Chapter 126: Zhao Kuo and Leng Yixue

Pacing through her stake-walking routine and throwing measured punches, Yao Ning stole a quiet glance at her Senior Brother. A faint blush dusted her cheeks. Some questions were simply too embarrassing to voice. It was better to pretend nothing had happened at all.

In the days that followed, Yao Ning settled into life on Moon Gaze Peak. During the day, dark clouds roiled overhead, and the rumble of thunder never ceased. Only when night finally fell did the peak welcome a brief, fleeting tranquility.

On this particular day, a pair of Dao Companions arrived. Both were Inner Disciples of the Joyous Union Sect. Riding the wind, they descended gracefully and touched down in the courtyard with barely a whisper of displaced air.

“Greetings, Junior Brother!” The couple offered a respectful salute with clasped hands toward Li Meng, who sat unhurriedly sipping tea at the stone table.

Li Meng cast a measured glance over them. Their aptitudes were impressive—both possessed dual spirit roots, a talent second only to a Heavenly Spirit Root. The man was a late Foundation Establishment cultivator, while the woman had reached the Grand Perfection of the late Foundation Establishment stage.

Li Meng’s gaze lingered on the Senior Sister. She possessed a rare, high-tier beauty, but it was her temperament that stood out. She completely lacked the languid, seductive aura typical of the Joyous Union Sect’s female disciples. Instead, she carried the quiet, aloof grace of an immortal from an orthodox Daoist sect.

The Path of Emotionlessness? Li Meng thought, inwardly calculating.

Smiling warmly, he withdrew his gaze and offered a sweeping, graceful flick of his sleeve. “Senior Brother, Senior Sister, please take a seat.”

The pair sat opposite him at the tea table. Zhao Kuo’s eyes drifted toward the woman practicing her martial forms a short distance away.

Stake-walking and fist techniques? A body cultivator? he mused. What a stunning woman. Sensing his scrutiny, Yao Ning paused and shot him an expressionless look. Unfazed by her frosty glare, Zhao Kuo offered a polite smile and a nod. Yao Ning ignored him, seamlessly resuming her relentless routine.

Zhao Kuo cupped his fists. “I am Zhao Kuo.”

Leng Yixue mirrored the gesture. “Leng Yixue.”

Emitting a soft chuckle that matched his sage-like aura, Li Meng returned the salute. “Li Meng.”

As they lowered their hands, Li Meng looked expectantly at the man. “May I ask what brings Senior Brother and Senior Sister to my humble peak today?”

Zhao Kuo deferred to his Dao Companion with a glance. Leng Yixue met Li Meng’s eyes, her voice completely devoid of emotional fluctuation.

“Ever since our Master passed away in Sitting Death two years ago, his wife has been trapped in a deep depression. She drowns her sorrows in wine daily, her Dao Heart utterly shattered. Ten days ago, she mistakenly consumed a vintage of spirit wine that Master had kept tightly sealed. She fell into a deep slumber and has not woken since. We consulted the Alchemists in the sect, but they were entirely helpless. Having heard rumors that Junior Brother excels at treating the obscure and complicated ailments of cultivators, we came to Moon Gaze Peak to seek your aid.”

Me? Skilled in treating complicated ailments? Li Meng muttered inwardly, maintaining his serene facade. Since when did I gain that reputation?

He picked up his teacup, taking a slow, measured sip. Cultivators rarely fell ill in the mortal sense. Their “diseases” were almost always severe hidden traumas caused by cultivation backlashes or spiritual corruption. If a mere spirit wine had induced a coma, she had undoubtedly ingested something highly volatile.

“If Junior Brother can awaken her, we will undoubtedly offer a generous reward,” Zhao Kuo added.

Li Meng set his cup down and gently shook his head. “If a Golden Core Senior encounters trouble, this junior naturally cannot refuse to offer his meager strength. I will accompany you to take a look, but I must warn you—I cannot make any promises.”

Leng Yixue nodded. “We understand.”

In truth, she and Zhao Kuo were grasping at straws, hoping a blind cat might stumble upon a dead mouse. Li Meng was only at the early Foundation Establishment stage. If even Golden Core Alchemists were stumped, how could this Junior Brother possibly possess the means to save her?

“Time is of the essence,” Li Meng said, rising to his feet with fluid grace. “Let us depart.”

Zhao Kuo and Leng Yixue followed suit. Summoning their spiritual energy, the trio rode the wind, soaring away from the peak.

“Junior Sister, I will return shortly!” Li Meng’s voice drifted down to Yao Ning just as he vanished into the rolling mists.

Suddenly, a streak of brilliant golden light shot out from the clouds, descending toward her. It was a gleaming, golden Talisman. Instantly, the dark clouds hovering above the courtyard began to violently churn.

“Senior Brother!” Yao Ning stamped her foot, letting out a rare, slightly coquettish complaint.

CRASH!

The only response she received was a deafening crack of thunder as a bolt of lightning descended ruthlessly from the heavens, forcing her straight back into her brutal training.

Joyous Union Sect, Inner Sect.

Embrace Moon Peak served as the immortal cave of a Golden Core cultivator, and its majesty was undeniable. The mountain was a slender, towering monolith, its four sides dropping away into impossibly steep precipices. It looked like a titan’s sword thrust violently into the earth.

The trio hovered in the air just beyond the peak’s perimeter. Leng Yixue retrieved a jade token from her robes. The moment it flared with spiritual light, the dense sea of clouds encircling the summit parted, carving out a clear passageway. They rode the wind straight through the gap.

The scenery atop Embrace Moon Peak was breathtaking. The summit boasted winding streams, manicured rockeries, and a sprawling, vibrant peach blossom forest. Nestled deep within this pink canopy lay an elegant pavilion. The three cultivators flew swiftly over the blooming trees, their robes fluttering in the wind like descending immortals.

They touched down in the courtyard just outside the pavilion. Leng Yixue immediately strode toward the main doors. Zhao Kuo, however, hung back, taking a seat at a nearby stone table.

With a soft creak, Leng Yixue pushed the heavy wooden doors open. She paused at the threshold and glanced back. “Junior Brother Li, follow me.”

Li Meng cast a brief look at Zhao Kuo before stepping into the dimly lit interior, trailing close behind her. They ascended to the upper floor of the pavilion. Leng Yixue pushed open another door and stepped inside. Li Meng followed silently.

The room was furnished simply, possessing an aged, unadorned elegance. Next to the window sat a large bed.

Lying atop the silken sheets was a woman draped in a flowing red dress. The vibrant crimson sharply contrasted with her pale skin, making her look both breathtakingly alive and entirely surreal—like a tragic bride awaiting her wedding day in eternal slumber.
