Chapter 187: Su Zhe Pays a Visit to the Mountain

The wooden door creaked as Li Meng pushed it open and stepped into the room.

For the past year, Senior Sister Leng had not taken a single step off Moon Gaze Peak.

Although she hadn’t voiced a single complaint, Li Meng could sense the growing turbulence in her state of mind.

Glancing at Leng Yixue meditating on the bed, Li Meng strolled over to the medicinal bathtub. He peered inside, putting on a grand show of inspecting Senior Sister Leng’s condition.

“Senior Sister,” he announced casually, “the first stage of Senior Sister’s treatment has concluded. You no longer need to stand vigil over her every waking moment.”

A ripple of emotion crossed Leng Yixue’s normally icy features as she opened her eyes. She uncrossed her legs and slid off the bed, her curvaceous waist swaying hypnotically as she walked toward the window.

“Junior Brother, I must trouble you to care for my master.”

Pausing by the window, Leng Yixue turned her gaze back to the bathtub where Junior Brother Li stood.

Li Meng chuckled, leisurely stroking his beard. “If Senior Sister has urgent matters to attend to, please, be my guest. I will naturally take excellent care of Senior Sister.”

Leng Yixue naturally trusted Junior Brother Li’s character. If she couldn’t trust him, there wasn’t a single soul left in the entire Joyous Union Sect she could rely on.

Without even realizing it, Junior Brother Li had become the anchor she trusted most. She cupped her hands in a solemn salute. “Junior Brother, thank you.”

Li Meng beamed, returning the gesture.

Leng Yixue didn’t waste another word. She turned, riding the wind out of the window before summoning her flying sword and shooting off into the distance.

Staring at the empty window, a thoughtful expression settled over Li Meng’s features. He hadn’t bothered to ask, but her sudden rush was almost certainly tied to her Dao Companion, Senior Brother Zhao.

[+1 Affection] [+5 Sub-profession Experience] [Affection has reached maximum value, +50,000 Sub-profession Experience] [Maximum Affection from opposite gender provides a fixed +100 Sub-profession Experience daily]

The sudden barrage of system prompts snapped Li Meng from his thoughts.

“Huh? Whose Affection just maxed out? Is it Junior Sister Hua?” Li Meng quickly pulled up his relationship list. “Wait… Junior Sister Yuan? She actually reached Foundation Establishment?”

Li Meng’s eyes lit up, a satisfied smirk tugging at his lips as he casually stroked his beard.

Junior Sister Yuan had finally reached Foundation Establishment. Her Affection had finally hit its absolute peak as well. It seemed her thoughts were now perfectly clear and unobstructed.

“Those two should still be cultivating at the main peak. Should I pay them a visit?” he mused.

Despite her poor natural aptitude, the Pills he had lavished upon her guaranteed she would surpass Junior Brother Xuan’s breakthrough.

Xuan Hao was likely still struggling in seclusion. If he were finished, Junior Sister Yuan would have already bounded over to Moon Gaze Peak to see him.

“Might as well prepare a little Foundation Establishment gift for her,” Li Meng decided.

Junior Sister Yuan possessed three spiritual roots: metal, wood, and water. She was the perfect candidate to wield a multi-ability Magical Artifact like the Five Elements Ring.

He still had a pile of rare refining materials sitting in the Storage Bag he extorted from the Yellow Sand King. Creating one Top Grade Magical Artifact was nothing; he had enough materials to forge two or three if he felt like it.

Chuckling to himself, Li Meng turned and cheerfully exited the room.

Several days later, inside his private study.

Sitting cross-legged on a woven rush cushion, Li Meng absentmindedly refined a new Magical Artifact.

His thoughts drifted to two specific people: Junior Sister Shui’er and Junior Sister Zi’er.

Doing the math, nearly three years had passed without a single word from the royal sisters.

He hadn’t bothered actively tracking them, but he knew they weren’t in the Sect. A quick check of the system showed their Luck had plummeted to a mere 1,000 points.

“It seems the mortal dynasty of the State of Zhao has hit some turbulence,” he muttered.

The rise and fall of mortal empires was the natural order. Countless dynasties across the Tianlan Continent constantly fought to divide the continent’s Luck. When an empire began to decline, the royal family’s Luck naturally decayed.

