, unsure how to interact with Li Meng. The weight of their secret agreement pressed on her mind, and she didn’t know if she should find an opportunity to fulfill it now or wait for him to demand it.
Li Meng’s gaze swept over the two sisters, his expression serious.
“Your cultivation has already reached Peak Qi Condensation. As the saying goes, ‘One step slow, every step slow.’ You two have wasted too much time in the mortal world. For us cultivators, worldly affairs are as fleeting as smoke and clouds. You must consider your choices carefully.”
The sisters fell silent.
He was right. They had lingered in the mortal realm far too long. Although they hadn’t neglected their cultivation, reaching Peak Qi Condensation, most cultivators at their stage would already be preparing for Foundation Establishment. They, however, had prepared nothing.
Sheng Shui’er picked up the teapot and poured a cup for Li Meng, a bitter smile touching her lips.
“Senior Brother should understand… we cannot return to the Sect anytime soon.”
Although they had just awakened, Sheng Shui’er sensed the grim, murderous atmosphere pervading Prince Qi’s mansion. She had questioned her mother and the guards. Though the soldiers remained tight-lipped, her mother had revealed the terrifying truth of Lin’an City.
The Emperor was dead.
The official story was “sudden illness,” but Sheng Shui’er guessed the truth. Li Meng was involved.
She remembered being taken to the palace by the Imperial Astronomy Bureau’s occultists. She remembered the Empress Dowager’s invitation, the drugged tea, and the darkness that followed.
Why were they taken? Why the secrecy? The truth was buried, but one thing was clear: Li Meng had saved them, and the Emperor had died the same night.
If the Emperor of Zhao truly died at Li Meng’s hands… could he bear the karmic backlash? History was littered with cultivators who killed Human Emperors, only to die in inexplicable calamities shortly after. Sometimes, even their entire Sects were wiped out.
Li Meng flicked his sleeve.
Swish.
Two Storage Bags flew out from his Sword Nurturing Gourd, landing on the tea table in front of the sisters.
“These are Foundation Establishment resources I prepared for you. You can attempt your breakthrough here in Prince Qi’s mansion.”
Although Foundation Establishment caused a significant commotion, for a Formation Master like Li Meng, concealing the phenomenon was trivial.
The sisters looked into the bags.
Sheng Zi’er’s pupils contracted sharply.
“This…”
Inside were rows of jade bottles, each containing Top-Grade Pills. Foundation Establishment Pills, Spirit Gathering Pills, Meridians Protecting Pills… all of the highest quality.
She looked at Li Meng in disbelief. She knew he was an Alchemist, but to casually hand out such treasures? This was beyond generous—it was extravagant.
“Se… Senior Brother, this is too precious!” Sheng Zi’er stammered, her eyes burning with desire. With these resources, failure was impossible.
Sheng Shui’er remained calm, though her heart raced. She looked at Li Meng with a complex expression.
“Senior Brother, one should not accept rewards without merit. We cannot accept this.”
Such resources always came with a price. She didn’t know what Li Meng wanted, but she had to protect her sister.
Li Meng smiled at her. He knew she was thinking about their transaction. Her wariness was normal.
He turned to Sheng Zi’er.
“Junior Sister Zi’er, this is my gift to you. Do you want it?”
Facing his warm, smiling gaze, Sheng Zi’er’s cheeks flushed.
“I… thank you, Senior Brother!”
She grabbed the bag and stowed it away before her sister could stop her.
“Younger Sister! You…” Sheng Shui’er stared at her in shock. She just took it?!
Beside Li Meng, Qi Wei pouted.
Why give them resources for no reason?
She couldn’t understand his motive. The herbs for those pills were harvested by her in the Bloody Forbidden Domain, risking life and limb! And he just gave them away?
Hmph. Senior Brother is a big fool. Stupid!
She turned her head away, refusing to look at him.
Li Meng noticed her little tantrum. He reached out and patted her head. He couldn’t explain everything to her right now, but a little coaxing later would fix it. Qi Wei’s anger never lasted long.
Qi Wei glared at him but didn’t push his hand away.
Sheng Zi’er smiled shyly at her stunned sister.
“Senior Brother isn’t an outsider! Senior Brother… this is what you gave me. I won’t refuse!”
Her voice dropped to a whisper at the end, and she lowered her head, too shy to meet his eyes.
Li Meng chuckled, stroking his beard. “Very good.”
“Younger Sister!” Sheng Shui’er glared, wanting to scold her but unable to explain why she should refuse.
Li Meng looked at the angry Sheng Shui’er.
“If you want to know the reason, Junior Sister, go ask Princess Consort Qi. You will find your answer there.”
Mother?
Sheng Shui’er frowned. Had her mother made a deal with Li Meng?
She looked at the remaining Storage Bag on the table. Her expression fluctuated, but finally, she sighed and waved her hand, storing it away.
They spent the next hour drinking tea and discussing the Dao, though Sheng Shui’er remained distracted. Soon, she bid farewell and dragged her sister away.

Prince Qi’s Mansion, Waterside Retreat
“Mother… how did you become a cultivator?”
In the upper room of the lakeside pavilion, Sheng Shui’er stared at Wei Yushu in shock.
Her mother was sitting cross-legged on the bed, meditating. And she was undeniably a Qi Condensation First Layer cultivator. Her aura was stable, her breathing rhythmic.
Wei Yushu opened her eyes and smiled gently. She got off the bed, her figure swaying elegantly as she walked to the window seat. She leaned against the sill, looking out at the sparkling lake.
“Becoming a cultivator was always my long-cherished wish,” she said softly. “The Immortal Master fulfilled it for me.”
Li… Senior Brother Li?
Sheng Shui’er looked at her mother incredulously.
“But… didn’t Mother lack Spiritual Roots?”
