Li Meng changed his hand seals again.
Hum.
The blue glow of the Five Elements Ring faded, replaced by a heavy, earthen yellow light.
“ROAR!”
A deafening dragon’s roar resonated through the heavens and earth, shaking the bamboo grove.
The ring expanded and twisted, transforming into a massive Earth Dragon, easily twenty zhang in length. Its scales were rough like granite, its eyes glowing with primal energy. It looked lifelike, indistinguishable from the True Dragons of legend.
“Currently, it only possesses the form of a True Dragon, not the true pressure,” Li Meng explained critically, observing his creation. “If I can obtain the essence of a Flood Dragon in the future and fuse it into the artifact, it will gain the ‘Dragon’s Might,’ significantly increasing the power of this divine ability.”
Standing nearby, Chen Lan swallowed hard, her eyes wide.
It truly is a Top Grade Magical Artifact, she thought, trembling slightly. To possess so many terrifying forms…
Li Meng changed his seals once more.
Poof.
The massive Earth Dragon dissipated into motes of light, reforming into the small ring, which flew back toward the courtyard.
It stopped in front of them, hovering at eye level. Suddenly, it erupted with a dazzling, brilliant golden light.
“The Evil-Warding Divine Light,” Li Meng said. “It is the bane of all ghosts and spirits, and it also functions as an absolute defense.”
The ring spun rapidly, the golden light condensing until the artifact resembled a floating golden mirror hovering protectively above their heads.
With a final wave of his hand, Li Meng dispersed the magic. The golden light faded, and the ring shrank down to the size of a delicate bracelet, drifting gently into his palm.
He took Chen Lan’s left hand, sliding the cool metal onto her wrist.
“Refine it properly,” he instructed softly. “Achieve a Soul Connection as soon as possible. Only then can you truly command its full potential.”
Chen Lan stared blankly at the bracelet on her wrist. The warmth of his fingers still lingered on her skin.
Suddenly, a thought struck her. Her eyes widened in shock.
“Wait… wait!”
She looked up at him, her breath hitching. “Senior Brother, you said this ring was ‘specially customized’ for me. Does that mean… you refined it yourself?”
Li Meng raised an eyebrow, smiling faintly.
“Senior Brother… you are also an Artificer?”
Chen Lan looked at him as if he were a monster. Talismans. Alchemy. And now Artifact Refining?
“This… isn’t this too monstrous?”
Li Meng chuckled, reaching out to gently scrape the bridge of her nose.
“Didn’t I tell you? The Masked Moon Peak lineage only has one male disciple.”
The realization hit Chen Lan like a thunderbolt.
Masked Moon Peak had only one male disciple. Moon Gaze Peak had a mysterious Artificer named “Master Iron Ox.”
Master Iron Ox did not exist.
Master Iron Ox was Senior Brother.
Senior Brother was Master Iron Ox.
Chen Lan’s expression grew complex, a mix of awe and overwhelming emotion. Senior Brother always brought her surprises. He was an endless well of secrets, and he had shared this one with her.
Her cheeks flushed a deep, alluring red. She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, her voice dropping to a whisper.
“Senior Brother… it’s getting late. We should rest.”
She knew Senior Brother enjoyed that kind of activity. It was the only way she could repay him for his incredible generosity.
Li Meng looked down at the blushing beauty in his arms. A wicked, mischievous grin spread across his face.
“Junior Sister, be warned. Senior Brother won’t show any mercy tonight. Don’t cry later.”
Chen Lan pursed her lips, fighting back a smile. She cast a sultry, challenging glance at him.
“Senior Brother, this Junior Sister doesn’t think she will lose.”
In matters of the bed… how could she possibly lose?
“Is that so?” Li Meng’s grin widened. “Then let’s wait and see.”
He swept her up into a princess carry.
Bang!
He kicked the pavilion doors open and strode inside, carrying her into the darkness.
Although the courtyard of Sunset Glow Peak fell silent, it wasn’t long before the pavilion itself began to echo with new, rhythmic sounds.
The night deepened.
The next day, the sun hung high in the sky.
“So, Senior Brother… did Junior Sister lose last night? Or did Senior Brother lose?”
