Chapter 182: Junior Brother! There Are Some Things I Cannot Comprehend
“There is no rush. Let us first discuss the Dao, Senior Brother!”
“As you wish, Senior Brother.”
Zhang Tianhua walked gracefully toward the tea table and took a seat.
“Junior Sister, what Tier of Talismans can you currently draw?” Li Meng asked, pouring them each a cup.
“Second Tier.”
“And your success rate with medium-grade Talismans?”
“Two or three out of ten.”
Li Meng stroked his beard, nodding in approval. “Hmm, not bad. Truly worthy of an Innate Dao Body!”
In the days that followed, the two immersed themselves in a deep discussion of the Dao within the sunlit courtyard.
Li Meng asked, and Zhang Tianhua answered.
Every topic revolved around the profound intricacies of Talismans. If a bystander had been present, they would have found the conversation utterly incomprehensible, lost in the esoteric depths of spiritual theory.
Cultivation in the mountains knows no time. Discussing the Dao is the same.
For seven days and seven nights, the two debated without end.
It wasn’t until the ninth day that their discussion finally concluded.
Leaving the courtyard behind, the pair entered the pavilion, making their way into the secluded study.
“Junior Sister, please,” Li Meng said, cupping his hands in a polite salute.
Zhang Tianhua returned the gesture with equal grace. “Senior Brother, after you.”
They sat opposite each other at the heavy wooden desk.
With a casual flick of his sleeve, Li Meng produced a stack of Talisman Paper and an exquisite Talisman brush.
Sensing the thick aura of Dao charm radiating from the blank paper, a flash of utter astonishment crossed Zhang Tianhua’s eyes.
The raw paper Senior Brother Li uses actually emits a Dao charm rivaling a Divine Firmament Talisman?
Wasn’t this far too opulent? Drawing on this kind of premium paper meant that even a basic First Tier Talisman would possess earth-shattering power.
“Draw a Rain Covering Talisman for me,” Li Meng requested.
The Rain Covering Talisman was a standard landscape Talisman in Daoism, possessing the ability to summon clouds and rain. The higher the Tier, the more torrential the downpour.
Zhang Tianhua extended her slender, jade-like hand. She picked up a sheet of the precious Talisman Paper and smoothed it onto the desk.
Lifting the Talisman brush, she dipped the tip into rich cinnabar ink refined from the blood of spirit beasts.
She held her breath and concentrated her spirit, pushing all distractions from her mind.
Without hesitation, the brush tip descended. Her strokes were slow but carried an inherent power as she painted the complex runes.
At that moment, Zhang Tianhua’s body began to emit a faint, Heavenly and Earthly artistic conception.
She teetered on the edge of entering that coveted state of emptiness and self-forgetfulness, but just as she was about to cross the threshold, it was as if an invisible wall bounced her back to reality.
Li Meng watched his Junior Sister quietly.
The greatest taboo in drawing Talismans was the interruption of one’s artistic conception. Even if he spotted flaws in her technique, he had to wait until the Talisman was complete to correct her.
Approximately an incense stick of time later, Zhang Tianhua lifted her brush.
She parted her lips, exhaling a long breath of turbid air.
A medium-grade Rain Covering Talisman lay before her, completed in one smooth, continuous stroke.
“Senior Brother, how is it?” Zhang Tianhua turned to him, a flash of eager anticipation in her usually calm eyes.
She hadn’t expected to successfully produce a medium-grade Talisman on her very first try in front of him. It was a pleasant surprise.
Deep down, she couldn’t help but feel a little smug.
Li Meng caught the hint of secret pride in his Junior Sister’s eyes. Even though Zhang Tianhua often appeared aloof and proud, there were moments when she was no different from the playful Junior Sister Xia.
Without a word, Li Meng picked up his own Talisman brush. He pulled out another sheet of paper and spread it on the desk.
“Junior Sister, observe the artistic conception.”
As soon as the words left his lips, Li Meng casually pressed his brush to the paper.
The instant the bristles made contact, the atmosphere in the room changed. Li Meng effortlessly slipped into a state of Heavenly Resonance.
It was an artistic conception that was invisible to the eye, yet profoundly palpable to the soul.
Zhang Tianhua’s pupils contracted sharply.
She could feel Senior Brother Li entering a wondrous, transcendent state. He was sitting right in front of her, yet his presence felt ethereal, as if he were no longer there at all.
It was as if he had perfectly merged with the surrounding world. The heaven and earth are me, and I am the heaven and earth.
The Spiritual Qi in the atmosphere surged, converging directly into the study. Just a mere trace of his artistic conception was enough to dictate the flow of the world’s Spiritual Qi.
What a terrifying mastery!
In less than 10 breaths of time, the overwhelming Heavenly and Earthly artistic conception dissipated.
