Chapter 262: Junior Sister’s Heart Knot
Qi Wei stopped in her tracks, her lower lip jutting out in a monumental pout.
“Hmph! I’m not a child!”
Li Meng looked at her with a beaming smile, opening his arms wider. “If you don’t come over, Senior Brother is going to stand up and leave.”
Qi Wei’s eyes darted around. Reluctantly, she shuffled forward and threw her small body into his embrace, her arms wrapping tight around his neck.
Li Meng stood up, lifting her effortlessly. He walked to the window, the sea breeze ruffling his hair.
Qi Wei leaned in and sniffed his robes. She frowned.
“Senior Brother, why don’t you have the scent of pills on you?”
Suspicion flashed in her eyes. He had been gone for half a year to refine pills with the Ancestor. Why did he smell like… nothing? Just fresh air and the faint scent of ozone.
Did he not refine pills? Then what was he doing for six months?
Li Meng placed her on the windowsill and sat sideways next to her, looking out at the magnificent ocean. He flicked her forehead gently.
“What are you thinking blindly? I don’t smell like pills, but I don’t smell like other women either, right?”
Qi Wei twitched her nose, sniffing again. Her eyes curved into happy crescents.
“That’s true! So, what did you do?”
“Refining pills, of course.”
“Then why no scent?”
“It’s related to a treasure,” Li Meng explained mysteriously. “A bronze cauldron.”
“The Ancestor’s Bronze Mystic Cauldron?” Qi Wei’s eyes widened. “I saw it once at Pill King Peak!”
They chatted idly until night fell. The stars emerged, mirroring the phosphorescent waves below.
“Senior Brother, I’m going back to my room,” Qi Wei announced, hopping off the table. She downed the last of her tea like a shot of liquor.
Li Meng looked at her in surprise. “Oh? Junior Sister isn’t going to cling to me tonight?”
Usually, she demanded they cultivate the Shocking God Art together. Even if the gains were minimal, she never missed a chance.
Qi Wei crossed her arms and gave him a cold, haughty look.
“Senior Brother has been refining pills for half a year. Your Soul Exhaustion is too great. You have lost the qualification to Dual Cultivate with me tonight.”
Li Meng sighed dramatically, shaking his head. He drank his own tea with a bitter expression.
“Is Junior Sister really going to be so heartless?”
“Otherwise?”
Li Meng glanced at the bed, then back at her with a grin.
“How about Senior Brother just accompanies you to sleep? No cultivation. Just sleep.”
Qi Wei’s cheeks flushed. She glanced at the big, soft bed.
“It… it’s not impossible.”
Li Meng smiled and stood up. He walked over to his tiny Junior Sister, who stretched out her arms expectantly. He scooped her up and carried her to the bed.
“Senior Brother, you were so funny just now!” she giggled.
“Senior Brother knows your little thoughts all too well.”
Qi Wei pouted. “It’s not like we haven’t slept together before.”
A sentence that could cause misunderstandings anywhere else, but here, it was innocent.
“Senior Brother, is your soul really okay?” she whispered as he tucked her in.
“It’s fine. It will recover slowly.”
Late Night
The Heaven-Reaching Spirit Boat was a streak of light in the dark sky. Inside the room, the bed curtains were drawn.
Qi Wei lay wide awake, staring at the canopy. After a long while, she turned to look at Li Meng. His breathing was uneven; he wasn’t asleep either.
“Senior Brother.”
Her childish voice broke the silence.
Li Meng opened his eyes and turned to her. “What’s wrong, Junior Sister?”
Qi Wei smiled. “Nothing. I just wanted to talk.”
“What do you want to talk about?”
“I remembered the first time I saw you,” she said softly. “In the Thousand Treasure Pavilion. You were thin and old. Really ugly.”
Li Meng chuckled. “I was an old man near his limit. I couldn’t help being ugly.”
Qi Wei turned fully toward him, her expression turning serious.
“Senior Brother… Master said I possess a special constitution. That I am destined to walk the Great Dao alone. I didn’t believe her before. I did willful things, and bad things happened. Since then, I never left her side.”
She reached out, grabbing his sleeve tightly.
“Only after meeting you did that change. Senior Brother… I cling to you like this. Do you find me annoying?”
She looked at him with naked fear. She was a coward. She was terrified he would confirm her worst nightmare. Even if he lied, she wanted him to lie forever.
The smile vanished from Li Meng’s face. He had never seen such complexity in her eyes—fear, hope, insecurity.
He reached out and flicked her forehead. Hard.
“Ouch!” Qi Wei yelped, covering her head with both hands. She looked at him with aggrieved teary eyes.
“Junior Sister,” Li Meng said, his voice warm and steady. “Do you know why I like calling you ‘Junior Sister’?”
“W-why?”
“I may have many Junior Sisters,” he said, rubbing the spot he had flicked, “but there is only one You.”
Qi Wei stared at him blankly.
The fear in her eyes dissolved. She covered her mouth and giggled, her eyes curving into crescents. She scrambled into his arms, burying her face in his chest.
“I knew it! I’m so cute, how could Senior Brother possibly dislike me!”
Li Meng tapped her nose dotingly. “You’re quite self-aware.”
“Of course! I’m very smart!”

Li Meng held her close, his expression shifting.
So that was her heart knot? The fear of being abandoned to a lonely path?
They talked late into the night, their whispers filling the room until sleep finally claimed them both.
In the days that followed, Li Meng finally enjoyed some leisure. By day, he strolled the deck or discussed the Dao with Qi Wei. By night, they cultivated the Shocking God Art, their bond stronger than ever.