In the master bedroom on the upper floor, Chen Lan lay draped across Li Meng’s chest, tracing circles on his skin. She looked up at his slightly haggard face with a teasing half-smile.
A flicker of guilty conscience flashed through Li Meng’s eyes.
“You… you little girl,” he grumbled, though his arm tightened around her possessively. “I underestimated you. To think you could fight Senior Brother to a standstill… Next time, I will definitely make you beg for mercy! I’ll let you know Senior Brother’s true prowess!”
Given the age gap, calling her “little girl” felt strangely appropriate.
Hearing the endearment, Chen Lan’s face flushed red, but her gaze melted into water. It made her feel cherished, doted on like a precious treasure.
Seeing his blustering, unwilling-to-admit-defeat expression, she covered her mouth and giggled.
“Fine, fine. Let’s call it a draw this time. Next time, Junior Sister will compete with Senior Brother again to decide the victor!”
Her words made Li Meng feel even more guilty.
Next time… I might not win either, he thought with a mental grimace. Boasting is one thing, but actual operations are a different beast entirely.
“Cough. Anyway,” Li Meng quickly changed the subject. “Junior Sister, did Junior Brother Lu succeed in his Foundation Establishment?”
Seeing him bring up her former cultivation partner, Chen Lan didn’t shy away.
She and Lu were merely “Dao Exchange” partners—Dual Cultivation for the sake of progress. There had been a possibility of it becoming romantic once, but that bridge had long since burned. Now, there was zero chance.
“Mm. Senior Brother Lu also successfully established his Foundation.”
Li Meng nodded slowly, his hand idly stroking her jet-black hair. A thoughtful expression settled on his face.
Chen Lan watched him, sensing his silence.
“Senior Brother, what are you thinking about?”
Is he jealous? she wondered. No, Senior Brother isn’t a suspicious man. He knows the nature of that relationship.
Li Meng looked down, a warm, lazy smile returning to his lips.
“Nothing serious. I was just wondering… what if Junior Sister gets pregnant with my child?”
Ch… Child?
Chen Lan’s face turned scarlet instantly.
“N-No way… right?” she stammered.
Cultivators had immense difficulty conceiving. The higher the realm, the harder it became to leave behind offspring. It was the price of defying the heavens.
“What? Junior Sister isn’t willing to give Senior Brother a child?” he teased.
Chen Lan looked up, shooting him a shy, reproachful glare.
“How could Junior Sister be unwilling?” she whispered, her voice turning serious. “It’s just… if I really do get pregnant, Senior Brother must give me a status. A… a concubine status is enough.”
She didn’t dare hope to be his official Dao Companion. But if there was a child, she needed to secure a future for it. If there was no child, she didn’t care about titles; being his confidante and lover was enough. But a mother had to protect her child.
Li Meng looked at her, his heart softening. He gently rubbed her head.
Maxed out Affection is truly formidable, he mused. Her body and mind belong completely to me.
“Ah, Junior Sister… what should I do?” Li Meng sighed, looking dramatically troubled.
“Senior Brother, wh-what’s wrong?” Chen Lan tensed up. Had she said something wrong? Was asking for concubine status too greedy?
Li Meng smiled, his eyes gentle as he traced the line of her jaw.
“Junior Sister, Senior Brother seems to have fallen in love with you. What do you think we should do?”
Senior Brother… loves me?
Chen Lan froze. A brilliant light sparked in her eyes, followed by a wave of shy joy. Her eyes curved into happy crescents.
She rolled her eyes at him again, but this time it was purely flirtatious.
“If you love, then you love. Junior Sister will love Senior Brother back,” she said with a carefree laugh. “Anyway… it’s not a bad thing!”
She really is free-spirited, Li Meng thought admiringly. If she can be this open, I should be too.
He lowered his head and planted a loud, wet kiss on her cheek.
Smack.
“You’re right. It’s not a bad thing at all!”
Chen Lan’s cheeks burned. She leaned up and returned the kiss on his cheek.
Li Meng kissed her again.
She kissed him back, refusing to be outdone.
Back and forth they went, playful pecks turning deeper and hungrier, until they were locked in a passionate embrace once more.