Li Meng lifted his hand and set down the brush.
A Second Tier Divine Firmament Rain Covering Talisman lay on the desk, radiating an aura so potent it felt surreal.
Zhang Tianhua stared blankly at the masterpiece.
The ultimate lifelong pursuit of countless Talisman Masters had just been casually scribbled out by her Senior Brother in mere seconds.
The sheer simplicity of the process was unbelievable. How did he do it?
Zhang Tianhua turned her gaze to Li Meng, her eyes burning with newfound fervor.
“Senior Brother, teach me!”
Faced with his Junior Sister’s fiery gaze, Li Meng chuckled, casually stroking his beard.
“Junior Sister, on the Talisman Path, artistic conception is paramount. This concept is elusive and cannot be forced; it can only be comprehended through one’s own state of mind. Did you gain any insights just now?”
A thoughtful expression washed over Zhang Tianhua’s face. Her delicate brows furrowed as she fell into deep contemplation.
After a long silence, she shook her head in frustration. “It feels as though I grasped something, but I cannot reach the Novice stage!”
Li Meng picked up the Talisman brush again, his tone indifferent. “There is no rush. Continue to observe and comprehend.”
“Senior Brother, wait.”
Zhang Tianhua stopped him with a calm but firm voice.
Li Meng turned his head, looking at her with genuine puzzlement.
Before he could react, Zhang Tianhua stood up. Stepping around the desk, her tall, curvaceous body pressed directly into Li Meng’s embrace. She sat down in his lap, leaning her back firmly against his chest.
With a warm, soft body suddenly filling his arms, Li Meng froze.
Reaching out, Zhang Tianhua gently pried the Talisman brush from her Senior Brother’s fingers.
“Could Senior Brother hold my hand and guide me?” she asked softly. She felt that only by maintaining this intimate physical contact could she truly merge with his artistic conception.
“Junior Sister, what is the meaning of this?” Li Meng asked, his voice catching slightly.
Having such a beautiful woman suddenly sit in his lap—how could he possibly remain unmoved?
Zhang Tianhua tilted her head back, her eyes locking onto his. “Why does Senior Brother ask?”
The two stared at each other in silence. Li Meng maintained a mask of confusion, forcing her to explain.
“Senior Brother once said,” Zhang Tianhua murmured, her voice steady, “that if I called you ‘Senior Brother’, you would cherish me for a lifetime. Or… were those words meant only for Junior Sister Xia?”
Faced with her calm, piercing gaze, Li Meng understood her intent. He gave a sheepish, knowing smile.
“Of course… I meant it for both of my Junior Sisters!”
Satisfied, Zhang Tianhua turned back toward the desk, her expression perfectly composed. “Then Senior Brother need not be too concerned.”
Though her voice was flat, Li Meng could see the tips of her ears turning pink. With her back to him, her cheeks flushed crimson, a rare trace of shyness flashing through her eyes.
Heavens… I can’t believe I actually said something so embarrassing, she thought, her heart racing.
Behind her, Li Meng took a deep breath, inhaling the intoxicating, floral scent of her hair.
Since she had put it that way, what did he have left to worry about?
Li Meng wrapped his left arm tightly around her slender waist.
Zhang Tianhua’s delicate body trembled at the contact. She stiffened for a brief second before melting back into his chest, entirely relaxed.
Reaching forward, Li Meng covered her hand with his right, interlacing their fingers around the brush.
“Junior Sister, Senior Brother is coming,” he whispered, his breath warm against her ear.
A teasing smile tugged at the corner of Li Meng’s mouth. The unique, natural fragrance of her body filled his senses, bringing a flash of intoxication to his eyes.
Why did every woman possess a completely different, yet equally maddening scent? It was a delightful mystery he had no intention of solving.
“Junior Sister, let us begin.”
The blush on Zhang Tianhua’s face receded as she forced her mind to clear. Holding her breath and concentrating her spirit, she gave a slight nod.
“Mhm!”
And so began Zhang Tianhua’s days of intimate cultivation with her Senior Brother.
Li Meng fully committed to mentoring her. The two became as inseparable as shadow and form. For two-thirds of the day, they remained locked away in the study, their bodies pressed close as they explored the Dao of Talismans together.
Nighttime. The darkness deepened over Moon Gaze Peak.
In a certain room on the upper floor of the pavilion.
“Senior Sister, where are you going?”
Li Meng, soaking in a steaming wooden bathtub, opened his eyes. He looked toward Leng Yixue, who had just slipped out of bed and was walking toward the window.
Leng Yixue stood by the window, gazing up at the full moon.
“Junior Brother…” she whispered, her voice carrying a heavy trace of weariness. “There are some things in this world… that I simply cannot comprehend.”
