Chapter 194: Junior Sister Arrives
Li Meng picked up the porcelain teapot, casually pouring a fresh cup for Senior Sister Leng.
The two of them sat together, savoring the fragrant tea and discussing the Dao. The atmosphere was tranquil and harmonious, a rare moment of absolute clarity.
Time flew by. Deep in the mountains, cultivation knows no years.
Two years later. Joyous Union Sect. Main Peak.
On a secluded stone platform halfway up the mountain, the air suddenly distorted.
BOOM!
A brilliant, three-colored pillar of Spiritual Power erupted from the platform, piercing straight into the azure sky. A shockwave of dense Spiritual Power swept through the surroundings, rustling the ancient pines.
Inner and Outer Disciples cultivating nearby all snapped their eyes open. Down in the main hall square, thousands of disciples ceased their routines, their gazes drawn to the same magnificent phenomenon.
“Another Outer Disciple has successfully established their Foundation!”
“Sigh… I wonder when I will finally be able to break through to Peak Qi Condensation.”
“Do not lose heart, Senior Brother. With dedication, that day will surely come for us too!”
Back on the stone platform, Hua Biying slowly opened her eyes.
A faint, relieved smile touched the corners of her lips. After over forty years of bitter cultivation, she had finally achieved Foundation Establishment.
Opposite her, Qian Wen also opened his eyes.
Unlike her joy, a trace of bitter melancholy appeared at the corner of his mouth.
“Junior Sister,” he said softly, “congratulations on your Foundation Establishment.”
Hua Biying stood up. Her steps were light as she walked to the edge of the stone platform. A gentle breeze blew past, making her robes flutter and faintly revealing the full, alluring curves of her waist.
She turned, her beautiful eyes resting on Senior Brother Qian.
“Senior Brother, we have journeyed the Path together for over ten years,” she said gently. “This Junior Sister will not forget our friendship.”
With a graceful wave of her slender, jade-like hand, a Storage Bag flew through the air toward him.
Qian Wen caught it, looking up at her in confusion. “Junior Sister, what is the meaning of this?”
He swept his Divine Sense into the bag. Instantly, his eyes widened in sheer astonishment.
Where did she get these top-grade Pills? More shockingly, sitting inside the bag was a pristine, high-grade Foundation Pill.
Hua Biying brushed a loose strand of hair from her forehead. A bright smile graced her features as she turned to look toward Moon Gaze Peak.
“Senior Brother, if there is a Fated Chance in the future, let us cultivate together again. But for now… this Junior Sister has an appointment to keep!”
Her gaze drifted down to the main hall square, watching pairs of disciples bow to each other before heading off to Dual Cultivate.
Senior Brother Li Meng possessed the “waste” Five Spirit Roots; he was completely incapable of Dual Cultivation. Because of this, the Main Peak would now become her primary cultivation site.
Nothing had fundamentally changed. She and Senior Brother Qian had cultivated together on the Main Peak in the past, but their relationship had been that of fixed Dual Cultivation Fellow Daoists. Now, she was moving on to a different path entirely.
Hua Biying rose on the wind, her skirt billowing elegantly as she soared toward the main hall.
“Jun… Junior Sister!”
Qian Wen lowered his hand, his voice catching in his throat. Only then did the crushing reality of the situation dawn on him.
Soaring through the sky like a celestial maiden, Hua Biying looked back over her shoulder one last time.
“Senior Brother, the Fated Chance for Foundation Establishment is right before your eyes. Why wait any longer?”
By the time her gentle voice faded, her graceful figure was already a distant speck against the clouds.
Qian Wen sat dumbly on his meditation cushion, staring at the empty space for a long time.
When did this happen? Confusion swirled in his eyes. Although they hadn’t been completely inseparable, they had spent years together cultivating and executing Sect missions. Qian Wen truly believed he understood her.
He had assumed that once they both reached Foundation Establishment, becoming official Dao Companions would be a natural progression—a matter of water naturally flowing into the channel.
Now, he realized he had been far too presumptuous.
Qian Wen gave a bitter smile and shook his head. “So this is what mortals call ‘the gentleman has intentions, but the lady has none’?”
He gripped the Storage Bag tightly.
“Forget it. The great Dao’s Fated Chance is right before me. How can I miss it!”
He forcefully severed his distracting thoughts. Though his heart ached for what could have been, he was still a cultivator. Such a setback was not enough to shatter his state of mind.