Once the human emperor’s Luck fell below a certain threshold, they lost the protection of imperial Luck, signaling an inevitable dynastic change.

The five major Sects of the State of Zhao had an ironclad agreement: those on the mountain were strictly forbidden from interfering in the development of mortal dynasties.

Even if a mortal kingdom was being devoured by a neighbor, Cultivators could not descend to assist either side.

It was less of a contract and more of a universal truth. Even the demonic Sects of the State of Yue dared not blatantly interfere. They only manipulated things from the shadows, which was precisely why the State of Yue was plagued by endless natural disasters.

“Forget it. None of my business,” Li Meng scoffed.

Even if the State of Zhao’s royal family was being slaughtered, he had zero intention of wading into that muddy water. The Joyous Union Sect was only one of five major powers. He couldn’t act recklessly just because he had the Ancestor’s backing.

One wrong move in the mortal world, and his path of cultivation might come to a sudden, violent end.

“Senior Brother! Senior Brother, please give me a Lightning Attraction Talisman!” Yao Ning’s clear, chirpy voice rang out from outside the study.

Li Meng flicked his sleeve dismissively.

A gleaming, golden Talisman shot out, transforming into a streak of light as it flew through the window.

“Ah! Senior Brother, wait, no—that’s a Divine Firmament Talisman!”

Listening to the apocalyptic boom of thunder outside, followed closely by Yao Ning’s miserable shrieks, a wicked smile tugged at Li Meng’s lips.

He closed his eyes, centered his Qi, and went back to his refining.

On the mountain, cultivation knows no time. The days slipped by imperceptibly.

On a particularly bright afternoon, the sun hung high in the sky. Li Meng lounged lazily on a recliner in the courtyard, soaking in the warm rays.

He cast a lazy glance toward the upper floor of the pavilion. It had been nearly a month, yet Senior Sister Leng still hadn’t returned.

Fortunately, her Luck remained stable, so Li Meng wasn’t overly concerned.

She clearly wasn’t in the Sect, and he had no intention of tracking her down. Everyone had their own path.

Cultivators were far more solitary and aloof than mortals. The path of immortality was filled with solitary travelers; it wasn’t just an empty saying. Walk far enough, and eventually, there would be no companions left by your side. Even new friends would soon fade into the dust of time.

“Su Zhe of Embracing Sword Peak has come to pay a visit to the mountain. I hope to have the honor of meeting Master Iron Ox!”

A clear, resonant voice echoed from the base of the peak. The tone was incredibly gentle and refined, washing over the listener like a soothing spring breeze.

Li Meng narrowed his eyes toward the peak’s barrier. “Su Zhe?”

He looked over at Yao Ning, who was diligently practicing her fist forms in the courtyard. “Junior Sister, do you know of a Senior Su Zhe?”

Yao Ning paused her footwork, throwing a sidelong glance at her Senior Brother. “If Senior Brother doesn’t know him, how could I possibly know?”

He was the one who brought her into the Sect. If he didn’t know the man, she definitely didn’t.

Senior Brother really is too much of a homebody, she thought. There weren’t even that many Golden Core Elders in the Joyous Union Sect, yet he didn’t even recognize their names. Yao Ning clearly remembered seeing the grand portraits of all the Golden Core Elders hanging in the Sect’s main hall.

“Su Zhe…” A thoughtful expression clouded Li Meng’s face. Why did that name sound so familiar?

“Ah. It’s him.” Li Meng’s eyes narrowed into slits as the memory clicked into place.

Su Zhe was that Golden Core Senior who had a complicated, tangled history with Senior Sister Qu.

Li Meng’s lip curled in disdain. He shut his eyes, fully intending to feign sleep and ignore the visitor completely.

Li Meng had long since claimed Senior Sister Qu as his own possession. Why on earth would he give her ex a friendly welcome? Honestly, the fact that Li Meng wasn’t actively plotting to murder Su Zhe was a testament to his immense magnanimity.

Yao Ning stared at her Senior Brother, completely baffled as he just laid his head back and pretended to snore.

The visitor outside was a Golden Core Elder! Leaving a Golden Core Cultivator hanging outside the barrier like a beggar… that wasn’t good, was it?

But seeing the absolute indifference radiating from her Senior Brother, a thought crossed her mind.