Taking a deep breath, Qian Wen took out the high-grade Foundation Pill and swallowed it. Success or failure, he would stake everything on this attempt.
Joyous Union Sect. Inner Sect territory. Moon Gaze Peak.
Early in the morning, as the mountain awoke with vitality, Li Meng was squatting by the roadside in his Spirit Herb Garden, intensely fiddling with something.
“It… it’s grown bugs?”
Li Meng held a bizarre, crystal-clear insect in the palm of his hand, his face alight with curiosity.
[Xu Insect: An insect that feeds on spirit herbs. While it has the effect of pruning the herbs and making them grow more luxuriantly, its saliva significantly reduces the medicinal potency of the plants.]
“So, is it a pest or a beneficial insect?” he mused.
Li Meng swept his Divine Sense over the garden. Wherever his perception passed, the camouflaged Xu Insects became visible. There were easily a hundred of them scattered about.
“Cultivating spirit herbs truly has its intricacies. I should find an opportunity to ask Junior Brother Xue for some advice.”
He stood up, looking at the pests with indifferent boredom.
With a casual flick of his sleeve, a powerful gust of wind immediately swept through the garden. The Xu Insects were ripped from their stems and blown harmlessly over the edge of the peak. Problem solved.
“Senior Brother! Senior Brother!”
A cheerful, childish voice echoed from the sky.
A tiny figure swooped down, standing atop a flying sword that was just as petite and cute as its owner.
Li Meng turned around with a warm smile, opening his arms.
Like a cannonball of energy, Junior Sister Qi Wei crashed directly into his embrace.
“Senior Brother, Senior Brother! I established my Foundation!”
Qi Wei’s cheeks were flushed with excitement. She tilted her chin up proudly, looking for all the world like a proud little hen. Her small hands rested on his shoulders, her eyes curving into happy crescents.
Li Meng looked down at the girl in his arms, his eyes crinkling. He reached out and gently tapped the tip of her nose.
“Congratulations. Tell me, how many Foundation Pills did you use?”
Qi Wei’s proud expression instantly froze.
She shrank back, lowering her head with a look of extreme, awkward embarrassment. “I… I used 11!”
She used 11 flawless Foundation Pills to successfully break through? A flash of surprise crossed Li Meng’s eyes.
This “Lunar Body” was truly a peculiar constitution. Most cultivators would have instantly exploded from the overwhelming medicinal violence of a single flawless pill. That she survived eleven of them was a miracle, likely thanks to the energy-dispersing nature of the Plain Girl Reincarnation Art.
“That’s not too bad,” Li Meng said smoothly, his tone effortlessly reassuring. “Your Senior Brother used several times more than that!”
“Re… really?” Qi Wei’s eyes lit up immediately. She looked up at his face, which seemed to have grown even more handsome in her eyes.
Li Meng chuckled. Cradling the little Junior Sister in his arms, he carried her toward the courtyard.
“Of course it’s true.”
“Great! Hehe!”
A massive wave of relief washed over Qi Wei’s heart. Although she had wasted a fortune in pills, as long as her omnipotent Senior Brother used more, she wasn’t the absolute worst!
Upon reaching the courtyard, Li Meng set her down.
“Little Junior Sister, the Inner Sect Grand Competition isn’t far off now, is it?” Li Meng asked as he settled into his reclining chair.
He flicked his sleeve, summoning two sets of tea utensils onto the table.
Qi Wei leaned her small body over the armrest of his chair, counting on her little fingers. “St… still seven months!”
“There are only five spots on the expedition team going to Kongming Hall. Do you have the confidence to win one?”
Qi Wei pouted slightly. She trotted over to the tea table and knelt obediently on a meditation cushion.
Holding the teacup carefully with both hands, she took a cautious sip of the scalding tea. She blinked up at him with large, watery eyes.
“Master told me to come find Senior Brother for help!”
Li Meng smiled, taking a slow sip from his own cup.
The methods to rapidly enhance a cultivator’s combat power were strictly limited. Forcibly boosting her strength through forbidden techniques had consequences too severe for a child.
However, her cultivation base was incredibly solid. Because she cultivated the Plain Girl Reincarnation Art, her Spiritual Power reserves—while nowhere near his own—were comparable to a late Foundation Establishment cultivator.
Talismans could also bridge the gap. But the higher the Tier of the Talisman, the greater the consumption of soul power required to activate it.
